For loyal fans — the best trip planner they've used for years
A core of users adores the app and won't travel without it: up to 150 waypoints per route, day-by-day breakdown, reservations, budget, notes, and a shareable link for family. People plan 4+ week, 6,500-mile trips with it for years and consider the annual fee well worth it.
Simply perfect road trip planner! From being able to add up to 150 way points, to using it directly with Google maps for navigation, I cannot say enough about how awesome this software is
I have been using Roadtrippers since 2017. It is amazing. Wouldn't travel without it.
we have made 2 long trips out west with it. The first one was for over 4 weeks, we traveled over 6,500 miles . well worth the annual fee.
Strong concept: it surfaces cool stops you never knew existed
When it works, it nails its core job — finding interesting, quirky and free spots along the route, revealing things you'd otherwise drive right past. It's this discovery value that keeps people coming back despite the flaws.
It can be helpful if you have no idea what is on your route. It showed us some cool stuff we didn't know existed.
The app was great for finding fun things off the beaten track, and things that are free, yay.

Used to be free, now paywalled — the subscription killed what people loved
Dozens of long-time users open the app to find that without a subscription ($35–65/yr) you can barely do anything — not even plan your own route. The grievance isn't «too pricey», it's «they took away what used to be free».
worthless now. You used to be able to use it without paying for a yearly subscription but now you are forced to pay to do basically anything on the app.

«There was a problem creating your trip» — the trip simply won't generate
A very common scenario: trying to create a trip throws the same error over and over. People toggle Wi-Fi, try exact addresses, reinstall — nothing helps, and even in the paid trial no itinerary loads.

Auto-renewal with no notice and near-impossible cancellation
The subscription renews with no reminder email, and cancelling is hard: on Android you have to email support and «ask permission». Many got charged for years of non-use, and refunds are refused.
They bill without sending any notices for renewals, and although I haven't used the app for 1.5 years, they will not refund auto renewals that I did not sign up for
I have been unable to cancel. I sold my RV two years ago due to cancer and can't find how to cancel on the app or website. Beware, I'm in, but I can't get out.
canceled subscription and they still charged me. Just canceled it again. scam not worth the $$
Makes you pay before showing a single example
The app makes you enter a pile of info, walks you through questionnaires, then dead-ends at an upgrade prompt — never showing what it does. People are willing to pay but want to see a sample trip first.

Confusing and useless unless you buy the premium version. Can't figure out what exactly it can do for use without spending money. I'm willing to pay, but show me an example of a trip first.

No Android Auto — nothing to use behind the wheel
The app doesn't support Android Auto (CarPlay only), so after planning you still have to re-enter waypoints into Google Maps by hand. For a navigation app, users see this as a fundamental failure.
This app is not compatible with Android Auto for navigation. The membership is a waste of money because of this major lack.

This navigation app does not actually navigate. They tell you your waypoints and you get to enter them into Google maps manually. One at a time
Lag, freezes and crashes — you have to restart after every edit
The app constantly freezes, scrolls slowly and crashes; making a single change to the route often means closing and reopening it — and this hits paying premium users too.
Buggy and crashes a lot. It's got some cool resources and it's a neat app, in theory, but I have to re-load the app after every amendment to my itinerary

Doesn't work outside the US — Canada, Europe and the UK fall flat
Outside the US the app is essentially useless: Canadian and European addresses aren't recognized, and searching Paris only returns Paris, TX. The limitation isn't stated up front, so people pay before finding out.
tried serching for paris as a starting location just to test it and it only came up with paris,TX, instead of paris the actual capital of france.

used to be a great app, now its useless. im doing a roadtrip in scotland and not a single location pulls up.
No offline mode — without signal on the road the app goes dead
The core pain hits during the trip itself: without internet the app won't load data or routes, and the promised premium offline maps can't be found. It dies exactly where it's needed most.
I paid for full membership under the impression I can use the ap offline as a GPS... not. If you aren't online you have nothing. misleading advertising.
Doesn't load data or iteneraries on mobile networks making the app entirely useless when on a roadtrip. Cannot download maps in a useful or meaningful way.
There's no "offline" mode. If you're without cell coverage or Wi-Fi, the app doesn't work.
Forced AI autopilot instead of manual planning — and it doesn't work
Many users want to pick their own route and stops, but the app pushes an AI «autopilot» that frequently freezes or errors out. Experienced travelers say flatly: «I do not want you to plan my trip».
Will not let me plan a trip unless I use its bs AI tool. Uninstall forever.
The"AI autopilot" function, which automatically plans out your trip for you, doesn't work.
I DO NOT Want You TO Plan My TRIP!. I know where I'm going. I want to research it myself, pick my own SPOT.
The absorbed Campendium got worse — RVers lost their favorite data
Roadtrippers absorbed Campendium and, in users' eyes, ruined it: free overnight spots (Walmart, rest areas, churches) vanished, the Campendium Android app was dropped, and campground data thinned out. A distinct pain for the RV community.
the latest release has destroyed Campendium best features!
Roadtrippers is ruining Campendium & its data by reducing services (even from paying customers). They took away Campendium on Android (no longer supported!?).
After Campendium moved to another app and then Roadtrippers it became absolutely useless. Campendium was great to see all the amenities nearby.
Reordering stops and setting dates is agonizing
Dragging stops barely works — they don't move or jump too far; new points land at the top of the list instead of the bottom; and one long stay auto-rewrites the dates of every stop after it. A simple route edit becomes a fight.
this new update (5/14) makes it nearly impossible to rearrange your stops. You drag, they don't move, and if they do, it's way too far up or down.
As I add destinations, it puts the location at the top of the itinerary. I want it to add to the bottom!
You can't set the length of stay. When you are staying somewhere for a week every other stop on your list automatically changes the dates
Worse than free Google Maps at its core job — finding interesting stops
The paid app's paradox: it suggests only chains like Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, shows attractions at the destination instead of along the way, and serves stale data. Again and again the conclusion is the same — Google Maps does it better, for free.
Expensive, klunky, and less capable than Google Maps at finding interesting locations.
Only shows things to do near my destination. I already know what's THERE, that's why I planned a trip there. What I need is ideas for places to stop on the way, and it never shows me that. Useless.
I'm not paying for a fancy Google maps.
