An envelope-budgeting app with a web version and shared access — for families and couples who plan spending using the envelope method.
What users love
Bank-free envelope method — the main reason people love it
You sort money into virtual envelopes by hand, with no bank account linked; it keeps you inside your budget and makes you accountable for every purchase
If you want an app that holds your hand, looks pretty and dumb and automatically syncs to bank accounts and does it all for you, this is not for you. This is an app for people who want to have their hands IN their budgeting. I LOVE this app, I LOVE the layout (I am an excel lover) and I use it every single day for every single transaction.
I like how we can just use it without going crazy with bank accounts and stuff. can you please add something like swipe down if you're already at the top to sync? we have to bounce around random screens to try to get it to sync.
Fantastic budgeting app. I was looking for one that didn't require me to connect my accounts, and this has been perfect. After using it a couple of weeks, I paid for the subscription and am on my second year with it.
Shared budget for couples and families across devices in real time
Husband and wife run one budget; edits by one show up instantly on every device, handy for joint expenses
My spouse and I have used this app for over a decade. It works! I recommend it.
Great app, but it is extremely expensive (A big problem for me, as I live in the 3rd world) and on top of that, does not feature a lifetime membership. I do not use the multiple devices thing at all, so I wish there was a way to pay once to have premium benefits forever, even if I have to forfeit the online aspects. Also, I wish it had percentage distribution instead of just set amounts. For examp
I can't use for multiple devices .... I thought we can use this app by entire family members on same account....
People budget for years and genuinely save money
Folks use it for 5-10 years and longer (going back to the EEBA days); it runs reliably and helps pay off debt and build savings
My spouse and I have used this app for over a decade. It works! I recommend it.
I've been using this app for over a decade now. I manually balance my bank accounts every month so I know exactly what I have to spend in each envelope. No overdrafts! Love the 20 free envelopes only wish I could use them how I wanted instead of 10 monthly and 10 goals, just characterized to my needs. Otherwise a great app
I SERIOUSLY love my EEBA (Now GoodBudget)!! It has helped me be more attentive to the way I manage my finances and my overall budget!! Edit: It has been years now since I've been using that and I still cannot add my debt transactions through the application. I have to go to the website... come on developers!! Five star review to two stars!!
Simple, clear interface: a purchase is added in a couple of taps
Clean layout, nothing extra, doesn't treat the user as dumb; logging a purchase takes a couple of taps
This is a great east to use budget app for simple everyday budget tracking needs.
Brilliant app, also omg no ads !!! such a relief. Basic version is very good at keeping track of simple expenses and the full version has all the stuff needed to keep track of multiple accounts. The design is simplistic, a bit old fashioned, but this makes the usability great (I don't need fancy animations or so for bookkeeping).
Simple app, but is there a way to change the date setting for envelope refills to be done on the 25 of every month?
Splitting one purchase across envelopes and moving money between them
A single payment can be split across several envelopes (the app does the math), and if an envelope is empty you can move money in from another
An excellent all with only a few missing features. This app puts budgeting front and center, but it also allows you to track payees and to split transactions, among other helpful features. So many other apps were missing at least one feature. There are a few drawbacks. The account totals can take a while to update, which can be disorienting. Support for multiple currencies and the ability to attac
I thought you could actually transfer money from bank to envelopes, they need to have an app tht does that
I've tried several budgeting apps and this is by far the best! I love the concept of virtual envelopes! The ability to split one transaction into multiple envelopes is such a time saver - it even calculates it for me! Love this app!!
No ads — people single this out as a relief
There are no ads in the app — against other free apps people call this a big plus

I've been using this app for years. I honestly can't believe how much it's helped me in staying on track. I tried other similar apps and deleted them. This one is so simple to use without unnecessary stuff and no ads. I don't use it with my bank acct so I can't say how that function works. It keeps my day to day spending in check. It's habit to use the app for every purchase that I'd be lost witho
no import. no bank sync. no export even, apparently. totally lock in. the free version will be enough, until it isn't. it's as free as a free joint. at least there are no ads...
The widget is loved for quick entry, but it's dated and can't resize
The widget lets you add a purchase straight from the home screen
Love it!! Please add more widgets. Like one that shows your balances, ect. Pleaseee!!!
WIDGETEDBACKWIDGETED
App and widget keep crashing. Edit: I've given 4 stars because of the super quick response. However, I've reinstalled the app a few times but still crashing. Also still unable to set the widget on my phone. Will wait a while and try again.
Tutorial videos and fast support replies rescue the rating
Those who watched the videos and emailed support note replies within a day and often raise their rating back up
I like this app a little bit. Pretty good for tracking expenses, but setting up the monthly budget/envelopes is very difficult for me. Trying to allocate my income to the envelopes is messy. Seems like to make a change, it takes me back to the beginning and I either screw it up or get duplicate allocations. It's hard for me to find the budget amounts and make changes. I'm frustrated with it right

App not user friendly and customer service is bad. It maybe easy to setup the initial envelopes and make entries, but if you plan on using this for more than a month-expect to be told to read their instruction manuals and watch the YouTube videos because simple answers are not available. All I wanted to do was autofill my envelopes past a month but the customer service rep/tech's basic answer was
What users hate
The free cap of 10 envelopes feels too tight
Only 10 envelopes are free; that isn't enough for a detailed budget, so you have to merge categories or pay

Excellent app. Set up envelope, fill it with funds, spend your funds. When envelope runs out, stop spending. Super easy to understand. You get 10 free envelopes for free on monthly and another 10 for annual cycles. It even has hashtags to monitor expenses across envelopes. It also has reports so you'll see charts and graphs. Login in app or web. Web interface is easier to use when setting up. I ho
You're limited to only ten "envelopes" each month, so you have to consolidate bills together, which kinda defeats the whole tracking everything idea.
An unfinished entry is wiped when you switch to another app
If you leave a half-filled form to open a calculator or banking app and come back, everything you typed is reset
Rather frustrating to use for a few reasons. You can't change your income at a later date to reflect income changes and you cannot open a different app - such as a calculator app - without any unsaved progress being entirely wiped out. I'm talking a 'start from square 1' level of data being wiped out. If you enjoy being fruatrated; this is the budget app for you!
Good basic functionality but a lot of rough edges: - account balance doesn't update after account transfers entered until returning to the account page - draft entries in forms often get cleared when switching to other apps and back (very annoying when checking transaction details!) - occasional glitches when editing transactions For how simple this app is and how much they charge for a subscripti
Been using the application for a year, and will continue using it. Quite good tool for budgeting. It has one infuriating bug. It happens when filling any inputs in the application, and I switch from the application to another. For example when I want to check the exact sum of money spent from my banking application. Goodbudget empties/forgets EVERY single input I had already filled. It drives me m
The transaction list jumps back to the top when you edit
After every change the transaction list collapses to the start; reconciling a month means scrolling all over again — annoying, and unfixed for years
I love this app, it was a game changer for staying on budget, but I hate that when I scroll down in my transactions, it jumps back to the top. I have to scroll down twice for it to stay. And if I toggle between apps (my credit card app, for example, to add transactions to good budget), it jumps to back to the top again. Very frustrating when I am trying to determine which transactions have not bee
Please fix this damn behavior already that it starts from the last entry (top of the list) after each refresh. That happens now multiple times during an edit which is highly annoying and not productive. After 2 years, still not fixed... Just added 6 entries and now it is also forgetting in which category a store has to go although all went into the same
We've used it now for a few years and are miles ahead in our finances. I would say the only real downfall is that if you're going through Goodbudget and rectifying it against your back statement, if you make a change to an amount, or add a forgotten one, it'll scroll all of the way back up to the top. It can be very frustrating if you're reviewing a whole month and it goes back to the top. Other t
Half the actions can't be done in the app — you're pushed to the website
Logging income, paying off debt, transferring between accounts, importing CSV all have to be done in a browser; the app and the site don't have the same features
It's hard to edit anything when the web version doesnt reflect what the app has. I have 9 envelopes on the app, but some how only 5 on the web. This app should be more user friendly.
can't import CSV files in the app, you must use web version

Monthly cycle only — no weekly or biweekly budgeting
Many people are paid every two weeks or weekly, but envelopes only fill monthly or yearly — the budget doesn't match real life
Great app. However I get paid every 2 weeks, I tell the app this, and I still have to distribute my money to my envelopes as if it were on a monthly basis rather than every 2 weeks (so my app always thinks im behind on money). It's a small flaw, but it's still annoying!
not everyone gets paid monthly. or budgets monthly.. many industries in Australia are paid fortnightly so this app just doesn't work
Works for envelopes but i cant compare my income against the total from all envelopes. Because my paycheck is a different amount every 2 weeks i need to see how much im short or have extra...still gotta do it on paper anyway
Confusing, unintuitive setup — a common reason people leave
People can't figure out how to add an envelope, allocate income, or subtract what they spent; they spend an hour and give up, and call adding money to an envelope counterintuitive
very confusing
this app is great just needs a little more explaining on how to build and how to work the app not that crazy to figure out though. really great for couples and families.
confusing to use. I gave up
No in-app guidance — help just pushes the paid version
There are no instructions in the app; «help» sends you off to read guides and watch videos or offers to charge you for premium; support is email-only
They have a 3.7 overall rating for a reason. The app, in my opinion, is not at all user-friendly. It's way too complicated. More than anything, their support sucks. Email only. 80.00 wasted. Do not recommend it.
Truly thank you! I am so grateful this is a free app. I am disabled and struggle with keeping numbers in my head and budgeting. This is the only free app that works for me. A little tricky to navigate at first but your YouTube instructional videos helped a lot.
Very confusing to use. No instructions or anything.
Constant location requests on every purchase
The app asks for location access on every entry, the refusal isn't remembered, and it can't be turned off — people drop their rating over it
As a budget app it's convenient however the fact that it wants to know my location for every transaction is extremely frustrating. It's not a feature that can be disabled and it prompts for every single transaction. If that is data that I have don't care to share, I should be able to decline one and that be that.
This app used to be better but there have been no real improvements in years. Some features, like location entries don't work well at all. The current state would be fine but since I pay monthly I feel cheated.
This is a great app. However, since a recent update on a new phone it keeps prompting me to grant permission to access my location. I see I'm not the only one with this problem. It's really annoying, so I have to downgrade my review for now.
People want flexible income: one-off, editable, and percentage splits
They want to add one-off income, change its amount later, see the remainder while filling envelopes, and split by percentage (say 50/25/25) rather than only fixed amounts
not able to add new one time income at all
I am a premium customer, yet why su h pathetic user experience? Addi g an income and dividing it into envelope is lot lot harder with app
Subscription only. Can't manually input income.
People want receipt photos, multi-currency, category tags, and a normal keypad
They want to attach a receipt photo to a purchase, multi-currency support, category tags with reporting, and better reports; they ask to enter amounts with a normal keypad and an automatic decimal point
It's outdated. Needs more frequent updates. I can't see what I'm typing now in the note section because the keyboard covers it up.
Good app. It would be great if we can add attachments like photos in transactions. sometimes it helps to add invoice copy or transaction slips as photos in each transaction.
I want to like it, but I updated my envelopes after setting the app up and it's refusing to completely reflect it in the envelopes category. It shows that I have $100 in the new envelope, but is showing the balance as -$10 after a single $10 transaction, and the bar is red.
The Android version lags behind iPhone and web
Envelope groups and some features exist on iPhone and web but not on Android; Android hasn't seen updates in ages, only bug fixes
No categories on android. no future months, I budget one month ahead. has some promise to get better
Looks like they're only releasing features for iPhone and not android, only bug fixes in over a year. Will add stars when they add features already released for iPhone 👎
Not user friendly at all on android phones
Dated look and amounts entered through a built-in calculator
The look is called old-fashioned («written in 1996»), text runs off the screen and won't scale; amounts are entered through a built-in calculator instead of a normal keypad
It's outdated. Needs more frequent updates. I can't see what I'm typing now in the note section because the keyboard covers it up.

I'm glad there was a trial - though it didn't have enough envelopes. But the user interface is terrible. This app needs some serious work on the user experience. It's 2026, this looks it was written in 1996. The mobile app isn't clear, text over writes display. It doesn't scale to screen. I heard good things about this app - but I don't know who was writing those reviews now. It's, a quick uninsta
The cheery messages when you go into the red are irritating
Jokey messages like «boo, you're in the red» demotivate newcomers who are still setting up their budget
Excellent app to keep my spending in check. Love the little happy/sad envelopes based on my spending
The icon is so cute. i can have many envelopes, fill them up at start of the month, then monitor their usage, just like watching ur data usage. Thanks devs!!
I'd like to give this app a higher rating, but I feel so demotivated when I go "under budget" (which I'm not, but I only have so many envelopes and it's confusing to refill if I need to adjust amounts in each since I'm only starting my budgeting process) and the app says "boooo in the red" or "negative money, interesting..." That's not motivating me to be better, it's motivating me to uninstall th
