  1. ★★★★bugs and crashes

WIDGETS NOT UPDATING AGAIN FOR 100th time. This bug is constantly coming back where you add to your To Dos and it doesn’t update and it either skips it or doesn’t show it at all. I sent a message to their admin to report the bug and they were rude saying just use the app itself for now. Completely unacceptable and not professional. this app could easily have 4 to 5 stars but it’s no wonder they have 2.4 only. Please have this fixed. I’m not alone so many people are leaving the app bc of this constant back and forth

  2. ★★★★bugs and crashes

Not working. When I try to sign in it always says request timed out and I can’t sign in

  3. ★★★★gems and paid subscription

Unethical. I downloaded this app and use it one day to see if it would be efficient to use with clients. Since then, I have been trying to figure out how to unsubscribe yet I’ve been charged.

  4. ★★★★bugs and crashes

App Constantly Crashes. A recent update changed the look of the app but resulted in the app constantly crashing. It’s almost unusable. They should roll back the update.

  5. ★★★★guilds and tavern

Moving in the WRONG direction!!!!. ⭐☆☆☆☆ I realize I’m late to this news, but I just rediscovered Habitica after using it consistently from 2020 through 2023 and I genuinely cannot believe the guilds are gone. The guilds were the soul of this app. That’s not dramatic that’s accurate. They were how I found goal-specific communities, niche challenges, accountability partners, and like-minded people pushing toward the same achievements. Whether it was fitness, language learning, productivity sprints, or life resets, guilds created momentum. They made change feel communal instead of lonely. Coming back, I was actually excited. I thought, “Okay, let’s see what guilds are active now. Let’s plug back in.” And they just… don’t exist. That completely deflates the experience. The app without guilds feels like a stripped-down habit tracker with RPG cosmetics. Functional? Sure. Inspiring? Not even close. What makes this more frustrating is the subscription fee. You’re charging $4.99/month. If moderation was the issue, raise the price. Gate guild access behind subscription. Recruit paid moderators. Build a scaled-down version. There were options. Eliminating them entirely feels like removing the engine because maintaining it was inconvenient. I understand this happened a while ago. I’m just rediscovering the app now, and the downgrade hits hard. The excitement, the optimism, the sense of shared transformation gone. For an app built around gamified self-improvement, removing the primary social motivation system feels like a massive strategic misstep. Really disappointing.

  6. ★★★★game mechanics and customization

The idea has limitless potential but the execution is awful. There's so many ways that this idea could be good, but clearly the devs just stopped at "good enough." I just want an app that makes creating a routine fun, and I love rpg's so I figured this would be a real winner. I'm assuming the dev is like 50+ years old and never actually played a real rpg video game from this era. My guess is that they spend 99% of their time playing D&D, because all rpg elements are clearly inspired by it. It'd also explain the choice of 1980's graphics. When I finally got to go on my first quest, I thought "finally, something to do other than collecting useless items" but I was quickly back to being disappointed. Like D&D, you have to imagine going on a quest. Why there's not actually any real monsters to fight with your character is beyond me. There's also absolutely no purpose in any of the classes. Nothing changes from being a rogue or a mage, the entire class system is arbitrary. It's basically this: want more useless items, pick a rogue, want more useless experience points, pick a mage, etc. The only thing that resembles anything like a video game rpg is the HP and damage system. Don't do a task on your list, take damage. Ultimately, I'm deciding to uninstall this app because there's no way to interact with it on the apple watch. The habit/task tracking is good, I'm just not interested in collecting useless junk and pointless pets that do nothing. So, I might as well just switch to a normal tracker that has some apple watch capabilities.

  7. ★★★★game mechanics and customization

Well there’s not a guest account. So there’s not a guest account and I don’t wanna do that stuff so yeah, bad app 👎👎

  8. ★★★★bugs and crashes

Widget no longer updating. I’ll preface this with saying that Habitica, overall, is a great app for to-do lists and habit tracking. However, the greatest benefit to using it was having a widget on my home screen that kept me reminded of the things on such lists. For weeks now, the widget has been broken, forcing me to seek out other apps. Support was niA

  9. ★★★★bugs and crashes

App won’t let me login. Was very interested in using this app. But it won’t even let me use it no matter what I do

  10. ★★★★gems and paid subscription

Micro transactions scam. This app seemed fun and helpful at first but lots of functionality is locked behind gems. It’s advertised you can subscribe monthly for $5 and get gems. However this is not the case. After subscribing you are allotted the ability to buy 24 gems for only $6 more dollars! What a scam. I mean deal. Avoid just do your chores no need to gamify it and add micro transactions to your life.

  11. ★★★★gems and paid subscription

Buggy. Lots of things to complain about. Very buggy as of late. Impossible to get gems. Had it for over three years and have zero. Dying took all of my gold. As it is now not a good app.

  12. ★★★★gems and paid subscription

I keep trying to like it. But honestly it makes no sense. It’s not intuitive. I’m not motivated to do more because it’s not clear what the goal is or how I gain anything. Currency, mounts, clothing items, etc all seem to be random on what they require or how to obtain them. I honestly thought this entire game was microtransactions until I got into a menu where I in fact did have currency. I’m still not clear how items work or what to do with them though. It says I get certain items for events on my notification but it’s not clear how to obtain them or if you’ve obtained them to equip them? It’s not clear how I can use anything this app offers as far as “rewards” to motivate myself at all. I use it as a checklist and that’s it. I set all my habits to monthly so I can see what I’ve done this month but it’s ridiculous when it resets on the first and there’s no way to view your history of chores. You lose a level if you run out of life. The app doesn’t care if you’re sick and has no option to really skip a day if you have another person to pickup dailies for you. This app does nothing for me motivation wise and as much as I wanted it to work for my life it just doesn’t. Sunk cost fallacy is the only reason I’ve kept it this long. Devs barely tried and provide 0 instruction or direction to the player on how to even use the thing, much less how to customize anything or actually use it as a tool. Completing tasks does nothing, same with not completing them because the game doesn’t give you anything to look forward to or work towards. It’s really not clear what the goal of the game is and I’m not going to keep trying to figure it out.

  13. ★★★★guilds and tavern

App is now non-functional. This app has lost a lot of its luster ever since the guilds got removed two years ago. It flares up more demand avoidance for me than it does motivation and incentive. The last year’s worth of extras to dress our avatars up with “confer no benefit”, unlike the previous ones that did. The only benefit of paying a subscription now is the gold conversion to gems and the time capsules…but i don’t open up this app enough to even use those. If my avatar wasn’t in the tavern, i’d lose all of my gold for lack of use. And then today, i get a push notification from the app to check out some extra goodies sent to me (and everyone else who still uses it, i’m supposing) except the app basically stopped functioning. Won’t refresh, nothing updated it just now and it’s stuck in the intro screen with a rainbow wheel of doom every time i try to open it. So, i guess it’s a good thing i had canceled my subscription to this app earlier this month…even tho’ it’s roughly $15 every three months, it still feels like a waste of money especially now that it’s no longer working.

  14. ★★★★gems and paid subscription

Pay to Play. I got this app and have been using it for 14 days. My only problem is that for the past 3 days, i’ve been only receiving potions as drops. no eggs, no food. I’ve been waiting it out hoping it’s only coincidence, but it seems like the developers are testing to see how far they can go before a player either pays to get gems or a subscription, or deletes the app altogether. The reason I enjoyed this app is because i really liked the pets, but i can’t feed nor hatch anymore and it’s very frustrating. I refuse to pay for this app because i don’t have the money and think it’s really suspicious that the drop ratio is so skewed for me.

  15. ★★★★bugs and crashes

Unusable. Any time I try to add, remove, or change anything the app doesn’t update with the new information. I have to close and reload to see the changes. Even character creation was a chore to get through because any time I would select a different option, it would take a good 20 seconds to actually update. Dunno if it’s server issues or what, but it’s not a good first impression.

  16. ★★★★bugs and crashes

I don’t get it. I mean it just does not work. It lags like crazy, during the character creator, all the clothes and hair kept changing. When clicking finished, it just froze and I had to restart the app. When I finally got in, the UI was messed up. With health have off the screen. And when I try to delete tasks, they show back up a few seconds later if they delete at all.

  17. ★★★★game mechanics and customization

no guy characters. i have to me a girl

  18. ★★★★bugs and crashes

Unable to even complete setup. Can’t finish. Click it and nothing happens so the app is essentially useless

  19. ★★★★bugs and crashes

Help tech error?. I just signed up and creating character and stuff, I get to final page where it asks what I want to us the app for I select exercise and chores and I click finish to go to the next page but nothing happens. It's not frozen I can select more and deselect and go back to previous pages but it want let me finish

  20. ★★★★guilds and tavern

Works but the bullies aren’t worth it. I really liked this app. I’ve enjoyed it and it helps. However, the players can be very toxic when it comes to parties. Recently I was bullied out of a party for not wanting to join a challenge due to my mental health. I can’t believe the things people will say to you in an app about self improvement (kys). Without the parties, this app is great but people are so cruel that my experience has spoiled the whole thing and now I just get upset when I open the app. Developers response: I submitted a report every time. There are several different locations to do so so it’s very confusing. You also cannot flag on iOS and can’t report a chat once you’ve been removed. I submitted a fully detailed report to the suggested email and received a two sentence response saying we’re looking into it. Thanks. Lack lustre response. It doesn’t matter if I report. Nothing changes. And it doesn’t matter if I form my own party because you cannot tell how someone will behave before adding them to your party. It’s not a habit app. It’s a game. And the player base can be toxic despite what the developer says. I have screenshots that were never responded to. No support. I’m not using the app anymore. It just makes me sad. Back to paper and pen it is.

  21. ★★★★game mechanics and customization

PLEASE MAKE AN APPLE WATCH VERSION. begging y’all to make an Apple Watch version so that it can be on my wrist instead of getting distracted by picking up my phone.

  22. ★★★★bugs and crashes

Excited but let down. This all seemed to be exactly what I needed to get myself motivated to care for my home and self. However, any task or habit I create, regardless of filters or ensuring I press “create”, disappears and cannot be found via search or any dashboard. Really disappointing.

  23. ★★★★gems and paid subscription

Avatar background previews don’t show the whole picture, no refund. I paid money for a background for my avatar, joke’s on me the sample picture only shows the top half of the background… so now I spent money on this silly background with no way to get a refund. Very disrespectful.

  24. ★★★★bugs and crashes

!!!No sound on IOS apperently!!!. Seems like a cool app but unfortunately there is no sound which is misleading in my opinion since it says there is. Will change when fixed, until then. This app had potential.

  25. ★★★★other

The devs gave up on it. No longer my go-to habit tracking app. Shame how it fell apart.

  26. ★★★★bugs and crashes

Buggy on iPad. I’m unable to complete onboarding on the last step!

  27. ★★★★bugs and crashes

Ok Idea Poor Execution. Good intentions but very poor product execution. Many bugs and problems: major lag or latency issues for almost all interactions result in an unresponsive app. Tapping to dos takes many seconds if at all to register as done. Similar UX bugs with most all taps in the app. Also bad: the app doesn’t work when offline, and doesn’t save any actions and shows many error messages. For an already over-complicated habit tracker that takes “gamification” too far its poor product quality only makes it all worse. Do not purchase this product until all these issues are fixed.

  28. ★★★★bugs and crashes

    Can’t login. I can’t register/ log in. Buggy

  29. ★★★★game mechanics and customization

Looked so great! But… bummer.. This looked fantastic and the concept is really cool. However, trying to simply re-order habits was a mess. While trying to drag a habit to a new place in the list, it would rarely work. The error about a task not being found was most often displayed when trying to drag the habit to a new spot on the list. It sounds trivial, but I couldn’t get past this shortcoming in the UI, so Habitica never went into practical use. Bummer!

  30. ★★★★bugs and crashes

A Shell of What It Used to Be. Habitica used to be wonderful. The task manager itself is so-so and simplistic, but the community really helped me with accountability and growth. It was so encouraging and fun! Fast forward: the staff have been slowly dismantling everything good about the app. The social spaces have been almost entirely removed (a core feature, disappeared). There have been no meaningful new features, so it continues to fall behind other apps. The Pros? It’s free. The Cons? It’s a sinking ship, and there are a million better apps out there for both productivity and gamification.
