Lightweight text notes with tags and sync across phone, desktop, and browser — built for minimalists who don't want extra features in the way.
What users love
Minimalism with no cruft — the main reason people stick with it for years
Clean, distraction-free UI: open, write, close — nothing gets in the way
perfect app in my opinion. It's exactly what I wanted it to be: A simple note taking app that is easy to use. Been a user for over 10 years now. love this app, don't know what I'd do without it
I have it installed on all my devices, Awesome app, Thanks.
The best because of its simplicity.
Near-instant sync across phone, desktop, and browser
Fast cross-platform sync: edits appear on another device almost immediately
very fast sync just like notes of ios but cross-platform no ads no subscription
literally simple note, finally! i was lookin' for a simple note without useless customization and features and heavy ui and real time sync and i think finally i've found it. Thanks!
Great app, no fuss note taking with no bloated features. Grateful for the Automattic team making this free with sync and sharing included, so much value. thank you!
Runs on everything, including Linux
Apps for Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux, and browser keep your notes identical everywhere
excellent app. browser , desktop and Android version all three are good. only thing missing is some basic formatting like bold, strikethrough, etc.
great notes app fir multi platform but on wimdows it is pushing for win 10 now or win 11 though i think keeping backward compatibility would be great
This app works seamlessly across all my devices. I appreciate the consistent experience whether I'm on my phone, tablet, or computer. It's so convenient to pick up where I left off, regardless of the platform. The developers have done a great job of creating a truly unified experience. I highly recommend this app for its multi-platform functionality.
A natural landing spot for people leaving Evernote or Apple Notes
Feels close to Apple Notes without the Apple lock-in; many arrive from Evernote and Google Keep
wanted a simple text editor, not a complicated log in process and another agreement to data mine.
Wish for merging notes option
Simplenote has most of want you want in a simple text note taking app. It supports search result navigation within individual notes (not quite searching within a note, but close enough), note sharing/collaborating, tagging &c. It also keeps note histories so you can potentially roll back if there's a synchronization error or accidental deletion. However, this doesn't always prevent data loss. I wa
Tags, pinning, and version history keep power users loyal
Tag system, note pinning, and edit history with rollback to any previous version
Satisfied with the application. Tags are awesome, but it would be better if there were features for highlighting lines. One more suggestion is, you can save the notes locally as well in text file for emergency ⭐⭐⭐
to one who complained about not having a heading here is a quick fix create a note, inside that note, write only the heading Then create a new note and write the contents
best note taking app
Reliably saves what you type — notes never disappear on exit
Auto-save and predictability: no matter how you close the app, your text is still there
outstanding. offline. open, type, close. saves automatically. can change font, and back ground color, way easy. very fast app and very fast note taking. if you have an idea and need it written down quickly this is the app.
Simple, reliable, works extremely well.
Simple and Flawless with no issues
Publish a note via link and export to WordPress
You can publish a note as a standalone link and push markdown content externally
The best note taking app. Simpe and intuitive. I use it mainly for todo lists. Markdown support and sharing are great features for power users
I love this app, but there's 1 thing that needs added. I'm an aspiring author & am using the app for writing my stories. The notes cannot be named or have subtitles, therefore the story title and chapter headings have to be added into the note itself, which messes with the word count of the story. Also, it would be nice if there was a FAQ installed that explained all features of the app. One of th
I don't usually give reviews if at all but THIS IS TOP 5 apps of all time, no nonsense, no ads, no subscriptions, like a lightweight and more efficient version of keep notes BUT YOU CAN PUBLISH NOTES OMG. To the developers here are your flowers and I hope you see this.
What users hate
Cursor jumps to the end of the note while you're typing
When typing at the start of a long note, the screen snaps to the end on its own — especially bad with Samsung keyboards; this bug has been around for years
So far, a decent notepad experience. ✅ Gmail login works smoothly — no OTP chaos like other apps. 😌 Most features feel clean and functional. However, the same frustrating issue persists — cursor misbehaves during deletion and the Enter key occasionally causes problems too. 😓 Not as severe as other notepads I've tried, but still noticeable. ⚠️ Will continue using it for now and update this review
practical, reliable and straight forward
I have been using this app for about 4 years , i like its simplicity and how tagging and searching system work in this app. I hope you continue to maintain it and support it❤️
No undo / redo buttons
No undo button: an accidental deletion means digging through version history, which can itself strip away recent changes
From 1 to 3 stars now the syncing works normal I've tested for couple of months. But I wish you developer can add a basic features such as undo and redo button instead using history! And search function! I wrote more than 2900 words for my projects and I need to find some specific words etc so I think those 3 features are not too much to ask? I'm sure most of the users need it too!
such a useless app , i wasted my 1 hour and it is not able to create and login account in the app
Simple and Flawless with no issues
Lag and freezing on long notes
With large amounts of text, input lags badly — keyboard falls behind, and notes over tens of thousands of characters become nearly uneditable on mobile
Great app with a clean, distraction-free experience, but performance can become slow when managing large note collections. Improving speed and responsiveness for heavy users would make a big difference. It would also be helpful to add color-coded notes or tags, pinned notes, quick filters, and custom sorting options. Productivity could be further enhanced with bulk actions and a simple archive/tra
I love the minimalistic feel of this app. it's perfect for me except for the fact that I can't add images to my notes
The best notes app for simple notes.
Users want basic text formatting
No bold, italic, underline, or headings with a single tap — you have to switch to markup mode to get any formatting
excellent app. browser , desktop and Android version all three are good. only thing missing is some basic formatting like bold, strikethrough, etc.
Add basic Feature like headinf bold italic bullet points etc
wanted a simple text editor, not a complicated log in process and another agreement to data mine.
Users want image, document, and PDF attachments
You can't attach photos, documents, or PDFs to a note — a common reason people switch to a competitor
it's simple and it works. Been using for couple yrs. No ads

Users want a separate note title field and folder/notebook organization
No separate title field distinct from the note body, and no folders or notebooks for organizing a large collection of notes
This app is nice and simple, though I would definitely appreciate a couple more features. Just being able to name each note and alphabetize lists would make it perfect 👌

unable to log in as it keeps rejecting the password after it's been successfully reset. tried importing notes but failed. It looks like the server connection is too unreliable as it said it hadn't synced. looks like I will look for an alternative. Thanks for replying, however I am determined to use a EU based solutions when I can, so will not be trying again.
Search finds the note but doesn't show you where the match is
In-note search is weak: doesn't highlight or scroll to the match; also struggles with Hindi, Malayalam, and Arabic
Great app. Immensely useful. Even has a dark mode. However, I am quite annoyed that there *still* isn't a find/replace function, even though that exists on the web app. implement that and I'll gladly give 5 stars.

Users want smart to-do lists: drag-to-reorder and hide completed items
No drag-to-reorder for list items, no auto-moving checked items to the bottom, and no way to hide completed tasks
[EDIT:] Simplenote is great, but still hoping: • You'll fix the bug that shows the keyboard when we tap a checkbox (covers list, makes it scroll out of position) • Allow free drag-arrangement of items (you needn't make each entry a control; just add a transparent animation of the dragged entry, then refresh the list when the user drops it). Thanks! 📝 😊👍
is there any option to add pdf to notes please add the ability to add pdfs to notes
Unable to login in to the app. The same login and password work fine in a browser.
The app feels abandoned compared to modern competitors
No meaningful updates or new features in a long time; next to Notion, Obsidian, and Standard Notes, it feels stuck in the past — and support goes silent
Won't let me use the app without signup. Very nice intro to the app 👏
2026-02-09 : I have used online SimpleNote for years but the App crashes a few seconds after each use making it practically unusable. Edits to notes in app no longer reflect on web version. Now the web version no longer works. Guess this service has been abandoned without notice.
Love it! I used Outlook Notes for many years but when I recently got a new mobile I couldn't sync Outlook to my phone with Task & Notes. Simplenote it just what I was looking for! Very tedious to copy and paste all my notes one by one from Outlook Notes into Simplenote, but now that it's done I'm very happy!
Notes and checkboxes disappear on their own
Sometimes a note opens blank, entire note lists vanish, or checkboxes uncheck themselves with no action from the user
Wish for merging notes option
I can't access old acct, process not working. PLZ HELP: I saw breach notice. Wanted to cancel whole acct bec not using anyway. Site said I will receive a code to re-enter the site. Code did not work. Requested new code, got nothing. I finally started a new account that I don't want, trying to find where acct setting to delete is, no luck. If I open your app, is there 'cancel acct' setting so I cou
I think users should be able to use the app without having to log in or sign up. There's no option to sign up through Google to get quickly to the app either. This makes SimpleNote onboarding ironically complicated... 😅
