RISE: Sleep Tracker reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
An app that maps your daily energy curve from "sleep debt" and circadian rhythm to flag your peaks, dips and melatonin window — but hides the price behind a long survey and only works for a 9-to-5 daytime schedule.
What users love
Support replies fast and refunds without a fight
When people do reach out, replies come within a day, refunds are issued immediately, and the trial is sometimes extended by months as an apology. It's the brightest bright spot: even furious users rewrite their review to five stars because of the service.
they were very apologetic and extended my free 1 week trial to 3 months to make up for the hassle! The app itself is great.
Customer service / tech support was super prompt and helped me cancel the subscription within a couple of hours.
they gave me 3 months free access, while i wrote that review without any intention. i feel really bad, guys 😭
The energy peaks-and-dips chart lands hard when it matches
The headline feature is the daily energy map: people schedule work, reading and runs around it and say the melatonin window genuinely knocks them out. When tracking is accurate (often after a week of learning), the precision of the peaks and dips genuinely impresses.
being able to precisely pinpoint my peak and troughs throughout the day, and optimising my schedule around it, is so simple yet unbelievably effective.
it gets my energy levels during the day so accurate, I'm impressed
the peaks and dips are spot on, and I am completely zonked out if I go to bed in my melatonin window. I have a Fitbit inspire and link it to that.
The "sleep debt" framing eases anxiety and keeps discipline
Instead of chasing "perfect sleep", the app tracks accumulated sleep debt — and for many that removes the pressure and anxiety, creating a motivating feedback loop. In a week the debt drops from 13-16 hours to 3-4, and people feel an energy boost and regain control of their schedule.
I like that it actually helps me reduce my worry about sleep as it focuses on sleep debt over sleep quality. This relieves some pressure about the feeling that you have to sleep perfectly, which for me creates a positive feedback loop.
Love the app. I used the trial period and my sleep debt in 1 week went from 13.5 to 3.6.
Using this app feels like getting life back. I got to reduce sleep debt of 16 hours to 3 hours in a week. and by that time, I can see 1000s of stressful problems, anxiety, chain thinking getting disappeared.
What users hate
The price only appears after a long survey and full data access
People finish the quiz, connect their watch and hand over health data — and only at the very end hit a paywall. Many feel their time and personal info were extracted under false pretenses, and rate it one star not for being paid but for not saying so up front.
Good through an elaborate data collection process and then hits you with the paywall. A huge waste of setup time.
Only tells you that you need to pay after you give them access to all your data. If I need to pay to use the app at least tell me right away
Another app hiding the paywall after asking a million questions. I should have known better. 1 star review NOT because it costs to use, but for the fact it lets you complete the setup before informing you that it will cost.
For night-shift and "sleep-during-the-day" schedules the app simply doesn't work
The time slider cuts the day off: latest bedtime around 6:30 a.m., latest wake around 2:30 p.m. Nurses, security and anyone who sleeps in the daytime can't even enter their real schedule and abandon setup halfway. The app is built for the "9-to-5 day-walker".
I work night shift and sleep during the day. I cannot enter my sleep schedule into the app because the time isn't even available. Very disappointed.
It only has options to go to sleep between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and wake up between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. I work overnights, so I have to be awake between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m.
useless for over night people as there are no "normal times" for me selectable so no matter what it calculates for ideal bed time it means quit my job.
Phone-motion sleep detection lies and counts stillness as sleep
A phone on the charger, a movie or a night on the desk turns into "sleep", while a real 8 hours shrinks to 4. You can't turn the motion detector off, deleting a false entry is hard — and the whole "sleep debt" is built on invented numbers.
if I sit down to watch a movie it records it as a nap and there's just no way to delete the incorrect record.
very inaccurate, I put my phone on charge during the day and it assumes I am asleep, just because I'm not using my phone 24/7 does not mean I am asleep
Seemingly unable to disable motion detection so its logging hours that my phone is on my desk as "sleep".
Sync with Samsung Health and Health Connect keeps breaking
For Samsung and Garmin owners the app repeatedly fails to pull watch data, even though other apps grab it fine. After payment sync often stops entirely, forcing manual entry — which defeats the whole point of a tracker.
App does not sync with my Samsung Health tracker. I followed the instructions, linked it to Health Connect, permissions granted, etc. Reset the app multiple times and checked with Samsung Health as well. Rise won't sync. Totally defeats the purpose of this app.
paid for annual subscription and then stopped working. no longer sync to health connect. i have another app that syncs with health connect to my samsung watch.
Why do I keep on having to manually put in my sleep data when it's connected? Other 3rd party apps access this information with no problem.
The free trial turns into a yearly charge with no reminder
People turn on the "remind me before the charge" option, but the reminder never comes — and the card is hit for $60-70 for a full year at once. Often the charge lands even before the trial ends or after cancelling, and the only fix is going through Google Play.
Got auto charged for the full year with zero notification even though I specifically selected the option in the app to receive a reminder notification before I was charged.
I woke up today the day after I started using the app and ive been charged for a whole year already. I immediately canceled it
I just realized I'd been paying for it despite not having it downloaded for 4 years
Cancelling is a maze, and the charges keep coming
The cancel button doesn't work, the website instructions are wrong, and after cancelling the charges still try to go through. Some people can't even reach their profile to unsubscribe — and keep paying for an app they don't use.
Just Try To Cancel.. If you call the 855 number, they refer you to the website. The cancel instructions given on the website are inaccurate, so you can't cancel. Don't sign up unless you want to pay forever.
despite canceling my subscription they continue to try and charge me
HELP. If the subscription button is where I'm to cancel, it isn't allowing me to. Don't charge me.
After onboarding the app freezes on a black screen
After finishing the quiz, many users — Samsung and others — hit a black screen or endless loading and can't get any further, sometimes after already paying. Specific screens ("Change Your Biology", "Calculating energy", "Get Started") reliably hang the app.
I can't even get past the login page. The app takes you through a quiz and then just goes into a black screen. I ended up paying for a 3 month subscription and can't even use it.
It doesn't work. After taking a quiz it froze. I tried restarting the app and also my phone. No matter what I did when I opened the app I got a black screen with a small purple rectangle in the bottom left corner.
Every time I get to the "Change Your Biology" page, the program locks up. It won’t allow me to go forward or back. It just stalls.
The advice is generic: late chronotypes and atypical bodies are ignored
The algorithm hands out averaged "afternoon dip" and "evening peak" calls that often contradict how the person actually feels. Late chronotypes, oversleepers, parents of toddlers and people with chronic illness get advice that doesn't fit — it's a one-size-fits-all template.
Not for late chronotypes. This app seems suited for early chronotypes. seems to ignore that there are people who are late chronotypes. I don't have a morning peak
it's often telling me I should be peaking when I feel ready to take a nap or tells me I should be in a slump when I'm being super productive.
This app is a one size fits all type of app. It has no options for people who work night shifts of people who have imbalances that affect energy levels.
Notifications either spam all day or never arrive
You can't use the app without notifications on, and then they pile up 5-8 times a day. For others the text and on-screen alerts stay silent even on new Samsung phones — while they worked on an old iPhone. So it's either intrusive or useless.
you can not use the app without them on which i feel is invasive, annoying, and unnecessary. i get around 5-8 notifications from this app every day and each time it annoys me.
has a lot of potential but the notifications don't work. Text doesn't work and phone notifications are silent.
Notifications wont work on my s25 ultra despite all settings being on and having paid for a subscription. used to work fine on my old iphone so this is super disappointing.
Manual entry and editing sleep is painful on a clunky UI
When auto-tracking fails, you're left entering and editing sleep by hand — and the sliders, charts and day-switching are so awkward that people give up. It's especially hard for those with ADHD or an early cycle: editing past entries becomes a fight.
The slider bars to adjust sleep times are difficult to use accurately.
when you try to edit your sleep log, the UI is so cumbersome and unnecessarily difficult to use. This app is all flash and little to no substance.
it does a terrible job of backfilling missing entries from health tracker pipelines, and the manual entry feature is awkward, and yet should you successfully, yet incorrectly, use it, you'll find yourself yearning for its elegance once you try to edit your sleep timeline.
Ads promise "free", inside there's only a yearly subscription
Instagram and TikTok ads say "free", but inside there's no free tier and not even monthly billing — only a pricey yearly plan ($60-70). Students and low-budget users feel misled and beg for at least an ad-supported version.
the ad on Instagram said it was free and sure enough it wants me to pay for it
There is no monthly payment option! There is a 7 day free trial and then it renews yearly. Sorry, but I'm not signing up to a yearly subscription after 7 days
says free in the ads but then they ask for a credit card
