  1. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Wasted my time. Doesn’t tell you you have to pay until after you’ve already gone through submitting all your information

  2. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Subscription. I wish these apps would declare ight up front that there is no free version, only subscription offers. I was faked out again!

  3. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Paid app. Not just in-app purchases. Can’t use At all without credit card. Burn it.

  4. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

    $9.99/month. Stingy

  5. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Locked behind a subscription service. This would help me do much if i wasnt too poor to use its monthly subscription. Feels like profit is more important than helping people here given theres no free option.

  6. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Scam. Asks for all your information and THEN forces you into a paywall. Also disgusting use of AI art which I didn’t realize until I opened the app. Lazy team making a lazy cash grab product, can’t even bother to use their funds to hire an artist. I’d give zero stars if I could.

  7. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Not free- can’t take accountability. App that scams people to download it by pretending it’s free. It’s not at all. Lying developer.—if you don’t want to be called a liar or scammer then don’t try deceiving people. It’s simple. Most of your other reviews say the same thing, so it’s clear of your intent to waste others time. A transparent person would not make the consumer go through the whole process of signing up before informing them that they must pay to do literally anything with the app. Clearly you know most people do not check the app description, that’s why you ONLY put a disclaimer there. It is malicious to waste people’s time this way and trick them into downloading an app. Getting defensive over the reviews calling you out makes it worse by the way. It means you have transparency issues and bad customer service. However, have a good day. Hopefully you can present your app in a less annoying way in the future, then I would be willing to check it out. I recommend to make it clear that your service is not free upon opening the app. It’s much more courteous than prompting users to sign up immediately. Also whoever responds to the reviews is very condescending to whoever calls them out, even when the consumer has a reason to.

  8. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

This app deserves trash time, throw away the 🔑. I hate this app, it serves no purpose just a bunch of articles from your “fitness coach “ even if you didn’t sign up for fitness this app does not ask about my lifestyle what type of foods I consume just snap a photo and select an option as to why you ate😂😂 this app didn’t ask for my age, weight, height, nor gender and that speaks volumes especially if they claim to be a fitness app don’t buy the in app purchases

  9. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

have to pay. im not there yet to start paying for a subscription- if you're looking for a free app, this one is not it.

  10. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

It’s not free!!. I genuinely hate this model, I’m not downloading a free app on my phone just for it to make me go through a whole sign up and then tell me it’s a paid subscription.

  11. ★★★★trial charges and refunds

Beware - Virtually impossible to find cost…. So many reviews about the sneaky membership costs. I spent the last half hour looking for “how much this app costs after the 7 day trial”. Take a look for yourself, virtually impossible to find. Any business that isn’t proud to display their costs versus benefits clearly is a business I will have to avoid. Sorry. see typical developer response below, still no reference to membership cost! Developer Response: Thanks for the feedback. As we clearly state in the app description, an Ate membership requires a subscription after the 7-day FREE trial. Not sure how this is deceptive as the whole concept of a free trial is to test drive an app before starting the subscription. The trial and the subscription is managed by Apple as it is with most subscriptions on the App Store. Be more than happy to chat with you to discuss how you think this could be improved, if you reach out to us on one of our support channels.

  12. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

False advertising. This app is not free. You can not use any part of it without paying.

  13. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

No free option. 10 dollars a month to write down what I ate? Lol

  14. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Not good. Terrible app.I tried to sign up for the free subscription, and it accepted my Apple Pay, but it won’t let me use the app. They will likely charge me after the 7 days is up and I couldn’t even use the app to cancel it. It keeps trying to ask me to pay over and over.

  15. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Not flexible enough for easy use. Disappointing

  16. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Now I have to pay?. Ive used this app on and off and have really loved it in the past. Really disappointed now that this app isn’t free anymore, that there’s not even a portion of it that you can do for free. Shame, will be using something else now.

  17. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

No Free Version. I used this app 2 years ago to help with my weight loss goals. I only used the photos to make my meals more exciting, but didn’t use it so much for the calorie counting as I used another app. Disappointed that there’s another even a free version just for photos. There are other apps out there with better food libraries so if I’m going to pay for something, I’d rather pay for one of those.

  18. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Requires subscription. The subscription requirement should be noted when downloaded.

  19. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

No Free Version. I used to use this app off and on for years. It was never really that great but I liked the visual interface and being able to take pictures of my meals. I just logged in to find out that I no longer have access to any of my past data and I have to pay for a subscription. There is no longer any free option. I intensely dislike being forced to pay for a product that has already taken my information. I have deleted the app. Very sorry to lose my data history.

  20. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

No longer free. This was free for years and now requires a subscription even to access your old logs. Deleting this app and moving on to the other free alternatives.

  21. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Subscribe before you try? Hard pass. Maybe give us a taste of what the app does before asking for my credit card. Basic business model rules here.

  22. ★★★★trial charges and refunds

Deceptive. This app isn’t, in any way, free. They’re using a that classically deceptive “free trial” business model. Wherein you can test drive the app for a few days only AFTER adding a payment method.

  23. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

It stinks!. I downloaded the app and I can’t start an account. The only option is to sign in. I’ve deleted the darn thing three times. Turned off my phone and to no avail! I downloaded another food tracking app. I only gave it one star just so I can rate it. Otherwise, it’s zero.

  24. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Paying for App. Ummmm no im not paying $8 just to be able to use this app. I’ve been using this app for more than 3 years and now it starts to charge? Bye bye I’ll go find another app.

  25. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Typical app just want $$. I downloaded this thing and would not let me use it for free without tying to shove a subscription down my throat “get the trial” and all that stuff I wanted to use it for free and see what it was bout but wouldn’t let me terrible stay away

  26. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

don’t download - no free version. this app was great when i could actually use it. now you have to pay a subscription and i cant even see all my past entries. super lame

  27. ★★★★trial charges and refunds

Courtesy Refund. I didn’t get a chance to use the app during the free trial. I really wanted to purchase it but couldn’t remember what the share photos feature looked like and I’d there was a photo limit. I reached out and asked the developer about another free trial for a couple of days because you can’t even open the app after the trial period ends without paying to do so. The developer sent me a link with a coupon and essentially stated that I had to pay. I contemplated and tried investigate if there was a way to do this via Apple instead of paying using my card directly to the developer. Long story short, I ended up accidentally purchasing the app through Apple. I requested a refund when I discovered this and the developer denied it. I work with a dietician and just wanted to make sure this app would meet her requirements. Instead, this happened. I can’t, considering, recommend the app at this time. Profits should be the goal, but not like this. Please approve my refund.

  28. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Not Free Anymore. Been using this app for 9 years and it's gone from free to $8/month all of a sudden. Pathetic and greedy.

  29. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

What happened. What happened to this app? Literally 30 minutes ago I was able to use the app without a subscription! What the heck?!?

  30. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

they removed the free version :/. i used this app for a little over two years and it was so simple to use. yeah there were some features that you wouldn’t be able to use without a subscription, but the main thing (which is just taking photos for a food diary) was free which i really enjoyed! i was able to keep track of what i was eating and it was so simple…. of course there had to be a catch & the catch finally caught up to me. i’m really disappointed that this app is taking away the free version. i cannot afford to fork over 30$/year for me to take photos of my food. i understand that money is necessary to run an app & there’s only so much one can do… but it’s still sad to see it end this way.
