Timesheet - Work Hours Tracker reviews
What users love and hate · 500 reviews analyzed · ★ 4.6
A deep work-hours tracker with billing and invoicing for freelancers and contractors — beloved for years for its offline simplicity, now torn between its 'pay once, own forever' promise and a flood of aggressive ads and paywalled extras.
What users love
Years of reliability as a simple offline timesheet with no account
The core value is simplicity and stability: people track hours for 5+ years, love that it works fully offline with no cloud or login, and rely on the punch-in/out button and widget for a quick start.
Timesheet app has always worked flawlessly for me for more than 5 years. It's simple and it works.
does the job without requiring any account creation and works completely offline. it has all the functionalities that you would expect from a tracking app. I love the widget
no complicated cloud services nor login credentials. Simple to use yet feature packed.
Invoices and automatic earnings calc save a ton of time
For freelancers and contractors the killer benefit is that the app calculates earnings, overtime and holiday pay itself, and turns punches into a professional invoice you send and mark paid in one tap.
Saved me from so much time creating an invoice. Punching in and out and putting in my details creates my invoice when I'm ready for whichever time period.
Calculates billing, overtime, holiday pay - all for me, so I don't have to worry about anything but putting in my hours
easy to use, and love how it auto calculates earnings. makes invoicing and tracking expenses and earnings all at once very easy.
Flexibility across many clients, rates and pay types
A standout for complex billing: different rates and flat/hourly per client, billable and non-billable lines, multi-project tracking — users say flat-out that other apps can't do this.
I can create flat rate or hourly PER CLIENT! I can insert billable and non-billable lines to keep track of everything!
This is the best time sheet app for people who work multiple pay scales throughout the day. all of the 10 other apps I've tried can't do what this one can!
Easy to use and keeps good track of all my client and contract types, from one offs to hourly to retainer types.
A responsive developer who actually ships requests
A rare asset for a niche app — the developer corresponds with users directly, fixes bugs within a couple of days, and incorporates ALL the suggestions people raise, which deepens loyalty.
The developer incorporated ALL of the previous suggestions that I had.
an email was sent to the Developer. He was quick with communications and within a couple of days, with the new version release, the issue was fixed.
The development team are extremely proactive when it comes to fixing bugs. I've only experienced one in 2+ years of usage.
What users hate
Ads took over the app even for people who already paid
Users who paid years ago for 'pro' or a one-off upgrade suddenly saw large banners covering up to half the screen, plus a new offer to pay again to remove them — read by many as a bait-and-switch.
Even after you pay for the upgrade, they still spam you with ads.
I paid for and used this app for years, now, suddenly, there are large ads that cover half of the screen and a new option to pay even more to remove ads again. I do not appreciate the bait and switch.
Still getting ads in paid version October 2025.
Logged hours vanish — and it wrecks invoicing
Sudden data loss — after an update, a reinstall, or just out of nowhere — is the most painful failure: people can't invoice clients because worked shifts disappear from the calendar, sometimes even with a backup in place.
all my previous clocked jobs/times where gone which caused an issue invoicing a few customers
had been good. but currently my hrs have all disappeared... could make invoicing this month very hard
This app is no longer keeping my daily time. I've clocked in multiple times over the last 2 weeks and now I can't find my house.
Restore from Google Drive often fails when switching phones
Moving to a new device is a weak spot: the Google Drive backup won't import back, auto-sync between phone and tablet fails, and 'restored successfully' sometimes brings back nothing.
it's not bad until you need to change phone then all your is Google drive and you can't import it back.
I got a message that said "data restored successfully" but, none of my data was put onto the new phone
recently I can not get it to sync between my tablet and phone. the auto sync does not work.
Paid once — yet asked to pay again
The 'not a subscription, just a one-off payment' promise doesn't hold: people hit the invoice fee again, discover a £15.99 surcharge to share Excel files, and can't tell 'No General Ads' from 'No All Ads' — the monetization is confusing and stacked in tiers.
It clearly states, 'This is not a subscription, but a once-off payment'. About a month went by and I needed to use the app again to generate an invoice and again I needed to pay the 'once-off' fee
there are purchases and then more purchases , another £15.99 just to share excel files , not happy about being played
I just don't understand how the upgrade works because it says "No General Ads" and "No All Ads".
A hidden paid trial: 'free' turns into a costly trap
The app looks free, and only after sinking days into setup does the user find buried in a menu that it's a trial — with a 'pro' price (around $37) that feels several times too high for a phone app.
It acts like it's free, but buried in a menu you find that after you've put in the time to set it up and get used to it for 10 days, it's actually just a trial and it's actually really expensive.
The only problem with the update is that the ads are very intrusive. I would gladly purchase the pro version if it was priced appropriately. $37 is just simply far too much (~ 4x) for a phone app.
And what they want for pro or no ads version is ridiculous.
Updates break what worked fine for years
Recent updates bring regressions: date sorting removed, the date picker now covers the whole screen, punch-out loops entries into a 9-to-5, and old version 13.2 is the only one where the timer notification still works.
removed functionality, I used to be able to sort by date, genuinely considering moving to another system to track hours
last update made app very buggy and more confusing : Selecting dates is buggy, confusing, and don't want it to cover the whole screen prefer a small pop up.
when I close out, I have to do it several times, and only one is correct. the others are automatically set for 9 to 5, and they keep going.
Overtime and night-shift math doesn't work as expected
There are gaps under the hood: overtime won't calculate or works incorrectly, a 18:00–06:00 night shift is read as one giant day, and OT isn't pooled across multiple projects for the same client.
Great for basic time but won't calculate overtime.
the app doesnt understand that from 18 to 6 am is nightshift, he instead thinks that i started working at 18 and ended at 6
The Overtime feature is not working properly, there's only 3 inputs for taxes
Power comes at a setup cost — and there's no iOS version
The depth of features comes with a learning curve: initial setup is involved and unintuitive, it's overkill for simple needs, and what users call the best app of its kind can't be installed on iPhone.
a little too complicated for my needs. e.g. I don't want to log a project name with every entry
The app is a little complicated and not very intuatively set up
Love this app!!! Wish they had an iOS version for my work phone. All iOS timesheet apps are trash compared to this gem
