   Please Update!. This used to be my go-to app for Japanese. I loved all the features it had and I used lists for organizing words I had learned. Now the app won’t even load without crashing. Please update the app as I really loved it and I’m bummed I can’t use it anymore!

   Something’s wrong. I like this app, but something’s gone wrong. When I scroll down the list of definitions, the word turns to an English word. The app hasn’t changed in four years; maybe it needs an update. I removed and reinstalled it, but it’s still doing it. Now I can’t get to a definition if it’s not towards the top of the list, which makes the app useless.

   Ipad app no longer lets me draw kanji. I’ve had this app for more than 5 years, and apart from a few bugs in different versions, it worked pretty well. But for some reason, the app no longer allows me to draw kanji in my ipad: I either have to type in the word phonetically (which I might not know how to—that’s why I need the app!!!), or go by stroke order. The fact that you could draw kanji was the whole reason I got this app in the first place; why would they take that feature away?

   Not useful. The only way to translate anything is to copy and paste something, but most often I can’t even use it because the source is a picture or on a physical piece of paper.

   Needs more sample sentences for verbs, adjective, and nouns. Every time I find a new word I go to this app and I mostly find the word meaning and how it’s translated in English. I need more than than just its meaning and translation, I want to know how the words are used in a common sentence or phrases. Sure there are some words that contains samples but most don’t have it. Please improve into giving more samples or put samples on words that needs it. I found several verbs and adverbs but most don’t contain any sample sentences because it only has its meaning and how it’s translated into English.

   Crashes upon backup, search broken. Search by radical severely broken for years now, and with the most recent update crashes when attempting to backup. It’s a very nice app in many respects, and it is free so one hesitates to be appear overly critical, but a broken search function is no small defect, nor is an inability to backup when your backup consists of 20,000+ items.

    Removed SKIP lookup. This was once the best Japanese dictionary for iPhone, but several versions back, the developer decided to remove SKIP lookup for kanji. Unfortunately that brought the app's value much lower for me. My reviews are pretty consistent around this. It wouldn't be difficult to add the feature back, so I'm holding out on positive reviews until then.

    Is this in the definition?. According to this app, the Japanese word for “station boxed lunches” えまべん also means “a variety of sexual positions”. I’ve even a screenshot of this error. Nevertheless, according to Apple’s built-in dictionary and Microsoft’s Bing translator, this is not true. I’m quiet concerned for the app’s future errors. And I’ve rated one star for now, unless more definitions are fixed.

    Seriously 5/5. This app is almost perfect, but I want to draw attention to an issue and a mission feature. It no longer displays the number of examples for anything, and I wish I could search example sentences like Tangorin. Please fix.

    Text reader needs work. I’m going to repeat my past review, but with only 1 star this time because the problem never gets fixed, and it seems so obvious: I often use it (very practically and regularly) to copy and paste in Japanese text from mails & messages to read/study. The text recognization for numbers leads to crazy (or non existent) entries. A message leading off with 12月 and much more text will only have 12 translated. Great. And even simple hiragana particles like は show up as their kanji equivalent. In other words, groups of words are not given any context, everything is treated like a random string of kanji. If they could fix this it would be so helpful, and easily 5 stars.

    Speech function doesn’t work. Speech function just doesn’t work anymore. It used to sound robotic, but now, it gives a warning that it’ll sound robotic, but just doesn’t work; I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling again and it STILL doesn’t work. The other functions are great, but without the speech, it feels incomplete. I’ve contacted support and changed my live speech voice settings, and that didn’t help, so I can’t speak to if changing that improved the voice, because now I hear nothing.

    Important First Hand Experience. I have used this app for years. I go to Japan often, I have family there. Now. What happens is I say something, and they don’t know what it is. I show them, but chigau(it’s not right). This happened so many times that I have come to not trust the app. I feel like I have wasted a lot of time learning the wrong things.

    Please fix the search by drawing function!. Been using this app for almost 5 years. Recently (probably with iOS 15 update) the search (by drawing with you figure) stopped working. No matter how accurately you draw the kanji, it never brings up the correct results. It used to work so well before, why did it suddenly stop? Please fix this, searching obscure kanji through radicals is just as annoying. This has been slowing down my studies significantly.

    The scroll is not working. In some sections of reference tab, the scroll does not work in iPhone 6, when I scroll the app crashes and I’ve to re open it and when I scroll again it crashes again. Fix this issue

This app is absolutely amazing I don’t need to go into detail BUT I AM HAVING TROUBLE using the SPEACH function the app would be so perfect if i could hear how come words could be pronounced.     Can’t use the Speak feature. I turned on the feature text to speech my iPhone 8, and I tried highlighting text messages and it worked. However, it just didn’t work on this app, and I couldn’t give feedback through the app because “my iphone is not configured” to do so. Very confused and help is needed. This is a good app and I want to use it.

    Ruined by the update. This used to be the best app for Japanese. I used it both my personal studies and for professional projects. Now that I updated it not only is the system of searching by radicals complete broken (i.e. getting 6 stoke characters labeled under 25 stroke character) bit what’s even worse is that the option to look up complex related characters from a characters specific reference page. Seriously this program has been so dumbed down with the new update that I am considering never using again. Please go back to the original format that worked perfectly fine!

    Would Rate Higher But…. My one complaint is the same as every other app. The radicals don’t come with the japanese names for them, and this one you can’t review the radicals only kanji related to the radicals themselves. Knowing the actual japanese terms for the radicals, and how to say them, would be useful when it comes to learning the language fully. The way items are “learned” also seems a bit counter intuitive, because it means you simply answered correctly two days in a row then reviews don’t really appear for them (at least so far). You can choose to continue studying to self review of course. The other issue I have is that when choosing a section to learn, it chooses from all over the section without any logic. There are subsections, but somehow those subsections are kind of ignored in the process of RNG for learning. Nitpicks overall, but things I wish were implemented before the developers stopped updating it three years ago. Your mileage may vary.
