Lensa AI: Photo Editor reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
An AI photo editor and avatar generator that went viral in 2022, now seen by long-time fans as a degraded paywalled subscription with stripped-down features.
What users love
Those who stay for the editor praise its simplicity and natural look
Despite the negativity, many love Lensa as a simple, intuitive photo editor: natural clean results, an easy interface, good color grading and clean foreground/background separation.
Luv it! Beautiful, clear, natural looking pics.
I love that this app is straightforward and easy to use. it has a great selection of tools to edit your photos as you desire.
it's the best for people who like quality and color grade
On good days the AI results are stunning — but it's a gamble
When generation works, results delight: a "polished me", accuracy that's "flawless", beautiful realistic photos for avatars and work — users return year after year for this.
It's still 1st day using & I have aprox 10 beautiful photos that look like a polished me.
It creates awesome results!!!! but it's a gamble too. Some of them just kinda make you look like a different person all together. but when you get good photo, the accuracy is flawless.
I have received some amazing images with this app. I have also received images that look nothing like the subject. It's all silly fun that sometimes creates an image that works for Avatars or business or PR purposes.
What users hate
"It used to be better": the core complaint is post-redesign degradation
The single most common theme: years-loyal users say every update made the app worse — styles removed, tools removed, everything turned into "basically a Google photo editor".
Every change they have made to this app has made it worse and worse. They just removed the art style feature and its basically like a Google photo editor now.
used to be a great and fun app... now its trash and they not even trying to make it better
used to be so much better. seasonal fun. more options. now it seems to be stuck with the same categories which are boring.
Hard paywall: you can't try anything without paying
The app demands a subscription and payment details before letting you do anything — not even one free image or the promised trial is accessible.
the app doesn't let you do anything before you are not making a subscription, not even the 7 days trial allows me as I'm being charged lol.
need to pay.. nothing free even you cant make one image for free
can't even test without a credit card. junk.
Charges during a "free" trial — users cry scam
People sign up for a free trial through official links and are immediately charged for a full annual subscription they never authorized.
I signed up for a 7day free trial using the links provided and got charged NZ$74. I didnt authorize a 1 year subscription to be charged to my visa and you have taken it anyway. This is NOT legal.
this app is a scam, even checking the 3 days free trial, I still got charged on my credit card for a one year subscription
I SUBSCRIBED FOR A FREE TRIAL BUT WAS CHARGED IMMEDIATELY. I DEMAND A REFUND RIGHT AWAY.
Subscription plus buying images: double monetization of one task
Even with a yearly subscription you must separately buy AI image packs at $5.99–$7.99, which users call an endless money grab.
I have purchased the yearly subscription, which was around $40.00, I believe. On top of that, you have to purchase AI images every time you use it. They usually cost between $5.99 and $7.99.
in addition to the annual subscription, you also have to purchase credits to keep generating pictures.
the prices doubled for half the number of pictures. When it first came out, I got 200 pictures
Avatars got worse: the face "isn't me", ages you, looks ugly
Magic Avatars once stylized faces beautifully; now they age you 20 years, give a bulbous nose, paste your face on crookedly and barely resemble you.
Ages me 20 years in every one, gives me a bulbous nose and bung eye. Just looks gross, like they just weirdly copy and pasted my face, then hit it with the ugly stick.
attempts to doctor my face into someone else then puts a bad wig on it. I want my money back.
Now, the AI generates garbage. None of the avatars are worth using because they all look static
Removed pack purchases and beloved styles, forced "Fast Avatar"
The option to buy a pack of 200 high-quality images and beloved styles (Cyberpunk, Steampunk, Vampire) is gone, replaced by a forced "Fast Avatar" giving 4 images at much lower quality.
There used to be fun styles like Cyberpunk, Vampire, Desert, Magic School, Steampunk, Holidays. Now they're pushing a new Fast Avatar that I don't like. They're not good and you only get 4 per look.
They've removed about half of the magic avatars - all of the good and fun ones. There's also no longer an option to buy packs.
This new fast avatar has really ruined the whole point of using this anymore and I will be uninstalling.
Watermark on premium results
Even on a paid plan the Lensa logo stays on generated images, which users find absurd for something they paid for.
Magic Avatars with watermarks and low resolution on a premium plan are a joke. They're not suitable for any use.
there's a watermark even though you pay for premium
now they're logo is plastered on the product you paid for...
Forced sign-up and personal-data collection drive people away
The app demands email and personal details before any first action, plus nags with account-deletion threats — enough for some users to uninstall on the spot.
they ask for a few simple personal details before letting you do anything (which was already annoying at that point) THEN, after all that... they ask for you to log in.
Why you need my personal email to use this app? No more stupid advertising and junk mails. Uninstall.
it's keeps reminding me to sign in and use lensa or my account will be deleted I'm signed in and have used it
Crashes at login, hangs, features greyed out on newer devices
For many the app hangs at startup, crashes on login attempts, or shows greyed-out unavailable icons — especially on newer phones like the S25+ and Note 13 Pro.
Tried opening for the first time and it’s already stuck. Hanging nonstop on the very first screen. Just staring at "Lensa isn’t responding" again and again.
Galaxy S25+. This app is great on my Galaxy S23 Ultra. But when it comes to the S25+, only "one" feature works. Everything else is grayed out.
Not working in my note 13 pro 5g, closes after with try to login via any method
Loss of manual tools: the strength was control, not filters
Power users miss precise manual controls (grain, vignette, brushes) — now there are only sliders and one-touch filters with no control over the result.
I want tools not artificial intelligence, this app use to have tools. now they are gone.
put back fine grains controls instead of stupid filters. Or add them but let the user in control of things like vignette
I don't know why Lensa has changed the whole app to like a one-touch style editing app. I hate this app now. The lack of control and features
