Retake AI Face & Selfie Editor reviews

What users love and hate · 500 reviews analyzed · ★ 2.6

An AI selfie editor that retakes your face to look natural-but-better from photos you upload; its defining tension is that people love the realistic results, yet nearly everything sits behind a pricey weekly subscription that's almost impossible to cancel.

What users love

When it works, the result is natural — you still look like yourself

The top praise: the retouch looks realistic, without a plastic look or someone else's features — it just fixes light and angle and keeps your face yours, and people love it.

love that they don't over filter your face and you still look like yourself!!

amazing it's still you not something or someone else. they got it down to a science.

more realistic than most other apps. I actually love it!

Rescues bad shots — the best photo "retaker" people have tried

Those who get through setup are thrilled: it turns bad photos into good ones, fixes expression and angle, and beats the dozens of other editors they've tried.

it's actually really freaking good!! Turns bad photos into good ones!!

after trying hundreds and hundreds of different photo editing apps..this is a keeper!

strongly recommend if you struggle with taking good selfies. this app will perfect them and make you look amazing every time , and so natural

What users hate

Cancellation is hidden: there's no in-app button and unsubscribing is impossible

The single most common complaint: people hunt for weeks to unsubscribe, the app sends them to the store, the subscription isn't there, and many end up blocking their card or closing their payment account just to stop the charges.

there is no option for canceling this app

near impossible to cancel. it tells you (the app) they can't cancel you have to cancel through the app store than there is no option. this is like trying to find waldo!

impossible to cancel after the free trial. i had to block them from debiting my account through Paypal

The "7-day free trial" is a lie: money is taken the moment you subscribe

The ad promises a free trial, but tapping "start" charges the full amount immediately, or money disappears on day 1–2 — users call it clickbait and bait.

I was about to click it but saw it was actually charging me 7.99. So look carefully, there is no free trial. They just say that to trick you into subscribing

This app states a 7 free day trial, however this is NOT the case. As soon as I downloaded the app, money was taken straight from my account

Says free trial but charges $7.99/week. its just a click bait!!! be aware.

Repeated, unauthorized charges — even after cancelling and deleting

People report multiple charges a month, billing after they cancelled and uninstalled, and even charges for an app they never downloaded; for many it crosses into outright theft.

They constantly take money out of your account without authorization

instead of being charged the subscription fee once, I was charged 3 times last month, and 3 times this month

Why is this app trying to charge my credit card? I didn't download this app

You're forced to pay before you can try anything at all

You must hand over your card before the first use, and you can't make a single edit without paying; people refuse to blindly enter card details for a "free" app.

This app asks my card BEFORE i test the program, not AFTER the trial period.

Why would I buy it when I can't even try it! Delete!

doesn't allow trial without getting your card details. uninstalling immediately

The weekly price is disguised as monthly — and it's wildly high

People think they're paying $5–8 a month, then discover it's per week — nearly $300–400 a year; the price even climbs over time, turning former fans bitter.

the 7.99 free trial does not turn into a 7.99 a month subscription like it leads you to believe. It is 7.99 a week

a very expensive subscription 8£ weekly or 35£ monthly... that's 400£ a year

Well now they want me to pay $7.99 PER WEEK!!!! I mean c'mon people. That's ridiculous.

AI-profile setup loops forever: photos won't upload, you never reach a result

The app demands 10–15 photos but won't let you add past 8–9, freezes on "training the AI," or runs in circles — many never get through setup at all.

it won't upload the photos no matter what

you wont let me add photos but you ask for 10

I kept trying to build a profile and it went in circles

The "how to not look ugly" ad disgusts users and harms self-esteem

A whole wave of reviews isn't about features but about the ad where a woman calls herself ugly before the app; people see it as misogyny that fuels body dysmorphia in teen girls.

to have an ad that says how to stop looking ugly is a terrible thing for especially young ladies to have to look at

how do you justify having a woman in your app describe herself as ugly before using your app and photogenic afterwards? disgusting misogyny!

Love your advertisement for your app, "How to not look ugly, " Really?

You pay and still hit daily limits and a paywalled famine

Even with a subscription, features are throttled: daily caps on photos and downloads, the promised "unlimited retakes" turn out to be 40 a day, and almost everything good is pro-only.

the advertisement says unlimited retakes unlimited results. you would get only 40 photos retake at day so there is limited results

you can only fix one photo a day, one download a day and disables screenshot and have a very limited amount of adjustments

you pay for the subscription and then you limited that’s backwards to me

Frequent crashes, stuck loading, and updates that break it

It crashes 5 times out of 7, sticks on "loading" after payment, and recent updates leave long-paid pro broken — purchased time burns for nothing.

it crashes waaaaay toooo often, like I crash 5/7 times before I make ONE picture

I paid my subscription today and it sticks on loading I've uninstalled reinstalled clear cache nothing works

latest update has left this app unusable

Sometimes the result is fake: bloated lips, painted-on eyes, lost quality

Some users get a cartoonish, unnatural result — enlarged lips, lifeless eyes, compressed lower-quality photos that don't match what the ad promised.

all it does it smooth skin and enlarge lips. don't want either.

Pictures get massively compressed and lose their quality and there's no option to maintain quality. Terrible.

The app either makes me look like a cartoon character or nothing at all.
