   GPS UTM. Toms Trails was possibly the best simple app I had on my phone. I used it a lot to tell people where I was (I spend half of my life travelling abroad). I wrote more than once to the developer and told him how fab the app was. Then one day it stopped working (after an iOS update). I had to download the new app (GPS UTM) and to put it bluntly I am more than disappointed: :( I had to pay to use the share option; :( Gone are the degrees and decimal minutes in the position format; :( Gone is the ability to edit your message (which allowed me to format the message to a customised message for my family and friends and to add North and South for those who don’t know that stuff); I don’t know what’s gone wrong at Toms Trails but I can’t recommend this app (like I used to) until the best features are reinstated.

   Pretty good product. The 8 digit grid is pretty accurate. The .99 cent cost for full features is pretty weak, considering all you get is an azimuth read out.

    Simple and reliable. I do wish the swipe side to side feature that Allowed you to switch between two different formats, such as UTM and lat long, was still in operation.

    Nice basic coordinate app. Does what I wanted: give UTM coordinates for paper maps. Also seems to work well in airplane mode, so good battery life might be possible in wilderness. It would be nice if coordinates could be copied to the clipboard.

    Works, may require some setting-up. Initially, the UTM grids were off. I had to play with the datum settings for North America (selected NAD27). One I made the change and verified on my map, it worked perfectly. Used it to plot a small land nav training course and it was spot on. Great app when you don’t have access to a commercial unit. Bottom line, make sure you verify the grid accuracy before using.

    Simple and to the point for emergencies. While this is not a 5 star app, if you're in a bind, and need help fast, having to scroll through menus and settings will stress you out, and that's where simplicity such as this is a big help. I would say this is your best bet in an emergency, or if you just need to see your location quickly and easily, without having to reach for glasses. If, like me, you use higher diopter readers. It's just the essentials... UTM coordinates, compass bearing and send. With a quick option to switch to Google for communicating with Nav challenged recipients. If I need to communicate my whereabouts in a hurry, this will be my go to. It’s great for check-ins in Search and Rescue. Now if someone would only offer this in a GPS watch, without the entire contents of the kitchen in unwanted "features", I would be in happy. Update: Since the latest update, the app shows the all 6 coordinate digits at the same, now smaller, font size, Garmin GPS readout style. Whether you like this or not depends on individual preferences and application. Personally the old mapping convention (first 2 digits small, 4 large) worked better for me. I found it very useful for navigating to a waypoint with ease, watching the coordinates click up or down on the move without needing reading glasses.

    Great app. Always loved this app. It just functions simply and well. Use it mainly for measuring elevation while walking but also great as an emergency coordinate finder.

    Essential for French Alps mountain safety. France uses a peculiar grid reference system called UTM. If you ever need to call in mountain rescue, you need to know your UTM grid ref - they won’t help you with lat/long! So this app is a life saver if you spend time in the mountains.

    Simple and does it well. I have been looking for just this lately. I just want to know the UTM coordinates for my location and everything else is just far too convoluted. Thanks. One suggestion can you make a setting that would average the readings until you stop it and it would hold the readings?
