Sports Tracker reviews

What users love and hate, from real reviews

A GPS-tracking veteran beloved since the Nokia era for its simplicity and privacy, but recent updates have locked basic features behind a subscription, broken route recording, and added intrusive location collection.

What users love

When it works, the best private tracker earning 10+ years of loyalty

The core love is alive: people have logged activities with this app since the Nokia days, for 10–14 years, prizing its simplicity, accuracy and privacy-by-default. Zoomable graphs, the workout calendar, photos pinned to the route map — many call it better than Strava.

This app is designed for tracking & analysis and using it as a social media is only optional. Unlike the main competitor, privacy is the default. This makes it much more suitable for athletes who just want to track their progress with no BS.

So much better than Strava! I've been using it about 14 years now and it's never let me down. Top features for me are great graphs that are zoomable and the workout calendar

Best fitness tracking app I've come across. Keeps track of all I need when cycling and hiking. It makes Google Fit look like amateur hour.

Weak spots

What users hate

Long-free core features got moved behind a paywall

What enrages users most isn't the subscription itself but that it walls off things that were free for years: route comparison, maps, progress, audio cues. Many would pay a one-off fee but not a monthly one for what used to be included.

they made all relevant stats PREMIUM. You want to compare how you did on the same route, you pay premium. You want to know if u r making progress, u pay premium. U want to see the map of ur workouts, u pay premium.

It's not as if the developer added new features as premium options but instead took free things I was used to and put them behind the paywall.

Every single feature is slowly becoming "premium only". Used to be the best free fitness tracker, now any useful insights require you to pay.

Tracking dies mid-workout and loses the route

The most common failure: recording just stops mid-run or walk, leaving half the distance or nothing at all. It's often blamed on power saving, but people disable everything they can and nothing helps.

way too often just stops tracking in the middle of exercise [2024], now 2026 dropping to 1 star, Samsung/Androids, very unreliable.

since last week the app just stops tracking. Battery mode is adjusted to not close app, just like before when it still worked. Very annoying. Changing to a different app now.

today I walked 2.23 and it never recorded, apart from 50 m when I got home....fuming !

Constant 'always' location demands feel like surveillance

The app demands location access even when not in use and spams pop-ups at every screen unlock. People check and see it really pings GPS in the background for no reason — hurting battery and trust.

the app constantly and i mean NON STOP keeps pushing you to buy the premium. you will be interrupted by premium pop ups almost every minute. also if you do not allow the app to track you 24/7, it will keep reminding you every time you go to an different app and back.

Shocked to find out the app is still accessing my location every half to an hour despite not tracking or even opening the app. No other app that I used does this.

They now require access to your GPS data even when the app is not in use, as well as access to your health information—terms that are vague and invasive. This is an unacceptable overreach

Forces a login every single time you open it

A recent update stopped remembering the login: the app demands sign-in on every open, which means it's unusable without internet. For tracking in the mountains or woods off-grid this is a flat-out dealbreaker.

Used to be good, but has become completely useless now that it requires a new login EVERY time the app is opened.

Now have to log in everytime to use. Dealbreaker if not in a location without data or internet.

now app is automatically logging me out so can't log in if I don't have Internet connection! CRAZY!!!!

Locking audio feedback behind premium stings the most

Audio cues for distance and pace were free since the very first version, and their move to premium is named more than any other loss. For runners it was the key 'don't look at your phone' feature, and removing it feels like a slap to loyal users.

One star for making Audio feedback a premium feature. It has been free since the first version of the app years ago. Very disappointing.

After decades of use with many marathons and ultras and paying in past for premium when my financial situation was better, the thank you, was blocking audio feedback behind a subscription paywall

I used this exclusively for a few years to track thousands of miles of hiking. The audio feedback portion has been moved behind a pay wall. Guess I'll move on to another app.

Distance and route come out inaccurate

The GPS either undercounts distance many times over or draws straight lines and 'flights' over buildings. Ran 7 km, got 1.2; walked the same trail two days running and got different numbers. For an app whose one job is measuring distance, that's fatal.

I ran 7 km this app states I went 1.2 km, useless

I ran 800 meters and it shows 1400 meters.

It does track the proper path and draws a straight line on my covered path.

Crashes on screen lock and newer Android

After a screen lock or incoming call the workout is often lost for good, and on Android 16 and Pixel the GPS only connects intermittently. Crashes that lose half the route and login errors (1014, 1414) finish off an already fragile stability.

I start recording a workout. After the screen lock, the recording is lost forever. I upgraded to latest version and still does the same thing. Canceling my subscription

the Sports Tracker apps only connects with the GPS intermittently. One a run, the numbers and times are greyed out for at least half the time.

crashes with error 1414 trying to login. used to be good now a big flop!!

The UI redesign turned manual entry into torture

After the 2026 update manual workout entry broke: dates shift by a day, a roller instead of a keyboard, zeros instead of blank fields, edits won't save. Long-time users for whom the app 'suited really well' are stunned by the regression.

when inputting manual data, it will overwrite information, you have to open and edit twice. you have to select the day AFTER your manual input to get the correct day.

The dates for the exercises are off by a day when you manually put an exercise in it sets the start time as when you entered it instead of the end time. The roller for duration sucks

ALL of my past workouts are one date off on the calendar, and I can't add my distance after a treadmill workout anymore. I also hate the roller for entering my time rather than just typing it in.

No way to edit or trim a recorded route

If you forget to stop recording and get in a car or train, the route gets ruined by a 70mph 'flight', and you can't fix the start/end — only delete the whole workout. A simple track edit has topped the wishlist for years and still isn't there.

I know it's on me, but sometimes i forget to stop Sports tracker from tracking until I use it the next day. My walking route would have a max speed of like 70mph. Not cool. I just want to change where it starts/ends.

Great app, but I really wish there was a way to change the end of a tracked moment in case you forgot to set stop and you got on a train and now you walked at 100km/h

Cant edit route. Sat 2 km in the car and now there is 2 unrealistc 60km/h hiking speed.

Won't play with third-party HR sensors and watches

Many popular chest straps — Polar H10, Wahoo Tickr X — won't pair, and some data is even hidden behind an ad for Suunto's own belt. There's no WearOS or Samsung-watch app, cutting off a whole audience.

Almost every bit of data is hidden behind an ad for a heart rate belt, even on Premium. Without the 80€ heart rate monitor you only get time, distance and a map. So no top speeds, altimeter data, nothing.

It worked with my old Wahoo Tickr but not the Tickr X or the Polar H10. The app should be able to use any heart rate sensor that isn't using a proprietary connection.

I bought a new polar chest strap (H9) and they do not allow to pair it :) Hugely disappointed

Support is silent and the app feels abandoned

Emails and bug reports go unanswered for years, at best an AI template replies. Refunds for non-working premium drag on for months, and the lack of new features amid rising prices suggests the app is quietly dying like Endomondo.

I’ve been waiting for a refund for a premium account THAT DOESN’T WORK for 3 months now (September 2025) and now they’re pretending I’ve never even submitted a claim.

Tried contacting support but I've never received a reply to any question. Seriously wondering if "Sports-Tracker" actually exist any more or whether there is just a zombie site now.

Used to be the best, now it's abandonware.
