What users hate
Two platforms, one favorite child: Android is a stump of iOS, and users read it as a personal insult
iOS users recommend it to Android friends, who install it and get ~20% of the features — the gap doesn't just disappoint, it feels like contempt for a whole platform and poisons even fans who arrived loving it.
the android version is totally barebones and its clear the dev has a favorite child and its apple
not even close to being as good on android as it is on Ios. probably only about 20% of the info the iOs version has.

A visible 'last updated 2023' acts as an abandonment signal that kills trust before first use
The store's last-update date is a public tell: users read it, see they're several major versions behind iOS, and pre-decide that investing in a 'dead' project is pointless.
The app has been stuck in V2 even though iOS is already on V6!
Hasn't been updated since 2023, Devs have shifted focus to ios as that gets updated more frequently such a shame

Humor has a shelf life: repeated lines go stale, and the very attachment the product runs on erodes
What hooks at first (the wit) becomes noise on repeat — users keep it for years for the laughs, then notice the lines never refresh and it 'hasn't been funny in 2-3 years,' and leave.

It's pretty hit and miss with the joke's, especially the unfunny ones about the United States, just lazy.
Very repetitive
The spoken greeting auto-plays on open with no warning — in public it's an instant uninstall trigger
Audio fires loudly on the very first launch, often with an edgy line, with no obvious mute — a user on the bus deletes it within the first minute, never reaching the weather.
I installed while on the bus and it started loudly talking with no obvious way to shut it up, so I immediately deleted it.

Inaccurate forecasts break the core job: personality can't save you when it says clear and it's pouring
When the actual weather is off by 5-10 degrees or says 'sunny' during a downpour, the jokes stop cushioning anything — users lose trust in the product itself, not just the humor.
It is pouring outside and yet the app says its a beautifully clear night sky.
The info is often 5-10 degrees off of what it actually is.

Location detection regularly breaks and falls back to 'New York' — it kills the app as a weather tool outright
With GPS permission granted it shows the wrong city, won't let you search manually, and ignores real location — without the right spot the forecast is useless, and users leave within minutes.
It would only give me the forecast for New York City and I don't live there.
Never knows where I am, just "Current Location", with a wrong forecast.

No notifications strips the app of daily-driver status — it can't be primary without alerts
The Android build can't send notifications — the OS won't even list it in permissions; for runners and anyone who relied on 'rain in 15 min' alerts, that disqualifies it as a primary app even with premium.
You can turn on any notifications for the app, they're blocked.
The strangest thing about this app is that it gives no notifications.

The widget — the main daily touchpoint — is broken and crammed with snark instead of data, losing the everyday user
The widget won't customize, flips Celsius back to Fahrenheit, won't refresh, and gives 90% of its space to a quote instead of the forecast — for people who live by home-screen widgets, that makes the product unusable regardless of the personality.

Shock ads (sexbots, 'hire an assassin') break the brand tone and repel the family audience
The edgy fake ads at the bottom are meant as part of the humor, but many read them literally — sexbot and assassin gags alienate parents and people who just want weather, eroding brand trust.
I was kind of surprised to see a flashing offer for sexbots. Not sure that belongs on a weather app.
I strongly DO NOT find ads asking "Want someone gone? Find hot assassins in your area"
give us an option to block potentially innapropriate ones (one advertising nude robots for hire) to make it better for kids
Political and irreverent lines narrow the audience: weather is neutral, the personality isn't
Lines about US politics and religion land as an imposed stance inside a utility app — users with opposing views or religious sensibilities delete it, even though they still need the weather.
no respect towards religion and that's why I uninstalled it
Might help if Carrot could stick to the weather and leave out their biased opinions about other software, social platforms and politics!

Secret-location quests create a collecting hook and long retention, but when an update disables them with a user 'one secret location away from finishing,' it stings worse than a normal bug — invested progress collapses.

the map glitches in secret locations when switching between "halves" of the world like the divide between Asia and America, it makes some secret location quests almost impossible
It doesn't have achievements, or hearts and many more features on android.
A cleaner redesign stripped data density — a 'snarky thermometer' replaced a working weather app
The UI update looked 'cleaner' but dropped hourly precipitation, wind, and the detail people relied on — the minimalism alienated exactly the power users who valued data, not just jokes.

Used to be the best, most accurate weather app. I relied on hourly precipitation forecast. Since the app update all it shows is hourly temperatures.

A single locked data source (Foreca) with no provider choice — users see the right forecast on the source's site but not in the app
After Dark Sky's shutdown the app is tied to one source with no way to switch; when Foreca is wrong, users have no lever — they notice Foreca's own site shows the correct weather while the app doesn't, reading as a product defect.
It only uses forca which is very inaccurate.
When I click at the bottom where it says Weather by Foreca and click that, the website opens with my real location and correct forecast.
I do wish and hope in the next update that we will be able to choose different weather providers.
Paywalled radar is the one defensible pricing line, but it sits before the product has proved its value
Radar is a feature competitors give away free, so locking it on a non-parity Android build asks for payment before users see value — the wall lands before activation, and churn lands before it too.
It's appalling that they charge for radar when every single other weather app includes not only a radar but more detailed information, all for free
wanted to see a radar or satellite map but they're only available with the Premium paid version. Immediately uninstalled.
No radar even? Is this even a weather app with no radar?
