Pandora: Music & Podcasts reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
A pioneer of personalized radio for people who just want to hit play and go, but in recent years it has slid into constant crashes, escalating ads, and a paywall layered over what used to be free.
What users love
Thumbprint station: easy to build your own mix for any mood
Fans love the personalized radio specifically: within a couple of days it learns your taste, builds a thumbprint station from your likes, and surfaces new artists — the very reason people stay.
Absolutely 🤗 this musical app over any of the others Because how easy it was to create my own thumbprint station with every type of music!
Awesome app I listen to it and jam out every day. After a couple days and remembers what you like and only plays the music you like.
I love Pandora because it programs the music to what you're usually listening too. It also remembers all the music you have thumped up and creates a thumped up station with all your favorite songs.
Solid free radio with short ads
A chunk of users praise the free tier specifically: a wide music selection without paying, ads shorter and less frequent than Spotify's, plus one of the cheapest ad-free plans around.
best available, every other app is honestly a joke. no pay walls, dirt cheap for premium, runs smoothly, has all the music I could ever want, and they are constantly fixing any bugs that occur.
better free version than other music apps
best music app for free listening, especially on mobile because Spotify has more ads and so many caveats on the mobile app, which Pandora has none of.
Broad genre range — from jazz to K-pop
Those who stay value the variety: jazz, blues, rock, country, soul, oldies, K-pop — Pandora offers wider choice and better variety than many rivals.
This app is very handy, much better than the web or Smart TV version. Pandora plays better variety with more options than other music streamers.
when it comes to Pandora, I just love it. Pandora plays from Jazz, Blues, Rock and Roll, Country, Soul, and many more.
Where else can I listen to Kpop music and generate new group Playlist but Pandora?
What users hate
Crashes and freezes mid-listen
The top complaint: the app drops after a song or two, freezes, force-closes itself and dumps you on the home screen — even for paying subscribers, and whether it's open or backgrounded.
the app keeps crashing while listening to music. this had been happening for days regardless of on wifi or not.
App constantly crashes after a song or two. Freezes, abruptly quits. Has become unusable. Ridiculous.
constantly automatically just exiting and stopping music and its annoying I have used this app for years and as a few months ago this happens
Too many ads — two spots between songs
The free tier has effectively vanished: ads land after every one or two songs, the same spots repeat and got louder, and some users get intrusive, off-topic ads on top of it.
too many commercials. commercials after every two songs! worse than the radio!!
I don't mind ads, but ads after every two songs is ridiculous
why are the commercials so god damn loud.
Stations repeat themselves and bleed in wrong genres
The algorithm loops the same songs and blends in artists from completely different genres — rock mixes with rap, and stations barely play the very artist you picked.
even though I can add lots of variety to my lists and have spent much time on it, Pandora tends to play the same songs every day, huge disappointment!
Doesn't matter what you play. all my stations are blended together rock playing rap and vise versa.
algorithm sucks. all you're doing is mixing the genres for every station.
Suddenly walls off what used to be free
Longtime free users suddenly hit a paywall: skip limits, can't play a station without paying, and an upgrade prompt after every song — it reads as plain greed.
Pandora used to be my go to app for music. now you have to literally pay to listen to a station or anything.
Horrible. To start, I have never once payed for Pandora premium or ANY subscriptions within the app. And now its suddenly asking me to buy premium, after such a long time of just using the free pandora.
fix this app because today I'm trying to listen to my music and it's saying that I ran out of skips and it won't let me listen to none of my music and it's saying that I have to pay for it now and I shouldn't have to
Drains battery and hogs the background
The app keeps running in the background and burns through battery; the phone itself suggests putting it in deep sleep, and users have to force-stop it after every use.
still crashing and causing high battery usage! what am I paying for?!
Has good music, but drains battery like crazy. When I'm at work I'm out so I can't use this anymore.
absolutely destroys battery while in use. needs to be force stopped after use to keep from using even more. Pandora aware of issue and does nothing.
Self-launches and opens from other apps' ads
The app launches on its own — from ads inside other games, on Bluetooth or Android Auto connect, even with autoplay off; one user got woken up by music at 6:30 in the morning.
An ad was able to open this app on my phone. immediately uninstalled.
Pandora decided to self-activate even though the app was closed no other apps are open and my Bluetooth was off it woke us up at 6:30 in the morning.
app keeps auto-starting when connected to Bluetooth and Android Auto even though it is turned off. No solution has been found.
Ignores thumbs-down and won't let you block an artist
The system ignores dislikes: thumbs-downed artists return almost every other song, you can't block a whole artist, and 'licensing requirements' force unwanted tracks to play out.
I have thumbs downed an artist over 50 times and they still get played almost every other song, never part of the playlist, never thumbed up. useless system.
it doesn't listen to my thumbs down, which means don't play it
2026 and we still cant just block an entire artist. I have to individually thumbs down all of their songs and they can still come up on other stations/autoplay, so stupid.
Music keeps stopping and won't play in the background
Playback goes silent mid-song, the queue stalls, and music cuts out when the screen turns off or you switch apps — hitting paying users too.
Pandora always pauses itself. it's always crashing. And sometimes turns on by itself.
I simply can't describe how wonderfully convenient it is to have the music completely STOP for absolutely no reason the precise moment I step under the shower
Pandora is quite annoying. I have premium (family version) and bugs still limit my experience. For example, my queue just straight up does not work. The song will end and then pause for eternity until i manually play the next song
Constant 'session timed out' and won't load
The app sticks on 'session timed out' or wrongly claims you're outside the US, refuses to load even on Wi-Fi, and reinstalling doesn't help — locking out longtime subscribers.
the app keeps closing and saying session has timed out I've installed and unstall it numerous times.
having trouble logging in. I keep getting an error saying I'm outside the US when I'm not!
today Pandora is not working! I am in the Untied States and it is giving me an error that Pandora is not available here 🤔
Impossible to cancel, and they bill after you cancel
Cancelling becomes a fight: no clear button on the site, charges continue after you cancel, refunds get denied, and the support bot gives the runaround — some cancel their card just to escape.
I canceled my account in May 10th 2026. I was billed for the service on June 1st 2026. I reached out to Google play store and they told me my request for refund was denied.
I want to just say I do not recommend this app. If you have a premium subscription, and want to change it, Pandora will fight you tooth and nail. I'm needing to cancel my credit card just to get rid of them.
impossible to cancel subscription dont enroll if you like to keep your money... pandora do better offer monthly instead of auto renew....
Clunky interface — editing stations takes too many steps
Navigation is awkward: cleaning up a station, deleting a song from a playlist, or making a station from a playlist takes endless back-and-forth, and some actions only work on the desktop site.
I switched from Spotify hoping Pandora would be better, but the interface is confusing and frustrating. Finding music, managing stations, or deleting playlists takes too many steps.
edited: now I cant delete songs off a Playlist, i have deleted them no less than 8 times and guess whats still there every time I open the app again?
What a disappointment. An incredibly hard to navigate system that doesn't let you clean up stations regardless of mobile vs laptop.
