Discord reviews

What users love and hate, from real reviews

Discord is a messenger with voice channels and community servers for gamers and friends, where people love the way it lets them connect — yet the mobile app chronically lets them down with bugs, a new UI, and paywalled Nitro.

What users love

The go-to place to hang out with friends and communities

The core thing people love is how easily it lets them chat, call and game together, make friends around shared interests, and stay in touch even when people change phone numbers.

very fun, easy to connect with people and overall useful

best for talking with friends and trading in games

Awesome for gaming communities with fun voice channels and bots

You can connect without a phone number, just an email

Many value being able to add and call friends by email rather than a phone number — that's exactly why people picked Discord over call apps like Snapchat.

is a great way to chat without using phone number

because, most of my friends have emails instead of numbers and discord allowed me to text them and call them as long as they friended me and they have discord

it's really nice for when you're trying to talk to your friends when calls on Snapchat don't really work well

Weak spots

What users hate

Voice just drops in calls, especially when sharing screen

The most widespread pain: people can't hear each other in calls, screen-share has no audio, and on mobile you join voice already muted while soundless screen-sharing has become the norm.

Previously, when I shared my screen, my friend could watch it and hear the sound, but now he can only watch without being able to hear the audio from my sharescreen

The thing that has been SUPER annoying is that my streams no longer have audio

when you join voice on mobile, it's muted (it's not a perm setting I'm just muted)

Calls keep dropping and kicking you out of voice

Beyond audio, calls regularly drop, reconnect, or kick you out of group chat on their own — sometimes the call ends by itself even when you're doing nothing.

It keeps kicking me out in a group chat when no one is kicking me out and it keeps kicking me of a call when I join

it keeps kicking me out when I call people

The problem with these apps is that the call ends automatically even when we're not doing anything

The "are you a robot" captcha hard-blocks signup and login

The bot check is its own hell: after pressing confirm the app crashes or shows a blank screen, people can't create an account for a month, and end up deleting the app.

It wont let me Register an account here, it always says Robot or not i have been doing this for a whole month

every few minutes I have to prove im human. . deleted the app.

I'm trying to make an account but every time it asks me a confirm I'm not a robot I'm just met with a blank screen

Logging into your own account is a lottery: password, OTP, MFA, passkey

Login is a constant source of despair: a correct password is rejected, OTPs never arrive, QR login now demands a password anyway, and you can't make a passkey without the very password you forgot.

unable to register with phone number not receiving OTPs

MY PASSWORD IS RIGHT BUT IT SAYS ITS WRONG

What is the point of scanning to log in if you need to input a password regardless?

Images, videos and files stubbornly won't send or download

Sending media on mobile is broken: images take five tries, files won't send even after a reinstall, media only downloads via the browser, and the free limit was cut to 15MB.

WHY CAN'T I SEND IMAGES?! I HAVE TO SEND THEM 5 TIMES BEFORE IT GETS SENT THROUGH

simply cannot download media in any way unless i open the browser

It can't send files on mobile. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, updated the app, cleared the cache

The new minimalist UI killed phone navigation

The recent redesign reads as aesthetics over function: mentions and the friends list are now a hassle to find, the bottom has a fat profile bar instead of buttons, and familiar navigation was dropped for looks.

you cant even check your mentioned or friends list anymore without making it a hassle. This isn't "mobile friendly" it's just poor design choices for the sake of aesthetic rather than function

How far does this app want to push "minimalism" at this point?

the new UI just sucks and I can't stream with audio

Crashes, freezes and lag — in an app nearly a decade old

Basic stability is shaky: the app crashes, freezes, stops opening after updates, and runs heavy even on decent phones — and per users, it goes unfixed for years.

it's crashes again and again please help me

App won't open anymore despite working an hour ago... I've already done a restart, cleared cache

mine constantly freezes which makes chatting with my friends difficult

Notifications don't arrive or pile into one heap

Despite notifications being on and reinstalls done, they simply don't arrive on the phone for years — and when they do, they're all bundled together regardless of server, including DMs.

I have all notifications turned on for the app. I still never receive notifications. It's been almost a decade, how is this still a problem?

I'm not getting notifications anymore on my phone. I have restarted my phone, updated the app, deleted and re downloaded

All notifications are grouped together regardless of server. Including direct messages, so it's incredibly hard to keep track of now.

Nitro is shoved in your face while basic quality sits behind a paywall

Monetization grates: pop-up Nitro offers, an "ads everywhere" feeling, and decent image quality, video size and proper screen-share now locked behind a paid subscription.

shoving nitro down your throat and monetizing absolutely everything

Greedy developers annoying us with popping nitro and gift stuffs, literally forcing us when we are clearly not interested in buying useless things

The only problem is the privileges u have with ot without nitro like being able to send only 10mb vids without nitro and poor screenshare

AI moderation bans without explanation, and support stonewalls

The most painful thread is unfair bans and limits from an AI bot: no reason given, vague "you violated the Terms" with no specifics, appeals denied, and human support is effectively unreachable.

they only kept saying that I violated the Terms of Service without explaining what specific rule I broke

Ai moderation has ruined this app for me. I have been suspended unfairly and the support system does not respond

I appealed and got denied ☠️

Accounts get hijacked, and support won't help recover them

A worrying security theme: people get hacked repeatedly, hackers set their own 2FA, scammers pose as admins and "staff", and support won't help recover the account or even charged-back money.

you get easly hack via discord and its the 7 time its happen to me

the hacker established the 2fa and when I ask the support to revoke it, so I can access my account back they say they can't?

MrBeast scammers are everywhere right now

Mandatory age and ID verification drives people to seek alternatives

The new demand to confirm age and hand an ID to a third-party site triggers outright refusal: people remove Discord, try to move friends to other platforms, and look for a service not hosted on US soil.

Say NO to age verification and ID verification. I refuse and removed discord.

Mandatory age verification has me seeking alternatives; preferably not hosted on US soil.

the app has gone downhill with recent updates and verification requirements. trying to get friends to move platforms
