I FINALLY found an app to put text on photos in MY chosen fonts. To add effects, simply add text to a blank, save as png & import into your favorite editor. No more font limitations, I'm thrilled.

What users hate
The Android build is systematically poorer than iOS — a visible, resentment-building gap
Zoom, exclusive fonts and features exist on iOS but are missing on Android — and users explicitly notice it and frame it as discrimination. For those who switched from iPhone, the product feels stripped down, turning a platform migration into a churn moment.
why discriminate iOS and android app? give android all the exclusive editing features and fonts carried by the iOS app version
It's incredibly annoying that the iPhone version lets you zoom in and the Android version doesn't.
how do you zoom in?? you can zoom in on ios but not on android??
Save failure destroys work exactly at completion — loss after full investment
The "failed to save image" error strikes not at the start but at the end — after the user has invested time in the edit. The loss lands at the point of maximum value, so the reaction is disproportionately sharp: people abandon long projects and leave for a rival even while otherwise loving the app.
too bad , after a long time of editing, when it comes to save the picture ,it's showing error or failed to save, that was ridiculous
every so many images it tells me it cant save the image so I have clear it out and act like im starting all over.
so any work you did is lost in an error
The missing undo turns any accidental slip into a catastrophe
There's no undo button — so a single wrong tap forces starting over "from the very start." For an app with text layers this is a structural flaw: users have begged for undo for years, because without it every action is irreversible and every mistake is costly.
can you guys put an "undo" button for us, especially if we made mistakes by accident. so that we can't go back from the very start
there's also no undo button or way to access items underneath the top layer of text, like if you have two elements overlapping.

The same font openness makes Android onboarding painful
The core strength — installing your own TTF — backfires at onboarding: on Android users can't figure out how to load a font file and give up even with AI-guided steps. The killer feature sits behind a barrier that turns away newcomers at the exact thing they came for.
I could not figure out how to install my font file. I used AI (co-pilot)for assistance and followed it's step by step instructions and it even said that this app is very touchy when it comes to Android.

How do I get some #mono APK downloads into Phonto? They're on my phone but I can't use them in the app.
Downloaded fonts aren't tied to an account — reinstalling wipes the whole library
Fonts live only locally: clearing storage or reinstalling destroys a collection built over years. Since fonts are the very reason for loyalty, losing them hits the user's most valued asset; the request for an account to preserve fonts comes up again and again.
sometimes I accidentally uninstall the app when I cleared my storage and when I installed it back all the fonts I downloaded was gone I wish the creator can add like idk maybe let user created an account to keep all their downloaded fonts
Stability is very shaky, blacking out all pics and turning the app off, don't want to uninstall put to many new fonts on it
I just lost several important projects I had saved under The heading projects as a result of the latest update!!! they have been deleted and not by me!!!
You can place text but not iterate — no reopening of finished projects
To tweak a finished piece you must have saved it beforehand — you can't go back and reopen a recent project to edit. This breaks the natural "make — review — fix" loop and forces redoing from scratch, which stings especially hard given the missing undo.

Dragging text on the photo — the core pain of precise placement without zoom
Without zoom and without a centering indicator, users position text "by gut feel" and can't hit it precisely. For an app whose only job is placing text in the right spot, the inability to do it cleanly undermines the product's whole point for demanding users.
it would be better of they put like a sign or an indicator if the text is centered, cause i usually just trust my guts lol

Reusing a recent font means scrolling the entire list again
There's no recent-fonts history: to apply the same font to the next word you must scroll through dozens again. With a large collection this turns multi-line work into a tedious hunt and directly slows the very power users that custom fonts are meant to serve.
when I use 1 for a word cannot go straight back to that font for following word on another line--- hv to scroll thru all the fonts again to get back to that font.
Great app but would love it to remember the fonts that I use on a regular basis.
great app thank you creator please add color change of letters manually and please add search option for fonts.
Transparent PNG export is impossible — the text layer can't leave as an asset
Many users want to carry finished text into another editor, but the lack of transparent-background PNG export traps the work inside Phonto. It blocks slotting it into a richer design pipeline and loses the advanced segment that would otherwise make Phonto part of their toolset.
it doesn't allow you to save images with a transparent bg (so pngs)
i think this app should have transparent png save option this is good for edit.
Works great on Android, but doesn't work on Chromebooks at all. Is there any chance of an option to export text styles, or is that not possible?
No cropping or image-level editing pushes users out to other apps
Phonto handles only text, not the photo: no crop, no background blur, no borders. Users have to hop to a neighboring app to prep the image — and that's a window in which they may not come back. Expanding into basic photo editing would close the leak.
bluring the back ground and option to crop the inserted image should be there. many times it was informed. nothing is improved or updated
I suggest to offer various border designs also for photos, which will be very useful for people making covers and posters etc. They won't have to go to another app for that.

Weak out-of-box typography — no text curve, per-word bold, per-letter color
Despite font freedom, fine typographic control is missing: you can't curve text, bold a single word, color one letter, or auto-wrap a line. This caps the design ceiling and prevents turning loyal hobbyists into a professional-grade tool.
I'd like to curve the text.
