Grubhub reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
A US food-delivery aggregator whose real pain isn't the interface but a collapsed operation: too few drivers, ETAs that stretch into hours, and a support team turned into a wall of AI bots that deny refunds.
What users love
For happy users, the Prime pairing saves it: free delivery and low fees
Satisfied users uniformly praise the Amazon Prime pairing: delivery drops to $0 even where the fee was $6.99, and the yearly membership genuinely saves money. For this group Grubhub comes out cheaper than DoorDash.
when you pair your Amazon prime account, grubhub is the best! no delivery fees. even if a place has a $6.99 delivery fee with grub hub prime it's $0.
cheaper delivery than door dash and doesn't add a lot when you have Prime.
They have better deals than Doordash, plus the discount from having Prime is stellar.
When it works — fast, easy, and with friendly drivers
For the loyal slice of the audience — many homebound or disabled — the experience is the opposite: hot food, polite drivers, on-time or early delivery. For them the app is simple, dependable, and a years-long lifeline.
always hot food and very polite drivers.
They have always arrived on time or early 😁😁
I am homebound right now. and GrubHub is the best
Some users praise support and fewer mistakes versus DoorDash
A minority reports the opposite support experience: issues resolved fast and kindly, refunds issued without a fight when something goes wrong. Head-to-head against DoorDash it favors Grubhub — fewer mistakes, drinks arriving without spills.
If I have ANY issues with the restaurants or delivery, it gets resolved with customer service ASAP!! They are always courteous, friendly and kind!
I've used both Doordash and Grubhub and with Grubhub there are far less mistakes and the sodas from Sonic arrive with NO spillage.
usually dependable. if any errors, refund is issued after reporting
What users hate
Delivery turns into an hour-plus wait instead of the promised 30 minutes
The stated 30-40 minute window routinely stretches to an hour and a half or two: the app shows an optimistic ETA, then silently pushes it back after you've ordered. For food at home that means a cold plate by the time it lands.
Takes 2 hours to get an order when it says delivery time 30-40 minutes..EVERYTIME
1.5 hours for something that originally said would be 30 minutes.
Why does it CONSISTENTLY take nearly 2 hours to get a fast food burger delivered to my home during non rush hour traffic?
Support answers only with AI bots that deny refunds
Reaching a human is nearly impossible: it's all AI that copy-pastes the same replies and loops the conversation. Even after getting a person, users are told a refund «isn't eligible», and each email is handled by a different agent from scratch.
their customer service team apparently have all been laid off in place of AI. AI that is useless and not helpful.
all Ai until you finally get to speak to someone and half the time it's all prompts they copy and paste, I get transferred between people only to be copy and pasted the same thing
Only AI support. You will not escape. They're awful.
Orders get accepted, then cancelled — often after the food is already made
Confirmed orders get cancelled for lack of drivers, sometimes 15 minutes before delivery, with the blame shifted to the restaurant. Yet you can't cancel yourself: once accepted the button locks, leaving you on hold for an hour.
Constantly cancels confirmed orders for lack of drivers. Happened several times.
get cancelled 15 minutes before they are supposed to be delivered and Grubhub claiming the restaurant cancelled the order
cant cancle orders. i can place an order with a restaurant with 45 min before closing. no dashers to retrieve order. restaurant closes and i cant cancle order because its been accepted.
After «too many» complaints they block your ability to request refunds
If a user reports problems «too often», the account gets flagged and permanently loses the right to a refund — even when the restaurant or driver is at fault. The customer is punished for others' mistakes and forced to pay for food never received.
if you ask for refunds when you logically don't get what you order, they ban you from ever being able to get refunds. the customer is penalized for the merchant's inability to fulfill their orders correctly.
they flagged my account for multiple compensations. so apparently its the customers fault that restaurants/drivers arent doing their job correctly.
if they deem you have reported "too many" delivery issues (missing/wrong items, etc.) they block you from submitting more refund requests for errant orders. Upshot, you'll be paying for food you never get.
Instead of a real refund they push a $5 credit that expires in 30 days
When an order is botched or undelivered, the company offers a $5 credit instead of cash — one that expires in 30 days and forces you back into the app. For a late $50 order, the token feels like mockery, not compensation.
just $5 credits that expire within 30 days that force you to use the app again for delivery
we get a $5 refund for an order that's over $50 and cold
they offered me a $5 credit the order that I got that was somebody else's has stuff on there I could not eat that I'm allergic to
Drivers steal food and confirm delivery with fake photos
A frequent complaint: the driver keeps the food and «confirms» delivery with a photo of a random sign or a blacked-out frame. Grubhub then refuses a refund, leaving the customer with neither food nor money.
driver never arrived. took a picture of a random street sign and said my order was delivered.
delivery drivers steal food and submit blacked out photos to "prove delivery" repeatedly
They don't care if drivers lie and steal your food
The «contactless» PIN must be handed over in person — and it's used to steal food
In the name of security the app demands you give the driver a PIN in person, turning contactless delivery into contact delivery. Worse: drivers beg for the PIN by text to «close» the order and drive off with the food, while support blames the customer.
I don't like how they make you provide a PIN number to the driver upon arrival, if they think you might not be trustworthy because of a couple of mistakes that are made.
A driver texted my gf for her pin to drop off the food as she was in the shower. Driver then drove off with our food.
I have had to submit a two digit number every time I've ordered for over the last month or else the driver will sit in my driveway and not deliver the food.
The final price jumps at checkout: markups and a fan of hidden fees
In-app prices run higher than the restaurant's own, then service fee, delivery and tip pile on — the total can jump $20 after you hit checkout. Even with the paid Plus membership the fees stay predatory.
they charge more in the app then the restaurant does (before fees and delivery) (should be illegal)
Watching my final price jump up $20 after I hit the checkout button is absolutely predatory.
37% increased prices from standard store, times 18% service fee, plus $4 delivery fee, plus tip = $13 for a $4 taco.
Promo codes and «discounts» don't apply at checkout
Promised new-user discounts and 30-35% coupons routinely «expire» or simply fail to apply in either the app or the website. It works as bait to make you download the app, but the actual savings never materialize.
I tried the new user promo for $10 off an order or +$15 and it never applied to my account.
received message saying that I would get 35% off at checkout. discount was not honored
Offered me a discount code and then when I went to checkout told me I couldnt use it in the app.
The app breaks at payment: errors with no explanation and broken buttons
At checkout vague errors like «This field is required» and «Something went wrong» appear without saying what to fix; Google Pay fails, +/- buttons don't work, and you can't add a card. Some users only get through by switching to the website.
Can't checkout when using Google Pay. I get a "This field is required" error with no mention of which field
"Error with payment card", and "Error removing item from cart" basically renders the whole app unusable.
Can't customize an item because your buttons are broken. had to switch to the site. why are your literal +/- buttons broken
Orders arrive incomplete or mixed up, and no one checks them
Drinks go missing, the wrong order shows up, items get swapped — and refunds cover only the missing part, even when the rest is inedible without it. No one on Grubhub's side checks the order before handoff.
No one checks the orders. GrubHub will refund you money for missing items but the whole point of ordering means we want the items that are missing.
An order of beverages was delivered incorrectly and Grubhub only refunded the mistaken parts even though the mistakes made all of the drinks undrinkable.
they left off 2 large LEMONADES
Linking Amazon Prime doesn't deliver the promised free delivery or Grubhub+
The Prime link is sold as free delivery, but in practice the Amazon sign-in glitches, Grubhub+ never activates, and unlinking is a dark-pattern nightmare. The same fees you'd pay without Prime stay in place.
Do not install or link to your Amazon Prime. It's a dark pattern nightmare. It took multiple hours to cancel
signed in using Amazon prime account but still didn't get grubhub+
I'm not supposed to pay delivery fees and I'm supposed to have a discounted service fee as an amazon prime member.
