DiDi reviews

What users love and hate, from real reviews

A cheap Uber alternative for rides and delivery in emerging markets that wins on price and driver pay, but bleeds trust through fares that jump, constant cancellations and support that never answers.

What users love

Cheaper than Uber — the number one reason people stay

The most frequent praise: when the pricing behaves, DiDi is consistently cheaper than Uber and regular taxis, sometimes by half. Riders compare prices before every trip and keep saving, which is why they stick with the app despite its flaws.

Consistently cheaper than Uber. Even when I had a free trial for Uber One, DiDi was still better value.

I love didi prices I compare and I always save up to and including 10$ on every trip

Good service. It's almost always cheaper than Uber.

Drivers get paid more — and riders notice it

A notable share of users value that DiDi pays drivers meaningfully more than Uber and see it as fair. Drivers themselves say they prefer DiDi, and riders connect the friendlier, more courteous service to the better pay.

affordable and better pay for drivers, with amazing discounts

what can I say the drivers get paid twice as much as they do with Uber

As good as Uber and the drivers get paid more.

Simple app, fast pickups and generous newcomer discounts

For those whose trips go smoothly, the appeal is simplicity: ordering is easy, pickups are quick, and first rides come with big discounts and coupons. For many it's the effortless «download the app and you're in a car within minutes» experience.

very easy to use. from downloading the app to getting into a car in minutes. very happy customer.

Easy to use the app and quick confirmation of booking anf the best thing is the discounts

Loving the vouchers and mullets milestone rewards. Getting rides are fast and very convenient.

Weak spots

What users hate

Fare changes after the ride: you agree to one price, get charged another

The single biggest complaint: the price shown at booking turns out noticeably higher when the trip ends — no traffic, no waiting, no route change, no explanation. Support replies with a canned «fare could increase due to reasons» and never clarifies the actual case, so riders read it as outright fraud.

Got quoted $13 for a trip. On completion of the trip I was charged $17.50 and my receipt has a "Fare Adjustment" of $4.50.

unexplained increase of fare. Showed lower fare when booked but after we arrived at our destination charged us about double the fare without explaining anything.

Drivers accept then cancel — finding a car becomes an ordeal

A relentless pain point: a driver grabs the trip, shows up «1 minute away» and cancels, or simply doesn't move and makes you wait until they cancel — often to squeeze a higher fare or chase a better trip. Riders wait 15–30 minutes for a car when rivals take 7.

All drivers constantly cancel requests from customers, which makes it extremely hard to get a ride anywhere.

I get accepted then when the driver is 2-3 mins away and only that far away they'll cancel like what the hell

drivers take ages to accept if they ever do and make you wait until they cancel the trip then you have to book a ride at an increased fare

Money is charged upfront, but refunds drag on for days and weeks

Pay by card and the full fare is debited before anyone even accepts the trip. If the ride is cancelled or falls through, the money is held and the refund takes 10–30 days — while Uber returns it in seconds. For many riders this alone pushes them back to cash.

I don't understand why the full trip fare is charged upfront when paying by credit card.

they will hold your money for refund for up to 30 days and their customers service is terrible

There is no real support — a bot replies with templates, or no one does

When something goes wrong — a double charge, a cancellation, a rude driver — there's no one to reach. The chat closes instantly, complaints and emails go unanswered for weeks, there's no phone line, and a bot fires the same canned replies and closes the case unresolved.

If you try to talk to customer support, immediately they close the chat and online doesn't work at all.

A bot will say you that it's not their problem.

it only provided an automated response and no human support, which did not resolve the issue

Cancellation fees are charged even when the driver is at fault

If the driver no-shows, cancels himself or never arrives, the rider still gets hit with a «late» or cancellation fee and no refund. It feels deliberate — you're pushed into cancelling so they can collect the fee.

they don't give you a refund when they charge you a cancellation fee for the driver refusing to take you or for simply accepting the ride and then not turning up

New scam where a driver says they are at the stop but don't arrive. You keep being charged a fee for being late.

Rude drivers, beat-up cars and a feeling of being unsafe

Complaints about rude, unprofessional drivers, old and dirty cars with no quality control, swapped vehicles and plates, and a driver getting the rider's phone number after a cancellation. Women describe unpleasant incidents, and the company does nothing about the reports.

worst worst worst experience in egypt, expensive, bad cars and rude drivers and wheneve to complain or report nothing happens

vehicles condition is very bad, no review for joining cars, only caring about profit

got harrased by a driver I cancelled 1-2 minutes after ordering as he was moving very slightly towards me. i don't know how he got my number after cancelling

Ads cover the info you need and spill into other apps

After an update ads cover the vehicle details until the car arrives, promo notifications flood in all day with no way to turn them off in settings, and DiDi ads even pop up inside unrelated apps and games.

way too many notifications (interruptions) throughout the day for promotions. no way to turn them off via the settings. uninstalled to keep my sanity.

this ad gets in the way of my gaming app please do no show it.

Maps and routing fail: drivers get lost, routes wander

The in-app map isn't kept current, so drivers get lost and end up in the wrong place. Routes often zig-zag through back streets, adding 5–10 minutes, and users suspect the longer paths are picked on purpose to inflate the fare.

the map on the app is not updated drivers always getting lost 😞

the app just sent the driver on a scenic route through various back streets, adding 5-10 minutes, when a single left turn on a major thoroughfare would have delivered the driver directly to me

purposely uses longer routes to raise prices. Tested multiple times using different trips.

Air conditioning only for an off-the-meter «negotiated» fee

In hot-climate markets riders complain that nearly every driver refuses to turn on the AC until you haggle an extra fee on top of the fare. The advertised «comfort» AC option doesn't actually work in the latest app version.

Most drivers say there’s a “comfortable” option for AC, but it doesn’t exist in the latest app version.
