Napster reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
Napster (formerly Rhapsody) is one of the oldest music streaming services that, after its 2025 sale to Infinite Reality, gutted its real-artist catalog and pivoted to an AI music generator — enraging an audience that had built playlists here for 15-25 years.
What users love
Deep 15-25 year loyalty, burned by a single update
Beneath the bitterness is rare devotion: people stayed since the Rhapsody era, 15-26 years, discovered countless 60s-70s artists through it, and never left for competitors because "I had Rhapsody." That loyalty is the measure of what the company torched.
Discovered so many artists id never heard of grom the 60's and 70's through the app.
For decades I have said I didn't need to subscribe elsewhere because I had Rhapsody
after 26 faithful years, I've been faithful to Napster. even with all the issues. I am sad to leave the app. Goodbye, old friend.
What users hate
Playlists built over decades vanished overnight with no warning
The core pain: users open the app to find playlists they spent years building are empty or cut down to a couple of songs. No notice, no chance to export first — just gone. For many these were sentimental collections (anniversaries, kids' songs), and the loss feels deeply personal.
I spent YEARS creating my Playlist to have them deleted and unavailable.
I had one of mine & my husband's 20th anniversary that had all "our" songs on it. Now they're gone!
Very frustrating after all the years with Napster to one day find all of my playlists gone and irretrievable. Changing the platform is no excuse. No notification just gone.
Turning a music service into an AI song generator nobody asked for
Users are furious that real-artist streaming was swapped for AI-generated music. It reads as a slap in the face to human musicians and a bait-and-switch: people pay for a catalog and get a "slop machine" with credits. The AI songs themselves are described as generic garbage that doesn't even do what you ask.
This is no longer a music app. It is an AI slop music generator. There are no real artists here anymore, seriously.
it just makes up its own songs which are actually like every other AI song that comes out
an insult to the real Napster. just another slop machine begging for credits
The real-artist catalog got gutted — whole labels and older music gone
Huge chunks of the library disappeared: 200+ track playlists collapse to 17-32, well-known artists no longer come up in search. Users tie it to unpaid royalties and a Sony lawsuit, with mostly music from the last 5-6 years left. They describe it as "a music app with no music."
Without warning they removed thousands if not millions of tracks. I had Playlists cut from 200+ tracks down to like 17.
this app won't show any bands older than 5 years
Come to find out they hadn't been paying royalties to Sony so all of their music was pulled.
Downloaded offline tracks that were paid for got wiped too
Even music downloaded for offline listening vanished — the thing people relied on while traveling or on the road. Some had bought individual tracks and "lifetime access" back in the Rhapsody days, and those purchases are gone too. It feels like paid-for content was simply taken away.
Even everything that I had saved to play offline was gone.
lost all the music I've downloaded and paid for over the years.
I actually have tracks that I paid lifetime access to
Still billing for a service that effectively no longer exists
The subscription keeps charging for months even though there's been no music since September 2025. People who paid a year up front are left with no catalog. The company replies with a canned apology about a "temporary inconvenience" but gives no end date — users feel they're paying for a lie.
Napster has taken payments from me but hasn't made what I've paid for available. Crooks!!
You don't charge people for a service that's UNAVAILABLE FOR OVER 3 MONTHS+!
I wonder how many months I paid for a lie
Cancelling the subscription is nearly impossible — the option was removed
Cancelling is turned into a maze: in-app account management was removed, the website won't load, password reset fails. Some can't get out for ages and consider just having their bank block the charges. The subscription feels like a trap.
the option to cancel my subscription has been removed. So it seems I'm being forced to pay for nothing.
How the heck do I cancel my membership, I feel trapped by Napster!!!!!
Now. How in the world do you cancel????!!!!?!?!?!?
No real support — requests get the same recycled paragraph
There's no way to reach a human: the phone doesn't work, emails don't reach the right team, and every request gets the same generated reply. Refund demands are ignored. It deepens the sense of abandonment for customers of 15-20 years.
I cannot contact yall on phone for assistance. the emails yall sending me is not connecting me to the right info
The response from napster is the same recycled paragraph.
all I hear are crickets. Shame on Napster and its abysmal customer service.
Refunds are refused, and "class action" keeps coming up
People who bought annual plans are denied refunds on a "14-day window" technicality while getting no service at all. The outrage is so widespread that reviewers openly rally each other toward a class action and threaten Better Business Bureau complaints.
perhaps we should all get together for a class action suit
There needs to be a class action lawsuit brought against the company that now owns Napster.
I can't get a refund because it been over 14 days.
Broken login: "signed in on another device," password reset fails
After the update many simply can't log in: the app says you're signed in on another device, the saved password is rejected, and reset emails don't arrive. Some can't even register with email and are forced to use Google. Account and music access is lost out of nowhere.
Now it tells me I am logged in on another device when I am not.
Saved login info won't work. Tried to change my password, and login still fails every time.
downloaded it couldn't sign up or sign in with my email , had to use Google
The app crashes and won't play music after the update
Beyond the catalog loss, the app itself runs badly: it crashes, won't load playlists, and either plays tracks partway or not at all. Some have to restart their phone after a few songs to keep listening. The basic playback function is broken.
I now have to constantly restart my phone after so many plays to continue listening to music
app doesn't work at all on phone since latest update. music is all gone, Playlist wont load.
Songs don't play all the way through and some songs don't play at all.
Zero warning about the format change — found out only by the wreckage
The procedural grievance: the company changed the entire platform without notice. Worse, some got emails saying "nothing is changing," then logged in to find everything empty. Had there been a warning, they could have exported playlists to another service in time.
They went and changed their whole platform without notice!
why didn't you notify us of the change please help me to transferre all of my music
There was no warning about the transition. In fact, received an email stating nothing was changing.
A mass exodus to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music
The reviews have effectively become an exit guide: people describe using TuneMyMusic and export tools to move playlists to Spotify or YouTube Music and cancel. Competitors even throw in a free first month. This is no longer scattered churn but a coordinated exodus of the whole base.
I used TuneMyMusic to transfer my playlist file to Spotify. I even got the first month for free. Goodbye Napster.
I logged in one last time to export my list to YouTube Music where they thankfully appeared again, fully restored.
Stay away from this app if you want music and go to Spotify.
