Lyft reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
A US ride-hailing service loved for warm, careful drivers but increasingly slammed for unpredictable pricing, fake wait times, and helpless support — the constant Uber comparison decides everything here.
What users love
Warm, caring drivers are the reason people keep coming back
Despite everything, drivers get near-glowing praise: polite, careful, clean cars, helpful to elderly and wheelchair riders, safe driving, and often remembered by name.
Lyft has been amazing! The drivers are friendly, respectful, and make every trip feel safe and comfortable.
he went above and beyond and carried my heavy basket. He was very friendly.. great conversation.. great driver.
I use a wheelchair and the drivers have been great with it.
When you catch a low price — cheap, fast, and reliable
A chunk of users call Lyft their daily car-free transport: fast pickups, sometimes cheaper than Uber, and Lyft Pink plus price lock genuinely save money.
I use Lyft every single day, I absolutely love this app. it's convenient and fast pick ups!!
I Love Lyft, so easy and dependable and the prices are better than Uber 95% of the time. Love em!!!
the price lock is a necessity for me so I'm very appreciative of that little promo they have
What users hate
Price jumps within minutes and is almost always higher than Uber
The defining pain: the same trip is quoted at $20 then $100, the price changes the instant you hit accept, and users immediately compare with Uber, where the same miles cost half as much.
price changes in 4 minutes from $15 to $16 for the same ride and route
always 3× - 4× more than uber, Uber will be $30 and lift will be $80 - $100
Quoted $40 for a 12 mile ride. 10 minutes later it goes up to $65. Uber quoting $20 for same ride
Wait times are lied about, driver swapped right before pickup
Promised "3 minutes," the driver doesn't move or gets swapped for a farther one — sometimes repeatedly — and you wait 15–25 minutes instead of what was quoted.
the app would give me a driver it would be 4 mins away then will switch to further driver, not once but MORE than serval times
will lie about wait time. "8 min" wait to have you wait 15m+
I call a lyft, it says your driver is 3 minutes away and 3 minutes later it still says your driver is 3 minutes away
Support effectively doesn't exist — just a bot and empty apologies
You can't reach a human, the chat replies "so sorry to hear that" then stops answering; in real crises — lost item, a crash, a safety threat — Lyft washes its hands.
Good luck trying to phone a human.
if you have a problem your only option is to message in a chat and its a lot of "im so sorry to hear that,"
their driver backed into my car. he didnt speak English. his wife yelled at me over the phone. I have 3 witnesses. lyft refuses to cover the damage.
Double charges and money held after the ride
Charged twice for one ride, authorization holds kept for 5–7 days, surprise fees and a wrong car class added — and getting the money back is nearly impossible.
everyone dont use app they are double charging people, was double charge for 1 ride this happen to me a few times.
they take unauthorized holds from your bank account for a ride that you took plus the money for the ride
I used Wait & Save for a $19.00 ride, but was overcharged by $8.00. The receipt lists completely incorrect pickup and drop-off locations, and shows an XL ride size that I never select.
GPS and address lookup miss the door
The map feeds drivers outdated routes and a wrong pin, the car almost never stops at the right house, and you can't move the pickup point in the app.
It's abilities to find actual address locations suck. I almost never get them to stop in front of my house. 5% success rate, at best.
the Lyft GPS is garbage
cant submit location change...AI bot told me to reinstall app when I am waiting already at the airport for a scheduled pickup.
Scheduled rides get cancelled — and you're left late
A pre-booked ride to the doctor, airport, or work falls through: no driver found or it gets cancelled, forcing a scramble over to Uber.
Driver's cancelled twice for a scheduled pick up.
HORRIBLE I scheduled it at 10am at 8:30am. Apparently couldn't find any drivers had to go to uber.
scheduled an 8:30 a.m. ride from a night before to go to my doctor in the city. At 8:30 a.m my ride was 7 minutes away, at 8:35 a.m. it was 17 minutes away.
Cancellation and "late" fees where the service is at fault
They charge a cancellation fee even when no driver was ever assigned, and fine you for being "late" though the app stopped notifying when the car arrived.
the cancellation fees are ridiculous even if it's the drivers fault and not yours
it doesn't notify if driver has arrived. So I have to keep looking at my phone because if driver arrives and I am not there on the street to get into the car, Lyft would charge me a fee for being "late"
This is a horrible app, that the drivers are almost always late but when you make the driver wait 1 minute you get charged extra?!?!
Ads in a paid app hide the driver's details
Intrusive ads appeared in a paid service — they block the map, hide driver info, and, per reviews, drain the battery.
Why the hell are there ads in the Lyft app now? And why the hell can't I turn them off?
Now they HIDE THE DRIVER INFORMATION.
The ads are distracting and make it harder to interact with the map.
Stuck in a verification and confirmation loop
The app suddenly demands ID re-verification from an already-verified rider and loops on the confirm screen — leaving people stranded at work or the airport for hours.
Left me stuck at work for 3 hours. App just suddenly got stuck in a id verification loop. Im already a verified rider, so that makes literally no sense.
it's hopeless - despite trying a few dozen times , it's stuck in a Confirm loop.
the app wanted to suddenly verify my ID after months of using Lyft. again and again I verified my ID and was rerouted to select destination over and over.
Language barrier with drivers complicates problem situations
Some riders complain drivers don't speak English — which muddles pickups, returning lost items, and sorting out accidents.
No proper contact lost item, driver reported as having it (doesn't speak english)
the only think I don't like is some of the drivers do not speak English.
the drivers are not physically handicapped; but unable to speak, read or understand English
