Healthy Minds Program by Humin reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
A free, science-grounded meditation app with a structured «learn + practice» course: users adore that it's all given away with no ads, yet mandatory sign-up and login failures turn some people away at the door.
What users love
Completely free and ad-free is the single argument almost every review makes
People can't believe content this good is given away for free: no ads, no locked-off content, just a discreet nudge to donate. For many that's the deciding argument against paid competitors.
good learnings, good, simple meditations, and no ads
Many platforms asks money to train your mind but healthy minds give it for free
Wonderful free app with no ads and no locked off content
A structured «lesson → practice» path, not a bottomless audio library
The key differentiator isn't a heaped-up library but a built-out course: a short learning block explaining the «why», then practice right away. You start with Foundations and walk the path step by step.
Rather than being a random vast library of Meditations, This is a carefully structured meditation program, built on science studies
I like the way there are learning sessions and practising sessions
I am following the pathway starting with Foundations and learning what, why, and how meditation and mindfulness help me
The science backing and named researchers build trust
Users specifically value that the methods are research-backed, with a mini «learn» block between meditations referencing the science — it gives them the «why», not just «breathe».
Not-for-profit app, grounded in science/research that provides extraordinary, clear instruction on how to flourish
This is where there is often references to scientific research in the field giving me the 'why'
Great insights, great speaker options. This app has really made a difference for me. I love that its methods are backed by research
Short, bite-sized sessions fit into a busy day
Content is broken into small bites, and many meditations let you pick the length (5–30 min), so practice fits between things — sitting, on the go, commuting.
Easily manageable short sessions. Rich in content, insight, scientific backing
you can choose the length for some of them which is helpful when you have a busy schedule
Bite sized pieces of Wisdom easily accessed and practiced
Active meditation — teaches practicing while doing tasks, not just sitting still
A standout feature: «active meditation» teaches mindfulness during simple tasks and even in public, lowering the barrier for those who struggle to just sit in silence.
it literally has an active meditation that teaches you to meditate while doing simple tasks, even in public
Love that active meditation is intro'd so soon too!
though they have the option of active meditation if that's what you're into
Professionals (therapists, psychiatrists, doctors) recommend it to their clients
A strong trust signal: licensed therapists, psychiatrists and GPs say they share the app with clients; several were recommended it by their own therapist or doctor.
one of my favorite mental/emotional wellness apps. I'm also a licensed therapist and have shared it with many clients
P.S - I am a psychiatrist. it made my mornings so much easier
This was one of the apps recommended to me by my GP and one I keep returning to
Voice choice and soft, soothing instructors
The ability to pick a narrator to suit you, plus Cortland Dahl's soft voice, is named as a distinct plus — part of what makes the practice comfortable.
I love the soft, soothing voice of Cort
I love the soothing voice of Dr Dahl, and learning meditation from him has really changed my life
I also enjoy being able to pick between different voices/people speaking
What users hate
The claimed privacy clashes with the actual data policy
Some users read the privacy policy and were alarmed: the app asks for a lot of personal data, can share it with your school or workplace, and use it for marketing. For them it's a «hard pass».
They can ask for a lot of personally identifiable info and can share it with your school or workplace. They also state they can use your info for marketing purposes
i want something private and I don't want to give out my information to another data broker pretending to be an app
Terms and Conditions force arbitration in the event you wish to sue them
Mandatory sign-up and broken login codes cut people off at the door
Several people never got in: after creating an account it won't log them in, and the six-digit confirmation code never reaches their email. Others are put off by the very demand to make yet another account for a free app — «instant uninstall».
can't get logged in after creating an account. frustrating.
I tried many times to sign in. But 6 digit code was not sent to my email I'd.
Would like to try without creating yet another account... instant uninstall
Why does a meditation app need my location — a recurring question even from fans
Even five-star users trip over the location request when starting a session: it's unclear why an app for listening to audio needs to know where you are, and they ask for it to be removed.
App is good but why does a meditation app need to know our location.
can you please remove the permission of asking my location when I try to start my session ?
Pushy upsells and a lockout once the free days run out
Against the «it's all free» chorus, some report having to dismiss a batch of upsells every time, and being asked to pay for the «better parts» after a few days — confusing against the overall picture.
Want to use the app? Dismis a bunch of upsales first. Every time
use for 6 days then need to pay or if you want better parts pay now.
The vanished monthly check-in breaks the sense of progress
The monthly report-style check-in showing progress across areas of wellbeing is a favorite part for many, tying the content together. When it stopped appearing, people lost their anchor and ask for it back.
am seriously bummed that the monthly report check-in doesn't pop-up anymore. It was my favorite part
The monthly(?) check in questionnaire is great for seeing progress - or decrease sometimes - in how your mental health is in four different areas
Stalls and a lockout that forces a reinstall
A good program occasionally hits technical walls: the app stalls and won't load, and for some it eventually «locks» so they have to uninstall and reinstall every time.
Great program but the app often stalls and won't load.
every time I want to us is locked and I have to uninstall and install again
Complaints about speech pace and repetitive/wordy meditations
Minor but real rough edges: some find the talking too fast and want speed control, some find the meditations wordy, and the «connection» section repetitive.
my only wish is that I could slow down the pace of the talking, it's a bit fast for me. I would enjoy 0.8x speed!
However the meditations themselves seem sometimes repetitive especially in the "connection" section
the meditations are a bit too wordy for me but there's also a quiet practice session you can use
