Habitica: Gamify Your Tasks reviews
What users love and hate · 500 reviews analyzed · ★ 4.2
A gamified habit and task tracker: completing goals earns your character rewards, while missed tasks cost HP. Tasks are split into dailies, one-off to-dos, and habits.
What users love
Turning mundane chores into an RPG genuinely motivates
Tasks become a game — each checkmark brings XP, coins, and character growth, pulling you toward actually finishing things
I think Habitica doesn't seem to be a bad app to me, it's just like you are playing an RPG game.
A very creative way to help with self improvement and actually feels like self improvement is becoming a video game
Great place to hang out with similar people. If you have mental disorders, it's a great place for advice and help. Great for nerdy people who like fantasy games and/or RPG!
Especially effective for people with ADHD
External rewards and instant feedback help you start tasks and stay on track when attention is low
helps me with managing tasks a must have for someone with ADHD like myself
really helps boost my productivity. great for people with ADHD. wish there was more customization with the goals though like choosing colors or symbols. I think it would incentivize the user to put their goals in more. I also think it could be cool to be able to take a picture of a written to-do list and it automatically adds it because putting in the individual goals can be tedious. idk tho I'm n
very helpful for my adhd brain
The habits / dailies / to-dos split is genuinely useful
Three separate lists help prioritize work and keep recurring tasks from slipping through the cracks
cool idea, too much locked behind gems, and there's some weird sectioning between dailies and habits that just don't work for me. overall confusing and could use some ui revision.
I've been using this paired with the Forest app for a while, and it's done wonders for me. I absolutely love how each goal or task is separated into Dailies, To-Do's, and Habits. It makes life easier for me.
I have only started today, so no progress to note yet. I find it a little hard to navigate since there are so many tabs, and I wish there was a wee bit more instant gratification (though that might be the ADHD talking). I like how you can sort tasks as repeating or one-time, but I do find it difficult to tell between repeating tasks and habits (does feeding the pets every day count as a repeating
No ads, and almost everything is free
A fully functional tracker with zero ads; you only pay for cosmetics — everything else is unlocked in the free tier
Open source, no ads and nice pricing options to support the app. Great job 🙌🏻 I really appreciate these kind of people
Perfect app for habits. Absolutely no adds, which is great! Also game concept helps to do your to dos.
love that it's free 🔥
Helps beat procrastination and build real productivity
Users report stronger discipline, more tasks completed, and a calmer daily routine
great, helped me stay productive.
maybe I didn't give it a fair chance, but it did not give me a good breakdown of tasks I've been consistent with vs those that need more attention. too gameified, not enough quantified
it's a great app and has helped my family with getting stuff done
Party quests keep you accountable
Shared quests, team challenges, and mutual accountability make it much harder to quit
Really great app! but we as active habiticians doesn't have the perception about an active development of new features or actualization 'bout anything different from just the visual costume for the characters If this situation continues, most of the real and interested people on the app will search another alternatives. Maybe if the developers do new things like animations for the quest bosses or
Really great habit tracker, I used it specifically for the game like features it made me have one of the most fruitful summer vacations, I quit social media gradually till I had an 1h daily use max, I didn't doom-scroll coming from someone who had a 12h+ screentime, made me quit a lot of stuff and even gain new great habits like daily walking, saving, reading even... I deleted it because of some p
Amazing app if you want to track habits! I like that it has a feature where you can chat with friends and share your progress.
Some users outgrew the game but stayed for the tracker
Even without the RPG mechanics, the app earns respect as a clean, ad-free habit tracker
here, you shall find wonders that you shall not find on any other habit tracker app; chests, loot, gold, battles... But when all that comes at the cost of having no option to track habit consistency or any sort of map of how you're doing over time, all of it wears a little thin; like having a jet with a working jacuzzi and a broken engine.
Had my subscriber benefits removed even though I've already paid for the next month. Admin told me the issue is fixed, but it is not. Haven't heard back from them for days now Edit - still working on the issue but admin is now doing their best to help me out, which I really appreciate
It's hard to overstate how good this app can be for you if you have adhd. I would be so much less functional without this app. I appreciate the versatility of the to do lists and dailies, even if I grew out of the video game aspects over time. One feature I would love to see is the ability to set daily tasks to activate after certain times, like after 6pm every day.
Helped people through hard times and supported mental health
Many users credit the app with emotional support and keeping them grounded during difficult periods
Absolutely in love!! Been using this app for a few years now and I can't begin to describe how much it helped me through tough times. Big thanks to everyone in Team Habitica!
Life changing and fun! Thank you team! :) The game has clearly been designed by a compassionate, self care driven, positive, user focussed, open and transparent team. The default set-up is great and thoroughly balanced. All the tools and customisation options are also there to let the user craft the perfect version of the game for their own personal goals, self improvement style, personality, beha
Changed my life. ❤ Thank you!
What users hate
No per-habit history or progress charts
You only see the current streak; there's no calendar, heatmap, or over-time statistics
plss add the track record per month like the little box, so that i can see my weaknesses and strengtheness and missed
this app is definitely great, just one more feature addition request is the habit analysis! like heatmaps and graphs which looks good too!
maybe I didn't give it a fair chance, but it did not give me a good breakdown of tasks I've been consistent with vs those that need more attention. too gameified, not enough quantified
Most desirable content is locked behind gems and real money
In-game gold buys almost nothing; good items require gems that are nearly impossible to earn without a subscription
cool idea, too much locked behind gems, and there's some weird sectioning between dailies and habits that just don't work for me. overall confusing and could use some ui revision.
The amount of items that can only be bought with real money is absolutely ridiculous for an app that's whole point is getting you to do tasks by rewarding you with in-game points. In-game points can hardly be used on any items in comparison and none of the good ones
This may be the best app that ever existed! The Tamagotchi-style mechanics fuse perfectly with getting what you need to get done, well, done! I would say this is the app I never knew I wanted/needed, but I'VE WANTED THIS FOR SO LONG! THANK YOU! my only slight gripe is the premium currency locking a lot of content away... );
Missed dailies vanish as if completed
An undone daily disappears without carrying over a reminder — a real problem for forgetful users
It would be better if habitica has ranks like in solo leveling. Also a penalty quest would also boost up the discipline and motivation like when you fail to accomplish daily tasks, a penalty quest would be put forward to either maintain the streak or reset your health.
i like it but i wish tasks stayed due if you didn't complete them. just because I didn't do the laundry today doesn't mean it doesn't need done
Major problems that make this app less useful and unenjoyable to me: unfinished tasks still disappear as if you've finished them, even if you need to still do them IRL, making this app useless as a daily reminder for people with poor memory. Unfinished tasks also do a ton of damage compared to the rewards when you complete them, so you can't even make enough money to heal yourself if you have a to
Penalties for missing tasks are too harsh and kill motivation
Losing HP, levels, coins, and gear over a single miss makes many users want to give up entirely
lost all my avatars health just trying to figure out how the app works and was going to have to pay to revive. needs better instructions and a risk free learning module!

this game rewards you for doing your daily tasks. with experience You can go on a little side quest in this app And it's okay until you die. then you lose all of your gold If you were saving. yeah that sucks to suck. You lose a level which later levels. I was around 104. takes a really long time to grind out a level And is extremely discouraging. on top of that, you break a piece of armor. reward
The RPG layer is confusing without a tutorial
Classes, combat, and quests are opaque without clear guidance, and the tab-heavy interface feels cluttered
its a little clunky but clunky like playing DND. I find it to be fun and I like that it kicks your butt for not doing what you are supposed to. I do wish it could be a little more user friendly. and I would like to know how to invite people to the app
I love this app and I dont take the time to write reviews often, so that should tell you something. It has every feature that Ive wanted in a task app and it gamify's my task lists in a way that is fun and helps keep me engaged. There was a little bit of a learning curve with the avatar customizations and pets/mounts attributes, but the task functions were easy to pick up on and surprisingly robus
I've tried this before years ago, and just remembered why I abandoned it. It works well for daily tasks. It does not work well for weekly tasks or things that need to be done by the end of the week. I shouldn't have to set up a checklist inside of the task and remember to mark it as "done" at the end of the week. The gamification aspect seems fun, but does not help me stay motivated IRL. I have ha
Feature request: flexible scheduling and time-of-day reminders
Users want day-of-week recurrence, multiple daily alerts, specific times, and custom date formats
it's alright i guess. you can't make it use a 24 hour clock, though

it's a fantastic app! BUT I don't understand why I can't change the format. only the USA uses MM/DD/YY, please fix that and it's an easy 5*. it's meant to be making my life easier to track, but doing mental tricks just to read the date is tough.
The system is easy to game — you can check off tasks you didn't do
Rewards fire on a tap with no verification, making it trivial to farm coins and drain the experience of meaning
GREAT I JUST INSTALLED IT EARLIER ITS FUN,, LIKE YOUR LEVELING UP ALONGSIDE YOUR CHARACTER AVATAR, ALL WE JUST NEED TO DO IS DO THE TASK WE PUT AND SINCE THE CHECKING OF BOXES IS FREELY AND WE CAN CHEAT AND CHECK THE BOX EVEN IF WE DIDN'T DO IT,, UR NOT IMPROVING,, SO MAKE SURE MAKE THE TASK AND CHECK ITS NICE,, I HOPE IT GOT MORE EVENTS IN THE FUTURE AND MANY NEW MECHANICS,, AND MAYBE ADD A BOSS
1 ⭐.the motivation is better than the Finch app I tried. 2 ⭐.it's easy for a normal gamer to use after clicking on everything at first. 3 ⭐.it feels better than the last app I tried. 4 ⭐. if true to yourself on not spam clicking the check list then it works. I'm just to lazy to try much witch is why I'm here to not be to lazy. 5 ⭐. I love to shop and this have points for in game items so I get tha
it is a good idea but you can very easily cheat and i mean it quite literally , and i did just that
Feature request: Arabic and other language support
Users are asking for Arabic, Hindi, and additional interface languages
please add Arabic language
It's a good app, but it could be improved further by adding more Arabic language support.
I hope you will add Arabic to the app because you have users in Arab countries.
Feature request: richer task customization — colors, difficulty, subtasks
Users want color labels, custom difficulty levels, nested subtasks, and manual sort order

perfectly simple, I took a star away because of lacking in the customizing of the avatar
It's a great app for managing your To-do and habits. It's reward system is also great. More customization like color in the actual Tasks would be good tho.
The pixel art style isn't for everyone
Some find the avatar and pixel graphics too childish, blurry, or "too nerdy"
Great place to hang out with similar people. If you have mental disorders, it's a great place for advice and help. Great for nerdy people who like fantasy games and/or RPG!
perfectly simple, I took a star away because of lacking in the customizing of the avatar
I couldn't get past the poorly pixelated images
Feature request: deeper gameplay — bosses, world map, useful pets
Users want boss animations, a world map, new quests, pets with actual utility, and more complex combat

it's a fun way to keep track of your tasks, habits, and todo lists. I do wish more people played it or there was actually more to do in the game. currently you defeat monsters by completing tasks which does damage to them. but you are just informed that it did damage. not much interaction.
HI! the game is overall very great. but I'm here to talk about the "game". I was thinking it would be a pretty good idea if the user finishes at least 10 task or their choice and then gets a game to play. I was think the game could be about fighting actual monsters as we level up since we have swords an armor. I was very excited but then got disappointed but it did help me get some things actually
