TripIt reviews

What users love and hate, from real reviews

TripIt pulls every trip booking into one tidy timeline by auto-parsing your confirmation emails — yet over the past year that very magic, and even logging in, keeps failing, often precisely when you need the app most: mid-trip.

What users love

When it works it's the best trip organizer: everything in one place, auto-from-email, indispensable for years

What people love: forward your emails and get a tidy timeline of all flights, hotels and bookings in one place, available offline and shared with family. Dozens of 10-15-year users call it indispensable — "practically more important than my passport."

it's practically more important than my passport. I can't conceive of travelling without it. it's a must-have

You simply forward your confirmation emails to Tripit and they construct your itinerary in a seamless, easy to read format.

I love that I don't have to look around for several different emails to find all the confirmations for hotel, rental car, and flights. All of them are in one place for the whole trip.

Pro pays for itself in real money: refunds on price drops and compensation for delays

For some users Pro tangibly justifies its price: it monitors fare drops and helps claim a travel credit for the difference, secures compensation for excessive delays, and at the airport surfaces gates and baggage carousel faster than the boards themselves.

It has paid for itself several times over by notifying me when prices drop on one of my travel plans and I've been able to get a travel credit or refund for the difference.

Tripit keeps me up to date on my trips and has successfully negotiated compensation for me in the case of excessive flight delays!

Amazingly helpful way to automatically organize all of your travel. it also basically pays for itself by monitoring lower fares in getting you that savings by rebooking with your airline.

Past trips and the memories in them — the reason people stay for years

A strength for long-time users: TripIt keeps a full history of trips with notes, addresses and phone numbers — years later you can revisit it "like a second vacation." It turns a utilitarian organizer into a personal travel archive.

Months or years later I can revisit the trip on Tripit & it's like a second vacation there. It really helps jog your memories.

I love this app! I especially love that you can keep old trips here!!

your travel history is a simple push of a button. I love the app.

Weak spots

What users hate

Login dies on an "unexpected error" — reinstalling and resetting the password don't help

The single most common complaint: tapping sign-in throws "An unexpected error occurred" and goes no further, even though the same account opens fine on the website. People reinstall and reset passwords to no avail, losing access to years of saved trips.

I tried to log in and "An unexpected error occurred" is all it says, every time. I can log into Tripit on the website, but the app keeps failing. I even tried resetting my password, which was just a waste of time because the app still won't log in.

an unexpected error occurred is all I get when trying to sign in. has never worked

stopped working. reinstall doesn't help. useless now. "unexpected error has occurred" with any sign in method.

Fails exactly mid-trip: internal server error on travel day, access returns once you're home

The vault for all your tickets and bookings quits at the worst possible moment — at immigration or on departure day: "internal server error," app won't open. Several users spotted the pattern: it breaks precisely on travel days and recovers afterward.

The app never works during the actual trip. Like clockwork, the app returns an internal server error on the day of the trip. The app resumes working normally after the last day of the trip.

unreliable I use this to hold all my flight and hotel details. When it was urgently needed it FAILED. Refused to open. Unexpected error. Not what you need when you are standing in front of immigration.

Getting internal server errors while traveling today. Kind of worthless that when I need the app (and paid for it) it doesn't work.

Random sign-outs every few days kill the core value prop — "everything at hand"

The app logs you out on its own — sometimes every few days, sometimes mid-action — forcing a fresh login. Users rightly wonder why data isn't cached locally: if you can't depend on it, the whole convenience value evaporates.

Used go be a good app, now whenever I sign in and click anything, I get automatically signed out. My app is the latest version and fully up to date but useless if I can only stare at the home screen.

This app has one glaring defect that is fatal. It will at times sign you out and then not let you access your info until you sign back in.

The app keep logging out automatically every few days...so annoying.

The auto-parsing of emails — the whole reason to use TripIt — increasingly fails

The headline feature — forward an email, get a ready itinerary item — has decayed: it misses bookings even from major vendors (AirBNB, Cathay Pacific, Accor), reads only the first flight leg, ignores PDFs. You end up entering everything by hand, defeating the point.

I forwarded 8 emails with various transport, accommodation, and events and Tripit didn't recognise a single one of them! I have to enter all the information manually and it doesn't even extract the PDF attachments so I even have to do that manually!

The srvc is supposed to autoparse trip plans sent by email. That often FAILS; even from 'wellknown' vendors (e.g., AirBNB). Manual (re)entry is required.

It reads the first leg of the flight and the rest is lost. Adding flights manually is a poor experience

Pro subscribers get no delay or gate-change alerts — the very thing they pay for

Paid Pro promises live flight updates, yet people sit delayed on the tarmac, have five emails from the airline, and TripIt still shows "on-time." Gate and delay alerts arrive late or never — so what is the $99/year for.

Pro subscriber. No flight update alerts. Sitting here after 5 emails regarding weather delays from my airline over the last 2+ hrs, not a single update from TripIt, and app still shows flight as "on-time".

I've used this app for over 10 years and really appreciate how easy it is to organize my travel. However, I can no longer trust the app's flight statuses.

If your flight is delayed, it won't tell you, it will just quietly update your itinerary.

Sign-up trips over the password: "too weak" or "doesn't match our records" on a brand-new account

People can't even create an account: the page rejects passwords as not complex enough (even 20-character ones), and on sign-up throws the absurd "email/password doesn't match our records" — for a new account that doesn't exist yet. Many quit right here.

I select CREATE AN ACCOUNT, and when I add my information, it says my info doesn't match their records. ITS A NEW ACCOUNT !!!

Couldn't get past the create a password. Everything I tried returned a use a stronger password message.

when creating acoount,Keep showing"The email address and/or password you entered does not match our records. Passwords are cAsE sEnSiTiVe." what the....

Demands for full name, DOB and inbox access read as surveillance and intrusion

To keep using it, the app suddenly demands date of birth, full name and address, and above all — standing access to your entire inbox. Users read this as a privacy invasion ("reads every email"), threaten regulator complaints, and uninstall.

This is the most intrusive app I have ever used. Be advised that it will read every single email you send and receive.

started using it and two weeks later they are forcing me to add dob, full name and address to keep using the app. Why does an app that organizes map locations need to verify my identity?

It used to be an excellent app, but is now mostly invasive malware. I can not use the app without being harassed to let it have access to my email.

Geo-blocking locks out travelers: "unavailable in your region" mid-trip, with no VPN on

A paradox for a travel app: login is blocked by country/region — users in the US, Asia, Canada are told the service isn't available there, sometimes even with the VPN off. It cuts people off from their own itineraries exactly when they're actually traveling.

Can't log in anymore because apparently the app does not allow users from the United States to use this app despite the app developer being in the US.

The website won't let me log in, saying I'm trying to log in from an ineligible country. I'm in the US, and my VPN is off.

Access denied for several months... Why? Your website/app don't work in Asia

Editing an itinerary is painful: can't delete a part, duplicate conflicts won't resolve, sharing breaks

When auto-import fails, manual management becomes a slog: you can't delete a single item without nuking the whole trip, updates pile up as duplicates with unresolvable "conflicts," and an invited traveler can't link the shared trip to their account.

I had to delete an entire trip because changes to the original flight couldn't be updated or even deleted without deleting everything.

When importing updated itineraries it's unable to see that it is an update, so just adds the update. There's no way to tell which is the correct / latest update, making the itinerary useless.

my wife created a trip but I can't link it to my account in the app. yes, she has shared it with me, etc... This makes the app useless.

Pro pricing repels: ~$50-99/year for what used to be free, many call it a rip-off

Many balk that useful features (gates, airport maps, updates) moved behind a $49-99/year Pro that used to be free. The free tier now feels like an empty duplicate of an itinerary, and the price is called astronomical.

I was told that all the features moved to the annual pay version. not paying $99/ year for what used to be free.

but the £49 yearly subscription is simply too much; it's priced astronomically over-priced.

Non-pro has little value, and Pro is too expensive. You can add trips, but you won't get notified of changes.
