A calorie and weight diary with barcode scanning and diet-based macro calculations — built for users tracking their nutrition and nutrients while losing weight.
What users love
You can get the old diary back by disabling 'multimodal tracking'
A toggle in settings restores the familiar database search instead of the AI chat; barcode scanning also starts working again once it's off
Annoyingly as a premium user there's no way to use the AI features if multimodal diary is not enabled. I want to still have the same breakdown and view of the daily intake, just sometimes it's easier for the AI to insert the meal, please add an AI button next to the other 5 when pressing the +
UPDATE! READ IF YOU HATE THE AI Under settings, under customize diary, turn OFF multimodal tracking. This will bring the app back to pre-AI! You can search for foods and add them as we could previously My one star review is sticking. there are SO many one star in reviews about the AI, and the company failed to tell anyone that it could be disabled. edit: everyone is asking you to just revert back
used to be great app. now it's lagging, AI bad. I would love to have possibility to use both ai camera and database from humans (search), now i go to settings to turn off the "multimodal tracking", but then no AI :(
The free tier is more generous than many paid competitors
Even without a subscription: barcode scanning, calorie goal calculation, and protein/fat/carb breakdown are all available; ads are unobtrusive and the food database is large and multilingual
the free version is pretty decent compared to other apps. I like that I can scan barcodes or search to track food, I also like how it adjusts based on the exercise you do each day. a lot of features are locked :( but the subscription is crazy expensive so idk if it would be worth it. edit: idk why they are marketing it as an AI tracker when I don't think anyone actually wants that lol
even the free version is excellent
I switched from myfitnesspal after they decided to lock away almost every feature behind a pay wall. Lifesum offers a pretty reasonable and well featured free edition and the paid version looks nice. I wish I had the ability to correct nutrition info on barcode scanned items instead of hoping they correct it when I submit there's an issue. Even if it was only correct for me until they accept the c
Genuinely helps users lose weight over years of use
Long-term users drop tens of kilograms, maintain results, and keep coming back; the app builds discipline and teaches smarter food choices
I have been using this app for 4 years and I love it. I've lost 150 pounds keeping track of my micros. I always recommend it to anyone on a weight loss journey.
I have used this app since May last year, and it has really helped me lose weight, so I can recommend it from this perspective. However, recent interface changes have made it really unusable and difficult to analyse what you logged during the day—so many clicks are needed, etc. I will be switching to a different app if Lifesum doesn’t improve the main screen’s ease of use. the app is sometimes ver
This app has helped me lose over 30kgs, this is the only app I pay for ever.
Clean, intuitive interface makes food logging easy
Appealing design, straightforward entry flow, and clear data presentation — even first-timers get up to speed without effort
Just an all around great app to track what we put into our machinery. Thank you for a high value product!
I was excited to find a well designed and simple to use calorie tracker that syncs to Google Health Connect such that other apps can read my nutrition data. Unfortunately it took me a week to realize that almost none of my tracked meals were synced to health connect. This followed a frustrating amount of time to figure out why only to realize that foods tracked with the standout "AI tracking" feat
I use to love this app. it was user friendly it had a lot of great information. then it did the AI thing and now it's totally unusable. it's inaccurate on the calorie amount by A LOT. the whole thing is frustrating as hell trying to navigate.
What users hate
Mandatory AI chat replaced the familiar manual food entry
The food database search has been swapped for an AI chat interface; logging a meal now takes longer and feels confusing, with many users demanding the old input back and switching to competitors
I've been using this app for a long time now and I'm paying premium but lately it's getting worse. it takes forever to load, crashes and sometimes numbers don't add up right. the Ai feature makes it more difficult to quickly change things in meals. before you could push the "add ingredients" button and just added XYZ. now when you push it it leads to the Ai window where you have to write out what
can't do anything more than track my weight and water after recent update. used to be able to track food as well, but most of the functions end in, "sorry, something went wrong." I've seen several recent reviews stating this, so it's probably a problem with AI implementation, which I do not want or wish to consent to having access to any of my data.
Can we please stop ruining absolutely everything with AI? This app used to be fantastic - easy to navigate, intuitive to use, plus great premium features. Then they bolted on a gimmicky AI function no-one asked for. And ever since, it's been sluggish and annoying. I don't even use the AI mode, but suddenly the app takes forever to scan new bar codes or look up an exercise. I'd happily pay my sub f
Photo food recognition gets calories badly wrong
Camera estimates are wildly inflated, misidentifying foods (cashews logged as shrimp), and picking up background items; the promised 'just photograph your food' feature is invisible to half of users
the AI calorie counter from pictures is very far off the majority of the time. there are free apps that do this way better and I'm a little miffed I spent money on this at all
Very slow - expect every interaction with the server to take about 30 seconds (or timeout occasionally). The ai photo-of-a-meal feature is ok-ish, but it makes up its own numbers instead of calculating from photos of nutritional label values or packaged products that are correctly identified.
The AI is worthless. 20% of the time it errors out, 20% of the time it hallucinates 7000 calories into a cup of coffee. Editing it's errors is a pain in the glutes. Don't bother spending money here.
Calorie counts shift: the same food gives different numbers on different entries
Identical foods calculate to different values each time, often higher than the real figure; numbers don't match package labels, making the tracking hard to trust
the kcal is way off, and cant change it without paying.. useless.

Wrong product data can't be corrected manually
No way to edit entries even on a paid plan; error reports go nowhere; the only workaround is fiddling with fractional serving sizes

Decent app. The recipe functionality is broken or just poorly designed: I can only access my self created recipes via adding (tracking) and can't edit them once I've saved them. Using the AI with e.g. "I want to edit the recipe" gives me a reply of having edited the recipe and immediately tracks a meal with extra ingredients I have not specified. If you're following their programs and not cooking
Just revisited the app as I've got back into health tracking. I was trying to log a complex meal on fitbit and it would only let me add individual ingredients, so I went to Lifesum to be able to create custom meals. Nope. Locked to premium. Ah, probably worth it to get back into this, I'm really failing to meet my macros. Nope. Buying premium locks you into using AI submissions to track your food.
Barcode scanning degraded after an update
Camera won't focus, barcode appears 'scanned' but tapping Add closes the window with nothing logged; sometimes pulls up the wrong product
the free version is pretty decent compared to other apps. UI looks nice and the meal plans are diverse, but 1 in around 10 barcodes I scan for my lunch isn't found or it finds the wrong item. Even though it's connected to Health Connect, it doesn't update the daily calories based on activity, and yes it's turned on in settings. MyFitnessPal doesn't struggle this much. I keep giving it a chance, but I don't know how long I can keep it up.
I've used the app for years to track daily calories, as it has the most comprehensive barcode / foods that I've found. Recently however, the in-app advertising has become very obnoxious, with the exact same "upgrade now" fullscreen takeover displayed multiple times per day, every day. I must have seen it hundreds of times now, and it happens right as you're halfway through adding something. A real
Intermittent fasting timer disappeared without warning
The fasting timer vanished after an update — for many users it was the main reason they subscribed; there's no way to get it back
I've been a paying user for several years, but now every update goes further into the AI slope. The last update is so bad, I can't properly log food anymore. The full AI shift is quite a disaster, things that would take a few seconds with manual entry takes forever now, oftentimes the AI just doesn't respond, the logging doesn't work anymore without it, and the intermittent fasting disappears.
where did the custom fasting go? I had it 2 days ago. Now it's gone from my page. Can't find anywhere to turn it back on either. This is the main reason I payed 499,-NOK for the app 3 days ago. Now it's just gone? WHY? I want my money back!
controlling fasting timer is not available in v20.4.0, can neither control fasting without.
Water tracker is gone or glitching on the home screen
Water intake no longer shows in the diary; enabling one tracker hides the others; drink reminders still fire but there's nowhere to log them
when i try to track water, it adds the wrong amount. when i try to track exercise, it tracks the wrong amount. etc. the app looks nice though.
can no longer track water intake
Update 16/12: It removed the water tracking, which is a no-go for me Update 2: the workaround actually did the trick, thank you
Sharing meals with another user was removed
Couples who were losing weight together and sharing food entries lost their favorite feature and now have to log everything twice manually
I have used this app for many years and loved it, was the best app out there. This year I dont know what updates they have done but the app is barely useable. No longer can I share meals with my partner so is super time consuming to input the ingredients one by one for both our apps, but also I will scan one item and my partner scans the same item, puts the same weight and it works out different c
it was good. Then they removed the meal sharing functionality, and now its only usable by single people.
it's getting worse with each upgrade. why did you remove sharing??
Custom recipes don't save and can't be edited
Created dishes don't appear under My Foods without reinstalling; saved recipes can't be edited; calorie counts for the same recipe differ when selected from the list
Broken in many places: * add a portion of a 4 portion meal. adds 1/4 of some ingredients as it should, and then the full amount for others * 1000s of steps walking = 0 calories * very few recipes, especially if you have any allergies * even some lifesum confirmed ingredients contain errors
Half the time when I create a new recipe it doesn't get saved, adding a new entry takes 10+ seconds. The ai focus is bad, it's barely usefull and has left the core app almost unuseable.
can't create proper custom food. if barcode exists, you can't save your own the same. servings are not detailed, if you enter packaging details the serving messes up the final results.
Assigned calorie targets are dangerously low
The app auto-sets 870–1198 kcal/day and won't let you raise the target without a subscription — a real risk for users who don't know enough about nutrition to push back
Is it healthy for an adult to set a goal of 1198 kcal? This app set that goal for me and I find it quite dangerous. Syncing with Health Connect doesn't work well, I don't see burned, it's always 0. Nice interface.
Great app. Easy to use and track weight, food, water and exercise. Shame the premium version is an annual subscription otherwise I'd consider it. Sadly I've downgraded this app from a 4 to a 2. Since the update I can't do ½ of what I could originally even down to choosing my own daily calorie intake without having to pay.
I use to love this app and always used it to help me get back on track. Then I started using it to get the christmas weight off and found that my plan had completely changed and my calorie allowance had gone down to 870 calories! If I wanted to change it I had to buy pay for premium! complete money grab and seriously dangerous if I was someone who didn't understand dieting and eating healthy. I wi
Steps and workouts either show zero burned calories or get double-counted
10,000 steps show 0 calories burned; a 6-mile run logs 98 kcal; or the opposite — steps and walking both count, inflating the burn total
Kind of annoyed that my steps through HealthConnect aren't counted at all. I do 10K steps a day, they appear in the Exercises as Walking, and yet the app shows 0 calories burnt.

Poor support for specific diets and conditions: diabetes, allergies, keto
Can't exclude fruit and sugar for diabetes; soy is missing from the allergen list; net carbs on keto are calculated wrong; Ramadan mode doesn't adapt the schedule

actually the ideas are good in general the profile is way simpler and clean but to be very accurate and professional, it's my second month using it and we started Ramadan and the region tells u everything, when u don't respect my culture and u do not care and has no updates to follow up with the it it's a huge technical problem so I don't recommend you bcuz u r missing alot of things
ridiculous that you have to pay to change daily macro requirements. Want to keto? pay. Diabetic? pay
Food scores are demotivating: healthy foods get low ratings
Whole-grain bread, kimchi, and fruit get low scores and red flags with no numeric explanation; instead of motivation, users get confusion
Very handy to track calories and weight progress, very good. My complaints are that I can't disable "encouraging" messages from the app whenever I enter my weight change, and that every time I open the app I have to wait two seconds for a pop-up asking me to subscribe and I have to click it away before I can use the app for its intended purposes. The fact that it now has "AI" in the name is yet an
The app is fine. The UI is nice. The AI tracker is great. My issue is the reports are very much lacking. It doesn't answer questions like which foods contribute to carbs, fat, or sugar. The weekly statistics also lack more detail. Like how much sugar i normally take. It's hard to take actionable steps without those information. There's the Life score which is good. But it's not transparent enough.
I use it as a diary, but there are not enough useful statistics to track protein, fat weekly, monthly for example fruits are red now. Haribo, oranges, persimmon, doesn't matter, everything is bad 😂(according to your colors). Test your new solutions before roll out into prod sometimes app loads too long. didn't happen before my last update
