FaceApp: Perfect Face Editor reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
One of the oldest AI face editors: it delivers a natural-looking retouch people genuinely love, but almost everything is locked behind a pricey annual subscription — hence the core tension between "best in its class" and "you can't do anything for free."
What users love
Natural retouch with no "AI look" — that's what people love
The top compliment: it cleans up skin, wrinkles and scars while keeping the face recognizable and the expression intact. It's the perfect light touch-up for a social-media photo.
Not overdone.. but natural looking touch up for photos
It makes beautiful retouch without changing face expression
This app clears my face and I don't look like an image created with Ai. It's still the same me.
Simple and easy — almost zero learning curve
Consistently praised for simplicity: a light, intuitive, fast editor where even a beginner gets a clean result right away. Many stick with it for years precisely because it's easy.
extremely convenient. Easy to manipulate with utmost results that's clean, clear and plane
it is so easy to use and has such good features
it's easy to edit and it has a good output
Sticky reputation: used for 5-6 years and more
A strong loyalty signal: many reviews come from people who've kept the app for 5-6 years, since 2020 and earlier. One of the earliest AI editors, and it still holds up.
One of the earliest AI apps. Still rocks!
I used this app for almost 6years and I love it
I've been using this WAYYY back then I think 2020 maybe
Best in class: "tried hundreds — nothing compares"
An enthusiastic core: those who like it rank it above every competitor — the only app they'll pay for, the gold standard, "10 out of 10."
I've tried HUNDREDS of editing apps and NOTHING compares to this app! it's A complete 10 out 10
The app itself is in my opinion the best you can find in this sector.
one of my favorite photo editor of all time
What users hate
The free version is effectively unusable — pay or do nothing
Users complain that the free tier leaves just one or two options, and even those need Pro to actually apply. Many uninstall without managing to edit a single photo.
poor application even free filter also required pro version
couldn't even use the app because they want money
only one or two options in the free version.
Paid for Pro — yet the app still demands you buy Pro
A recurring subscription bug: people paid for Pro, but the app keeps treating them as free — features don't unlock and restoring the purchase fails.
I have paid for the pro in the face app and it's telling me I need to purchase the pro when I put a picture in to make it better.
I have paid for a subscription but it is always coming out that I don't have a pro which I do
i invest my money but no subscription unlock
Stripped features from people who already pay
Long-time subscribers are furious: updates removed the very sections they paid for (video, face swap, skin filters, smiles, hair colors). It feels like paying more and getting less.
The recent update has REMOVED so many features!!! I'm really angry about this! Impressions, skin filters, smiles, hair colors, all the things I use often, gone!!!
Bought this app years ago with the lifetime subscription for the face swap feature and discovered today that they removed it permanently
with the removal of video editing, this app became absolutely useless
Pricing feels predatory: annual-only, no lifetime
Users find the price inflated and "greedy": no one-time purchase, only a costly yearly plan that adds up to a lot over a few years.
Very expensive. Very greedy . you must subscribe annually instead of lifetime subscriptions which will take you a lot of money
they want $40 a year
I pay $50AUD for this, that's a lot of money on top of lifes increasing subscription services
Edit limit: an "angry cat" stops even paying users
Even with Pro the app hits an edit cap: after a few photos it blocks you ("too many edits") or crashes, and you can't continue.
after paying I was able to edit 3 pics before it no longer well let me edit anything anymore
after a few editing always got angry cat for stop using or reduce the edit activity
very useful app but has a limit even for premium and after that it crashes
Ads promise free styles that don't actually exist
People feel misled by the ads: they were promised 20 free hairstyles, but in reality any style requires payment — which they read as false advertising.
the ad I saw said that I'd get 20 free hair styles, and that it's NOT FREE!
it said that i could get several hairstyles shown for free. It is NOT FREE
Wouldn't let me have the free trial? Wasted my time and data installing!
Generative AI mangles photos: artifacts instead of clean filters
Some users want the old non-generative filters: the new AI introduces ugly artifacts — removing clothes, warping features, arms sticking out. For them it's a downgrade, not an upgrade.
introduces horrible artifacts like removing clothes and arms sticking out or warped features. I wanted the old non-generative AI filters
I was looking for a natural age progression from a photo of a deceased family member but it doesn't have that capability
has very poor selection of hairstyles and doesn't work half the time
