Hopper reviews

What users love and hate, from real reviews

A travel app for finding and booking cheap flights, hotels and car rentals with price prediction — fans adore the price tracker and the insurance refunds, while many are burned by support and the gap between the promised price and what they actually pay at the desk.

What users love

The price tracker and "when to buy" alerts — what people love it for

Fans track flights for years via Flight Watch: the app tells you whether a price will drop or rise and nails the moment to buy — and it genuinely saves money.

My go-to app for flights every flight. Flight Watch is a game changer. The notifications are on point.

Its best feature is letting you know when the best time to buy your flight is. That really helps save money.

I appreciate the tips that seem to be based on history and trends. The other app I use is all buy-buy-buy with no valid predictions.

Disruption insurance actually pays out — sometimes even without buying it

When a flight is delayed or cancelled, Hopper monitors it and refunds you — sometimes in full and even for people who never bought the insurance; for many that's the genuine WOW moment.

Finally flying home, HOPPER emailed me that they were fully refunding me. I sang their praises all over social media.

We booked with Spirit through Hopper. When going went South, we were completely reimbursed, despite not buying the insurance. Five stars!

We purchased premium disruption insurance which we ended up needing due to flight cancelations. The disruption service was easy to access and promptly recieved a refund for our flights.

Easy interface and all-in-one breadth

Many praise the intuitive, clear flow: flights, hotels, cars and homes in one place, with handy search and filters — especially loved by first-time travelers and people booking on the go.

Super easy to use, just click what you need (flights, cars, hotels, homes) and select the dates you need. It searches EVERYWHERE on one app.

I felt supported and confident booking my first solo flights.

I like the flow of the app and it is very intuitive and easy to use.

Weak spots

What users hate

Support ping-pongs you to the airline or hotel — no one owns the booking

When something goes wrong, Hopper support just repeats "not possible", tells you to call the airline or hotel, and they bounce you back to Hopper — you spend hours going in circles with no resolution.

They told me changes and cancellations have to be done through the airline, but the airline app didn't even show my booking number.

The agents are nasty and just keep saying "not possible"when you request help.

Both of them are saying the other has to do it.

"All taxes and fees included" — then you pay extra at check-in

The app explicitly promises all fees are included in the final price, yet at the front desk you get hit with resort fees, deposits and surcharges of tens to hundreds of dollars that were nowhere to be seen at checkout.

they sneak in fine print that states additional charges like resort fees will be collected when checking it. This is not the definition of all fees included.

App CLEARLY says "all prices, taxes, and fees are included in final price."

They did NOT pay all the fees! I had to pay $150 for the deposit.

Paid cancellation/insurance doesn't deliver: the credit dies or can't be used

People pay extra for "cancel for any reason" and insurance, then lose the money on cancellation: the credit is locked to the same flight or route where seats are "never available", or the refund drags on for weeks and months.

I paid for the option to change for any reason, then had to fight to actually get it changed when we needed to push our return flight back.

I had to cancel a trip I purchased insurance for. Only to find out I cant use the credit unless I book the same route.

you'll be told no flight available no matter what date you try there will never be an available flight in order to claim your credit from them..

Hotels turn out filthy and nothing like the photos

Arriving on their booking, people land in roach-infested, smelly, run-down rooms that don't match the app's pictures — and Hopper does the bare minimum and refuses refunds for the filth.

they have blood stains on the curtains left old food in the refrigerator the appliances was beat up it smelled like somebody died

Homeless people living in the stairwell outside my room, horrible smell, dirty, roach infested.

took all nite to get me into a place that was roach infested.

Bookings collapse: hotel closed, renamed, or never heard of Hopper

The worst-case scenario is arriving to find there's no booking: the hotel doesn't honor Hopper reservations, has been closed for renovation for two years, or simply changed names — and you're left with nowhere to sleep.

the hotel was overbooked. Hotel staff said they reached out to hopper to cancel our reservation a month ago but hopper never contacted me or canceled the reservation.

the place was under renovation and has been closed for 2 years.

the hotel told me hopper wasn't one of their booking company's. I didnt get a room that night

The "deals" cost more than the hotel's own site or other apps

Users compare against Google Flights, Expedia and the hotels' own sites and routinely find the same rooms and flights 20–30% cheaper — Hopper's margin is baked in.

All flight prices (domestic & international) are inflated that includes Hopper's margin. Checked this against Google Flights and ClearTrip.

same hotels 20-30 dollars cheaper on Expedia

Hopper wants $467 for the same room that I can get on the hotel's website (with taxes and fees included) for just $199.80

The date or number of nights gets scrambled at booking

Somewhere at the payment step the booking gets swapped: a mid-July date becomes "tonight", two paid nights turn into one, and changing or cancelling it is nearly impossible.

At some point the date got scrambled or it just decided the room I wanted was available tonight, not July, or something.

i paid fir a room for 2 nights. it was supposed to have a discount. when i got to the hotel, hopper only booked it for one night

I had reservations for 2 nights that I paid for! i only got 1 night!

Pay-walled: the price tracker is now locked behind Pro

The signature feature — price watching and predictions — moved behind a paid Pro subscription; the entry flow forces you to pick three destinations you don't want, and the UI is buried in upsells and microtransactions.

Everything is locked behind the pro feature. UI is dogsh1t. Super hard to navigate without them throwing microtransactions and subscriptions at you.

they created a paywall for the very feature that was their shtick...watching deals on flights.

I have to pick three different destinations of places that I don't want to go just to get into the app

Double charges, payment bugs and absurd card authorizations

At checkout the app throws connectivity errors but charges you anyway — sometimes twice; one user got hit with 100 authorizations and an attempt to charge $43,676 for a $436 booking.

I tried booking through the app and received errors of connectivity, but I was still charged and it did not show up in the app. I was charged twice.

they tried authorizing my card a total of 100 times. My bank said they'd never seen a company do that. They tried charging me 43,676 dollars

They charge your card months after the trip was taken.

From India there's no way to reach support — just a bot

For users in India the only channel is a call to an international US number (costly and impractical), with no email and no live chat — just a useless AI assistant.

There is no way to contact customer support if booking from India, no email, chat option is available, only generic AI stupid assistant. Calling US number is not feasible and extremely costly

it requests me to dial in to an international tool free number. Being from India, I cannot make that call.

Cherry on top, NO support email ID to escalate the issue.

Spammy notifications and pushy suggestions annoy users

The notification stream can't be sorted: genuine price-drop alerts drown in spam about "cool places you said you liked", and the pushes just open the app without showing the date or the price.

am uninstalling because of the number of spammy notifications and the inability to sort between them and price drops

every hour there is a notification, every click in app gives you popup to purchase pro version.

the notification only opens the app, and it doesn't even show what date the price it showed was for so you just have to guess. Pointless and annoying feature

Price Freeze and paid seat/leg-room add-ons don't deliver

The paid "Price Freeze" doesn't guarantee the price and is non-refundable, and paying extra for a seat or leg room simply doesn't work — Hopper says it doesn't handle seating.

The whole "Price Freeze Tool," ABSOLUTE SCAM! They basically pocket your $, and your price isn't guaranteed.

I paid extra for leg room and did not get it. Zero help because they don't handle seating .... Don't pay extra for better seating through here.

scams for prizes freeze to get their deals back which is non refundable
