YAZIO Fasting reviews
What users love and hate, from real reviews
A powerful calorie and intermittent-fasting tracker with a huge food database and a beautiful interface that its own developers keep burying under ads, subscription nags, and gamification updates — to the fury of long-time users.
What users love
A huge food database and convenient search — the main reason to stay
Even the angriest reviewers admit it: Yazio's food database is huge, you can find almost anything, plus you can create custom meals and scan barcodes. It's the reason people endure the ads and stay, calling the database the best thing about the app.
the reason this app is getting 2 stars is ONLY because they have a good food selection you can find anything
Great food tracker, but buried with annoying gimmicks. Database is solid, barcode scanning works well
I use Yazio because it's the most popular app therefore it has a bigger database of ready products than other ones... Which is great.
A pretty, simple, intuitive interface that genuinely helps people lose weight
Under the layer of ads sits a beautifully made, simple, pleasant tracker that people actually lose weight with — 9 to 21 kg in a couple of months, streaks of 150+ days. For many it was a years-long favorite, and they cling to it regardless.
Using this app has made being in a calorie deficit so much easier. 2 months in and 21 pounds down!
its been great and ive been using it daily for 150 days. lose around 9kg of weight since. all the functions are useful, intuitive and generally great.
after a long time, an app finally pleased me. it has a lot of features for free. and using it is also so easy. i love it
When you get past the bots, support replies fast and actually solves things
Despite a wall of AI chatbot, Yazio's human support exists and works: people flip an angry review to 5 stars after a fast reply, a refund, or a bug fix — often within ten minutes.
UPDATE: Support was very quick. I have forced to use ENGLISH language in the app even I have English system language in my phone. It helped. Thanks a lot.
the team replied within 10 minutes
their online support team are helpful and will respond to emails
Yazio does listen: a snooze for tips appeared — and ratings climbed back
Some criticism doesn't fall on deaf ears: the developers added a "snooze tips for 2 weeks" option and a way to skip the post-scan hints almost entirely — and several users publicly raised their rating, noting logging is enjoyable again.
Amended my rating, because they finally added the option to skip the tips almost completely. Otherwise, I love this app.
Nice 👍 thx for adding the option to skip the food tips after scanning !! Logging makes way more fun now again.
update: just got an update that lets you snooze the mealtips for 2 weeks. i increases the rating by 1 star!
What users hate
Ads are pinned to the moment of logging — the very action that builds the habit
The free tier's monetization is strategically self-defeating: ads fire not on a session timer but after every food entry — 1-2 full-screen clips (dismissable only by opening a Play Store page) plus premium screens. Yazio thus drowns in ads the exact action that should become a habit — logging. A 10-second entry stretches into minutes, the new user never feels the product's value, and leaves: impression revenue kills activation.
Every single time I logged a food I was pushed into a video ad followed by a Yazio ad to buy premium
you get 1 or 2 full screen ads which are very intrusive (i.e. you need to open the Play Store page of advertised app to skip it)
Every entry you make you have to sit trough 2 video ads and then 4 tabs of Yazio ads promoting their premium plan
Duolingo-style gamification annoys even paying users
Streaks, a yeti mascot, chests, diamonds, and an "I'm committed" screen on every launch turned a simple tracker into a clingy game. There's no way to switch it off even with premium, and long-time subscribers leave repeating one thing: "Don't be Duolingo."
screw all these forced popups and the candy-crush level gamification, man. I want an adult calorie counter app, not Farmville
Worse than duolingo, stupid gamification.
I don't need streaks -I don't need all these animations -I don't want meal tips I just want a functional app to track everything
An endless onboarding survey scares people off before they ever reach the app
Before the first use you must answer dozens of personal questions (down to "how many kids you have" and "which clothes you'd wear after losing weight"), you can't skip them, and at the end there's a paywall and a discount wheel. Many uninstall mid-signup.
Before you can use the app, you have to answer 50 stupid questions. They even ask, how many kids you have. This is definitely not relevant for counting calories!!!
25 minutes of unskippable questions. I ended up deleting the app after finishing the questions
five minutes of inane questions (such as which clothes i'd like to wear after i've lost weight) after which there's three different 'pay for premium!' screens and an unskippable wheel of fortune
Animations and meal tips can't be turned off, even with premium
After every logged meal there's a screen of slow animations and "meal tips" you have to wait through or click away. Users have begged for a toggle in settings for years — Yazio's answer is that it's "by design."
PLEASE NO MORE ANIMATIONS AND TIPS, it's so annoying to pay for these annoyances. I just want to track food
I don't want meal tips I just want a functional app to track everything with as minimal time necessary
They even respond it's "by design". (Bad design!)
AI photo recognition systematically underestimates calories
The headline feature — calories from a photo — consistently misses, underestimating by 30-40% versus manual entry and barely knowing non-European cuisines. You can't correct the scan, so people end up entering everything by hand — after paying for the AI.
AI scan is broken and hinders progress. It consistently underestimates calories by 30–40% compared to manual ingredient entry. Correcting the scan doesn't fix it.
When I take a picture of a meal it missess by 200 kcal. Just so frustrating, in the end I have to input all of it manually.
The AI gets 2/3 of the ingredients wrong, I always just rewrite the text to tell it what I'm eating
The May 2026 update took the app down: "no internet" on a working Wi-Fi
After the April-May 2026 update, paying users couldn't log food for whole days: the app demands a constant connection, throws "no internet" on working Wi-Fi plus 502/412 errors, and there's no offline mode or status page.
What’s up with the May 2026 update? Nothing loads, I can’t log data! Why does it need internet 24/7 just to log food?
something is wrong and it says my data couldn't be loaded due to no internet connection although im connected to WIFI
The app becomes completely useless when the servers are down. Why am I paying for this sht?
Replacing manual entry with an AI chat and the redesign broke the familiar workflow
Recent updates removed the "add manually" button in favor of AI text, buried Recently/Frequent/Favorites inside a dropdown, and swapped icons for menus — so a simple action now takes several extra clicks. Long-time users are furious.
the latest updating replacing the "add manually" with a text AI! I'm still not talking about camera tracking! You took away, you removed manual tracking!
the app is amazing, but WHY did u remove the option to manually enter a meal with its calories?? that feature needs to return ASAP.
Now we have to use dropdown menus instead of icons. Very annoying.
The onboarding survey repeats every time you pause for a few days
Skip the app for a few days and on return it drags you back through the same long survey about weight and goals, with no skip option. It happens even to paying users and feels like punishment for using it irregularly.
it is very annoying that every time you don't use it for a few days, it forces you to answer a long string of stupid questions. And I use the paid app!
it's incredibly annoying to have to do the quiz over and over again when you forget to log for a few days!
wenn man für eine Woche die app nicht nutzt und diese startet, stellt die app dieselben Fragen wie vom Anfang und das nervt auf Dauer
The AI "tips" pressure your eating and trigger disorders
The mascot and AI critique your food choices after every meal and push you to "swap for something healthier" with no context, which for people with eating disorders feels insulting and drags them back to dark days. Requests for an off toggle are ignored.
How to delete this stupid insights feature? It is incrediably rude and mean. This is disgusting. For my own money this feature is insulting me every day.
all it does is trigger eating disorders. edit support is just more AI and my concerns abt eating disorders bc of the 'tips' is ignored
The advice from a mascot to change foods I like to something healthier sends me straight to my ed days.
Double-counting steps and calories — dangerous for anyone tracking a deficit
When syncing with trackers, Yazio counts activity twice (both phone steps and watch data), inflating burned calories by up to ~1000 kcal. For an app people rely on to stay in a deficit, that's a direct risk of overeating.
Yazio counts steps double, thus skewing the results by up to 1000kcal. I'm switching to Lifesum today.
it counted my calories burnt twice, from my jogging activity and step count. It dangerous. Makes me want to eat more
used to be great app, but now it doesn't even sync with my smart watch so I can't get accurate calories spent
The fasting timer decides when to end and won't let you edit the past
The very reason people install it — the intermittent-fasting tracker — is half-baked: it's locked to the chosen fasting type and ends your fast for you, with no way to set the real start/end or edit past entries, even on the paid plan.
instead of letting us select when it starts and when it ends all the time, it takes the time/type of fasting to a T and ends your fasting for you. also, you can't backtrack it to edit past information
the fasts thing is incredibly broken and not useable. can't even tell it when you've started/ended without it changing the times
i fasted for 20 hours and wanted to fast for a bit more, but the timer started again so i lost my progress
Basic analytics and data export are locked away or simply missing
Even paying users can't export their data (no API or file export for a doctor), weight history is trimmed, and weekly/monthly nutrient summaries simply don't exist — for a tracker, that reads as a missing core feature.
the lack of an option to access my data for further analysis, whether through an API or a file export, is really disappointing
it is impossible to get weekly or monthly reports of nutrition listing
the view for logged body weight is limit to 2 years. Why not show all entries?
