QuitNow! reviews

What users love and hate, from real reviews

A quit-smoking tracker with a day counter, health/money-saved stats and a community chat — a powerful motivator for people genuinely ready to quit, undercut by an aggressive paywall and unpredictable chat moderation.

What users love

The «time since» counter is the core motivator: nobody wants to reset to zero

People reopen the app every time they crave, look at the day counter and realise: one cigarette and it all goes back to zero. This simple loop genuinely stops relapses.

every time I get a craving I think twice. Resetting to 0 days is not an option. Over a year NICOTINE FREE!

whenever I was craving and I wanted to reach out for a cigarette I came to this app and look at the time that I was smoke free and I was like if I smoke this cigarettes this time is going to be zero again

Every time I want to smoke a cigarette, I pull my app and look at number.. itvreally helps to push another day and another day

«Money saved» and «health improvements» — the stats that land hardest

The money-saved figure, the count of cigarettes avoided and the health-recovery timeline give people a tangible, measurable reason to keep going.

seeing the amount of money I have saved was a big motivator. Also to see my health getting better was the icing on the cake

Love the step by step information of how your body improves over time without a smoke.

It's a wake up call realising how much money has been spent on smoking and the effects that it has on the body.

The community chat — for many it was the people, not the timer, that helped them quit

Global chat rooms in many languages, support from fellow quitters and advice from people who succeeded — for a chunk of users this is the app's main value.

the 5 star rating is for the community that is on the app they are kind helpful and really want everyone to succeed

It is an invaluable tool, as fast as I [used to] light a smoke, I can connect to a support network, full of people that want to help.

Great app, especially for the community chat where you can talk with other quitters and provide support for each other.

Weak spots

What users hate

Almost everything useful sits behind a subscription — the counter and a couple of badges stay free

Users complain that 95% of the app is behind a paywall: achievements, chat, the breathing tool, the health timeline. What's left free is essentially a bare timer.

Its just a day counter, for all other options you have to pat, which is just pathetic

I guess it works as a time tracker... Time doesn't seem to update on weekends. Also 95% of the app is behind a pay wall so kinda lame app.

A lot of uninteresting achievements (days, hours, etc) and almost nothing health related for the free version.

«It used to be free» — long-time users feel features they already had were taken away

People who quit with the app years ago come back to find ads, forced sign-in and a subscription for features that used to be free or were bought outright. It feels like a betrayal of the community.

this app was good many years ago. I used it before to quit. but now everything is paywalled it's not the same. not getting the same push from it anymore.

Upgraded through app to pro version years ago, now apparently I have to pay a subscription fee to use features I already paid for. Take your greedy app and shove it.

I used it in the past and I can't believe it's so expensive now! For something that used to be free.... running on ads... I also like how you took away all the health timers in this free version

That same chat is also a site of bullying and unmoderated toxicity

Newcomers run into rudeness, trolling and age-shaming; religious fanatics and creepy advances turn the «friendly community» into a stressor. Reports go unanswered by moderators.

as soon as I joined the support group I could already tell it was not monitored as I was bullied in the first 5 minutes

Everyone on there treats you like garbage no matter your age.

the community part has become somewhat of a dating app with a little bit of support thrown in. Lots of men hitting on women which causes some upset.

On first launch a «Continue» pop-up drops you straight onto a payment screen

Many never even get to learn the app costs money: the paywall pops before the questionnaire, before they try anything. People call it predatory and uninstall on the spot.

Started the app, a pop-up appeared with the word "continue", when tapped it immediately led to a payment screen. Predatory tactic. Uninstalled immediately.

No paywall notification pre questionnaire

Why you dont tell us that paying in application and nothing free

«Just a timer you could build in Excel» — the price doesn't match the simplicity

For many, ~$20/year for a counter and some badges feels absurdly overpriced: they say a dozen students could build it in a week, and the savings math is just a formula.

It's a nice app but to charge 20 dollars a year for a timer and some achievements seems quite steep. This app could be done by a dozen college students in a week.

I could do that simple calculation in Excel myself for free, and I could even schedule notifications to encourage myself

I don't think it helps, and it's hilarious yo pay for a calculator.

The widget and timer often freeze at zero or stop updating

The widget — billed as a key feature — shows 0 days, the timer doesn't advance on weekends or overnight, and achievements fail to unlock. People can't tell if it's a fake timer or just broken.

The widget (the most important part) sucks

The widget doesn't seem to update properly. The number of days doesn't increase at times leaving the user confused.

It shows achievements but they don't activate and your time always stays as 0:00:00.

Surprise charges, vanished achievements and no way to get a refund

The subscription charges without consent, the promised «health achievements» never appear after paying, and there's no way to reach support or get a refund — some users threaten legal action.

The subscription is a scam, they falsely advertise additional health milestones but there aren't any.

The quit smoking app has deducted money from my account since dint wanted any subscription.

You can not get a refund at all, I used the app for 1 minute and there is no way to even contact the support.

Intrusive ads and constant subscribe-nags annoy users — and even trigger cravings

A huge banner on every open, endless subscribe prompts and floods of ads feel like pressure; one user says outright the ads stress them out and make them want to smoke.

the constant ads stress me out and make me want to smoke

huge banner at the bottom begging for a paid upgrade EVERY TIME I open the app...Little annoying

it's a nice app, the constant asking me to subscribe for money is annoying.

Years of progress lost on Facebook login, plus sign-in failures

Facebook login breaks and wipes out years of progress with no way to recover, while for some users sign-up simply fails with a «something bad happened» error.

I have 3 years of progress lost on the app. And there's no way to contact the support from the login page

I cannot login. Every time I try to login it says something bad happened

It keeos saying something bad happened when I try to sign up.

Can't reset the date or restart the timer after a slip — the function is hidden

After a slip people can't find the button to reset the date or restart the timer — it's buried — and logging a smoked cigarette isn't obvious either. They ask for a way to mark a relapse without starting from scratch.

you should put the reset button in visible area not buzzles

Can't figure out how to restart my timer.

wish there was a way to put in the system if you mess up and have a cigarette. Instead of having to start all the way from the beginning
