MapMyRide reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
A free, set-and-forget GPS ride tracker for casual and beginner cyclists — simple and reliable at its core, yet undermined by a forced sign-up wall, pushy subscription, and a wave of post-update breakage.
What users love
Set-and-forget: auto-pause and voice splits make tracking effortless
What users love most: auto-pause when you stop and auto-resume when you ride, plus voice mile announcements — strap the phone in and just go.
I love the "set it & forget" option that detects when you stop & automatically pauses. then, is automatically "continues" when I resume cycling.
great app for riding my e bike. set it and forget it until your done riding!
automatically paused when stopped and resumed when started again. GPS and distance works well
Does one thing and nails it: nothing bloated
Users prize that it doesn't try to be everything — it gives map, distance, time, speed and calories, and stops there.
This program does exactly what I need it to do. Map my ride. Gives essential mapping info and nothing more.
love this ao. perfect and does not try to do too much does what it does and does it perfectly!
does exactly what it's supposed to do "perfectly"
The free tier is genuinely enough — and it doesn't beg for money
Many ride on the free version for years and stay happy: the basics cover their needs, ads are minimal, and the upsell doesn't nag.
Easy. It works well. Not bugging me to pay money.
I only use the free portion and am super pleased with everything about it.
all the features you get with the free version
Perfect for beginners and seniors: clear from the first try
Brand-new cyclists and older users specifically note they got it right away — the app motivates them and doesn't intimidate with complexity.
As a senior this works great for mapping my ride.
I'm a 74 yr old Gramma, and I find this easy to use, so you know you will, too!
very easy to use app, great for beginners like myself.
Multi-sport: one tracker for cycling, walking, horses and kayaking
People use it well beyond cycling — for walking, running, motorcycling, horse riding and kayaking — valuing one home for all their activity.
We ride horses, it has a horse setting!
After miles and miles, kayaking it is still the best app ever.
I use it for tracking my back road motorcycle rides as well as cycling. :)
Years-long reliability: runs for years without failing
A large group of long-timers report using it for 3, 5, even more years, several times a week, and it has never let them down.
Used this app for at least a year now 3 to 4 times per week, weather permitting. It has never failed.
This app seemed rock solid have been using it for years and I don't have any problems.
I've used this app for 3+ years and have yet to find anything better.
What users hate
The forced sign-up before you can start frustrates even fans
The app demands a login and acceptance of terms before it lets you ride — people want to just start and sort it out later, and login/password failures lock them out entirely.
forces you to join before you can use the app.
Infuriating that it insists on a log in just to get started riding. (Can't i just do that after i get home ?!)
I just joined and I go to log in and I'm to incorrect email password. Google save it ten min prior. I've reset password 3 times. can't use your app
Hidden subscription and hard cancellation wreck trust
Some users are furious that the subscription and its price aren't disclosed up front, that the app takes your card and won't let you cancel before charging, and that email opt-out doesn't work.
why not say its a subscription and how much right from the start so we dont piss about waisting time only to uninstal when you find out
awful app that takes your bank card and then won't let you cancel your plan before they get their money
ive unsubscribed from emails on multiple occasions and still get so many come through. ive now blocked your emails and reported as spam to Gmail
Updates break what worked: saving, consent screens, crashes
After updates, workouts stop saving, the terms and privacy screens become impassable, and the app crashes — taking other apps down with it.
Worked well until mid-April, then can start a workout, but immediately asks to save workouts and is unable to save. Android 16.
Updated the app, and now it won't allow me past the terms and conditions screen.
won't let me pass the privacy notices since I updated
Nagging about disabled notifications, and settings that change themselves
Users deliberately turn notifications off, yet the app still tells them on every launch that they're off — and sometimes rewrites its own settings.
Why do I keep getting a pop up saying Notifications Not Available? I have disabled them on purpose. reduced to two stars as the app keeps changing its settings by itself.
Now everytime I open Mapmyride I get a message saying notifications are off. If I don't want the notifications I also don't want messages about them.
The micky mouse mileage announcements were annoying
GPS is accurate, then draws straight lines and shorts your miles
Many praise the accuracy, but for some the track comes out as a straight line, jumps between points, shorts the mileage, or fails to align over repeated laps.
for some reason it thinks I cycled in a perfectly straight line. Not sure why, because I did basically the opposite.
shortcut jumping across points on streets and shorting me mileage
now its a glorified timer. Even went online and mapped out the route, still can't track it accurately.
Battery drain and no power-save mode for long rides
On long rides the app noticeably drains the battery, won't run in power-save mode, and lacks a lightweight large-readout speedometer mode.
only down side is that it won't run in power-save mode on my old phone, so battery runs out if I'm not fully charged before my rides.
Nice app but could use a low-power speedometer/odometer mode for long rides. Large speed reading, with smaller time and distance readings. It drains my phone fairly quickly.
the only downside is it can be a bit of a battery drain.
Missing route planning, sensors, and auto-finish
Power users miss planning a ride in advance, connecting speed and cadence sensors, and auto-finish — a forgotten ride keeps recording in a car at highway speed.
doesn't have the option to plan in advance
would be better if there was an actual option for connecting to speed and cadence sensors. but there is only a connection to heart monitor settings
there's no auto detection if you forget to end the ride. If you're in a car going highway speeds it still tracks like you are riding.
