Does not work. Since it became Samsung food (previously whisk) it has been glitchy. Most recently, it will not open ….stating -cannot load data while in background-

  2. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Doesn’t work well on iOS. Works great on android. But iOS has issues with updating the options once things are added to the shopping list. I end up having to correct the list on other devices which has made us start looking for alternatives

  3. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Unteliable. Had an account for a long time. Tried to log in and it says I never existed. Won’t waste my time trying to recreate my list. There are better apps out there.

  4. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Error after error. This app use to be great when it was whisk. Once Samsung took over it started having issues. Now if you try to enter an ingredient with the amount needed, it only remembers the ingredient. If you try to add headers into the instructions, it deletes the header and reorganizes the steps of instructions. I am looking for a new app to use because I am sick of all the issues with this one.

  5. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Can’t trust calculations. After creating a recipe and going back later to edit it the ingredient amounts are missing! Creating an identical recipe with 1/4 cup butter in one and 1/2 cup butter in the other produces exactly the same fat grams. I can’t trust anything this app tells me.

  6. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Terrible update. Ingredients input is unusable now because it doesn’t allow you to save the recipe if you have an “unrecognizable ingredient”. Ingredient input was much better the way it was before—please return it back to how it was. Otherwise loved the app but now it’s getting really irritating to use.

  7. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Used to be a nice app. UPDATE: The response from Samsung Food is that they have no control over the ads. REALLY? They control the app. If this is their response to users’ inability to actually see the directions for the recipes then it is definitely time to be switching to a new app for menu planning and recipe repository. Thanks for letting me know that you can’t actually control your own app for your users. I’ll be transferring my recipes to another app. Lesson learned. PREVIOUS REVIEW: This used to be a nice app but about the same time it changed from being called Whisk to Samsung Food, it became almost unusable. You can still use it IF you have a glass of wine and maybe some herb before cooking. The ads are so large and so obtrusive when you transition to the instruction/direction screen, you cannot read the instructions without repeatedly (every few seconds) closing the ads. I will be looking for a better app now. I used to share and recommend this app…no longer. 2nd update: after backlash that users couldn’t read the instructions because of ads taking all of the screen space, Samsung food made the announcement that it would be ad-free. I cheered and complimented their decision but alas, it was a short lived decision and the obtrusive ads are back. What a shame and waste of a good app

  8. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Obnoxious ads. When I want to look at a recipe very quickly, I cannot because I get obnoxious video popup ads. All popups should be banned. Samsung probably doesn't even care.

  9. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Awful app ads bombard the recipes. I used to love this app. I had and still have so many recipes in the app that I will move to another and better I found. The frustration with Samsung app is when you import a recipe and when you have to leave the app to go to the method or instructions for the recipe you get SO extremely bombarded with pop-up ads that I cannot read the recipe!!! It’s SO EXTREMELY ANNOYING that I can’t justify paying almost $60 a year for this app. I did find another app that I can import recipes to and the method/instructions are in the app so that the cook doesn’t have to leave the app so pop-up’s don’t bombard the user.

  10. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

App won’t open for me. Have been using the app for a while and all of a sudden it won’t open. This has happened before, very frustrating.

  11. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Used to love it. It’s so glitchy lately. I keep having to re-install it or restart my phone, so I’m considering using another app. I’m sure there are others that have similar features. Its a shame because I used to recommend this app to everyone.

  12. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

WAS great before Samsung took over. I used this app for Almost 2 years and it was awesome! It was a great app! Easy to use and read. Now I feel like there is just a bunch of extra stuff. The color pallet when from a lovey green to harsh orange, it’s been crashing and I have been getting pop ups. I’m not sure why they felt the need to change a perfectly good app.

  13. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Great app ruined by ads. This app was fantastic before it became Samsung Food. It has been my go-to app for storing recipes and finding new recipes to try for years, and the ease of adding a recipe from an outside source made it that much better. Since it was branded with the Samsung name, the ads have become more and more overbearing. Now I can barely follow any recipe because of the full page ads that take over every 10-15 seconds. At first I thought it was only the recipes that sent you to an external site, but the same format follows no matter where the recipe is found. I’m constantly stopping to close out a full page ad over and over to the point that I have ruined a few recipes because I lose my place and get frustrated with having to close ads to even see the pages. It’s ridiculous. I’m shopping for a new app that I can actually use and will gladly move all my recipes manually and pay for another app if needed to avoid the travesty that has become Samsung Ads…I mean Food.

  14. ★★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Sync with smart things app. Tried to sync this app for saving recipes and custom meals so I could access them on my food app on my Samsung Refrigerator but no matter how I log in the apps do not sync meal plans or my recipes…

  15. ★★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Measurements are messed up. The app used to organize recipes well. Now, the amounts of ingredients (esp. grams, ounces) do not match the amounts provided on the original recipe website. The weights and amounts are inconsistent to the point that the ingredients tab in the app is useless.

  16. ★★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Used to be so much better!. Having used this app prior to Samsung’s acquisition, I have seen the quality of the user experience deteriorate dramatically. The buttons, menus, and actions are incredibly inconsistent throughout the core app features (lists, plan, etc.). Used to be a 5 star app, now I can barely recommend.

  17. ★★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Used to be good. Just lately, not so. Down far too often to be useful. Particularly if, like me, you use the mall planner. It's rendered pointless if you can't access your meal planner to see what you planned to cook. Grrrr!!

  18. ★★★★★ads disrupt the experience

App is almost unusable. What’s with the full screen ads?. This app used to be great. I used it for almost everything I wanted to try and found lots of great recipes to use. But now every recipe sends you to an external site that is full of pop-up ads and full screen ads that you can’t minimize or get away from. So you can’t even view the recipes. It’s almost unusable because you have to spend so much time trying to get around the ads and the pop-ups, that by the time you get to the recipe and actually start working on it, you’ve spent 3-4 minutes trying to figure out how to get past the ads because they won’t relent.

  19. ★★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Used to love it. I used to love this app, but there is an insane amount of ads that pop up and I can’t ever read recipe instructions without constant pop-ups when I have to scroll. PLEASE make this stop! It didn’t used to be like this! Go back to the way it was.

  20. ★★★★★cross-device sync is unreliable

Sync problems. The app would be great but it doesn’t sync the shared lists properly. Sometimes I’m all done shopping and then it refreshes and loads more items and I have to go back to the store.

  21. ★★★★★crashes, freezes and errors

No Tech Support. The samsungfood app. Has stopped working. Once i tap on the tile for the app the screen change to show only the large coffee cup. Even after several minutes it does not open. I exited then app, and went to the app store to check and see if there was an update needed. I found no update. I tried to open the app from the app store. No change in performance. It was not opening. I cannot access my recipes - this is frustrating. Please advise. I tried the link for “report a problem, which was at the bottom of the description of the app on the app store; unfortunately, it was trying to direct me to open the app. The same was the case with the link for the developer. How short sighted - customers can’t reach you to tell you about issues with the app.

  22. ★★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

What happened?. There must have been an update to this app recently. The update completely wiped all of my saved recipes and everything I’ve created over the time I’ve had it. I used to love this app so this is disheartening.

  23. ★★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Great app, horrible ads. The app itself is a dream. Extremely well made. It’s everything you’ll want for meal planning and collating good recipes. When I started using this app it was free with no advertising. Then they added relatively unobtrusive ads. Fine. Still a good app and the ads weren’t predatory or annoying. Now the app overlays full screen video ads over the top of the recipe instructions. I know this is the app because I have started searching (separately, in Chrome) for the original location of the recipe online and then visiting the page directly. No ads. Or at least not the incredibly annoying whole-page video ads which I wrestle to successfully close (tiny X). This change probably results in more ad revenue for this app, but OMG is it horribly unfriendly for users. It makes me prone to not using at all. I’d say this, basically: either do the paid option and avoid the ads, or find another option. If the app makers correct this then I’ll update my review.

  24. ★★★★★ads disrupt the experience

Ad monopolized. Since Samsung bought this app it has slowly went down hill. I use to plan weekly meals and use it while cooking. It has gradually gotten worse until now when I use it I get videos and ads popping up all the time. Unusable. Being nice giving it two stars.

  25. ★★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

No way to sort by recipes that use up your ingredient list. I paid the subscription for this app mainly for one thing: the fact it can look for recipes that use up your ingredients and “reduce waste”. However, whenever I search for recipes with my ingredient list, it doesn’t put the recipes first that actually use up your ingredients!! It’s random and only every now and then while scrolling will I find a recipe that actually uses up stuff in my list. This is the most irritating thing about this app. Please put recipes first that use up your food, especially since I am paying for this feature. If there is already a way to do this, it’s not very clear how to do so.

  26. ★★★★★mixed experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Some features are great but one aspect is frustrating.. I use this app a lot to save my recipes. I’m a foodie who loves to bake and try new things. I like that you can save the links and put them in your own categories. You can also write notes about what you changed, substituted, add, cooking time, etc. The most frustrating feature is the ingredients list. It says you can just write your ingredients in a paragraph (I use commas between ingredients) and then it will create the list. It doesn’t work! At all! You have to click add ingredient & put in each one. It gets tedious esp when you should just copy a list & add. On top of that, if you put any qualifier to an ingredient, ie Unsalted, finely chopped, Ancho chili, it will drop it completely & sometimes it will also drop the quantity. I’ve learned to just use Step 1 as my ingredient list. Then I can paste or type the entire list at once. If I find a better app, I’ll switch but so far this is adequate.

  27. ★★★★★mixed experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Plz fix health score bug. There’s a bug that’s preventing new saved recipes from generating a health score. Please fix. FYI, I’m still mad about y’all dumping the Whisk brand & replacing it with the ugly, self serving “Samsung Food”. You had such a great app on your hands!!

  28. ★★★★★mixed experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Review. I hate the fact that I get ads now all because I won’t pay. I was with this for years and never had an ad issue up until now.

  29. ★★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Decent. Cant do much without the paying option popping up - no pregnancy option

  30. ★★★★★ads disrupt the experience

Was good but something is wrong.. I loved this app and recommended it to anyone that I met but recently it’s been a nightmare to seek out the recipes because of the adds. I’ll go to start cooking something and the moment I put my finger on my screen and add pops up and goes into full screen to hide the recipe. It doesn’t matter if I exit out of the ad or watch the entire thing as soon as I pick up my finger and put it down IMMEDIATELY I get another one. I understand getting ads on a free app because that’s how you keep it “free” but it is literally any time I put my finger on my screen which is a ton considering how much you scroll back and forth between measurements and directions. It didn’t USED to do this to me so idk if the update made that happen or not, but it’s to the point where I’m seeking out new apps if it doesn’t ease off which is sad because I LOVED this app.
