Reading Eggs - Learn to Read reviews

A strong literacy and math program for preschoolers and early-grade kids that children genuinely love, wrapped in a buggy app that keeps logging them out and dragging along an aggressive subscription.

The program actually teaches reading — parents see progress within weeks
The core reason people forgive everything else: kids go from non-readers to reading sentences within weeks, and parents notice it on school tests.
This helped my 5 year old go from no reading to now reading at a 7 year old level. Thank you Reading Eggs!
I am absolutely loving this game for my 7 year old daughter. In just 2.5 weeks she has DOUBLED her words per minute reading score at school!!
subscribed for a year now. my 6 year old can now read better than most of his class. even my 4 year old is now learning to read simple sentences.
Genuinely good for neurodiverse kids and for homeschooling
A distinct strength: it's praised by parents of autistic kids and children with learning difficulties, and by homeschooling families — kids work independently and love it, freeing up the parent.
my son has moderate autism and absolutely loves this app. it teaches him so much. thank you.
I homeschool my children. I have tried all kinds of platforms for their curriculums name it we've tried it. But this one right here. I don't have to beg, plead, threaten or anything they LOVE LOVE Reading Eggs.
this is amazing it helped me a lot when I was younger and now I'm in a very lovely school this game is not just for toddlers it can help slow learners as well
When support does respond, it's fast and helpful
Against the «no one to contact» complaints there's a flip side: some parents praise support for replying fast, even over holidays, and fixing the issue same-day.
I faced a problem at first when I used the app. I mailed the support team, they were fast and fixed the problem. they care for the users.
We had a login issue between Xmas and New Years and even still we had someone contact us hours later and had the issue sorted by the end of the day.
Super helpful when I had a few difficulties trying to get started.Thank you customer service for your patience and guidance
What users hate
Constantly logs you out — you have to sign back in several times a day
The most frequent pain: the app doesn't hold a session, kicks the child out multiple times a day, and each time a parent has to stop and re-enter the login.
I have to login all the time. It doesn't store sessions
The really sucky thing of this app is that it constantly logs the kids out on their devices, so I have to get my app to help them log in. Almost every single time.
4 stars because it constantly signs you out.. EXTREMELY annoying. I didn't think apps these days signed you out once you minimise the window.
Glitches, freezes and loses progress — the child repeats the same lesson
The app freezes mid-lesson, then fails to save progress, forcing the child to redo the same map — motivation drops, young kids cry and give up.
Latest update causes endless issues with freezing. Very frustrating for my 6yo who keeps repeating the same map because it isn't saving any part of the lesson once it has frozen.
When it works it's pretty good but it crashes frequently, with progress lost in the process.
I'm on the free trail- the app itself has pretty good content as we were searching for decent phonics for our 2 yr old. This app has that. However ever it is SUPER glitch. It freezes randomly
Wild volume swings: cartoons blast, but the instructions are barely audible
No audio normalization: videos and the «Well done!» jingles blast at max volume while the teaching speech the child actually needs to hear is barely audible — parents are forever adjusting the volume.
the videos are extremely loud but then the activities are really quiet. so frustrating, have to adjust the volume all the time. please fix.
The audio at the end of each lesson that says "Well done!" or "Congratulations" is really loud, but the audio for the actual lesson is very low.
horrible audio normalization. The fluff parts and sound effects are annoyingly loud and the times when you have to hear the speaker to do the activity are super quiet.
The subscription is nearly impossible to cancel, and money is taken even after you cancel
Cancellation sends you in circles or claims «already unsubscribed» — yet keeps charging for months, sometimes yearly amounts, from people who left long ago.
keeps taking money out with no way of cancelling the service everytime I try it says I'm already unsubscribed then charges me
trying to cancel my subscription and this app takes me in circles without allowing me to cancel.
you keep charging my card when i cancelled my subscription with you few months ago
After the update the screen gets stuck forever on "please rotate your device"
A specific recent-update bug: a «rotate your device» message appears that won't clear no matter how you turn the device, blocking both the placement test and the program itself across all devices.
the screen is stuck saying please rotate your device. I've tried rotating my phone every which way, closing then reopening the app, and even uninstalling then reinstalling it. Nothing works.
The boys tried to take the placement test, but could not get past the "please rotate your device" screen. We tried 3 different devices.
After the update it now gets stuck on 'please rotate your device' and now we cant use the app.
The «free» claim is a lie: no play without paying, and the trial often vanishes
Ads promise free access, but you can't even try it without entering payment details, and the promised 30-day trial suddenly turns out «ineligible» or charges you immediately.
says totally free but is not! only free for a period of time!
this game wants you to subscribe first then you can play game 🚮
Description said a trial period of 30 days, I got charged instantly for a month! Requested a refund.
You pay — and the content is still locked, including Mathseeds
The worst case: you pay for a yearly or monthly plan, and the app either won't load past the main screen or says Mathseeds «requires a subscription» — money gone, no access, refund denied.
I paid for the £6.99 monthly subscription and despite that I am being told on the app my child cannot access mathseeds as subscription is required despite paying £6.99.
as soon as I paid the yearly price of £59.99 the app doesn't work. It doesn't load passed the main screen and if it does it's constantly glitches so it's not usable. Refund was declined.
Would be keen to understand why I cannot access mathsee content despite buying a one year subscription..
Crashes on launch and after updates — the app simply won't open
Recent updates turn a working app into a broken one: crash on launch, endless loading, «oops something went wrong» — reinstalling doesn't help.
New update crashes on launch. Reinstalled, same issue.
won't open, crashing constantly on set up phase, then when registered, continues crashing
since this update, they are not able to do any work as it keeps turning off with the message "oops, something went wrong."
Opens as an in-browser site rather than a proper native app
It's essentially a web wrapper: the «app» opens a browser version, forces a login every time, lags, and has no offline mode — many give up and switch to a computer.
The app opens in a in-browser experience, requiring kids to log in everytime. The content is good though.
The app is not worth it—use a computer instead.
No offline mode, so can't use on car trips or planes.
Too much distraction around the lesson — library, store, rude «furballs»
Beyond bugs there's a design gripe: the lesson is buried under clutter (store, market, library), young kids get lost, and characters that taunt a wrong answer hurt the child instead of encouraging.
too much going on - library, store, market. just want a straightforward program. less is more
the furballs are rude when my daughter gets the answer wrong. They stick their tongue out, and it hurts her feelings.
There are also too many distractions outside the lesson content.
