   Bad information overwhelming an otherwise great user experience. It seems like their product ingredients and allergens is very often incorrect, making their good user experience useless. I’ve reported (with no response) numerous errors resulting in false positives, where the app says a product is unsafe for a list of allergens, based on ingredients the product does not have, whether as reported on the packaging, product web site, or even the ingredients SkinSAFE lists. I’d love to hear from the product team about why there are so many apparent errors, with a commitment to update the app, and happy to replace this review if I’m mistaken.

   100 to a product containing TALC?!!!. Did this app not get the memo that most all talc contains asbestos?!!!! I am in shock they would give a 100 rating to something containing it! Look it up if you don't agree! Deleting this app and not believing a word it says cause clearly they are not up to date on harmful ingredients in makeup products! UPDATE your app or do some more research!

   Love the concept, hate the app. I’ve had this app for around 4.5 years now and I absolutely love the concept and have a direct medical need to use it frequently and with ALL my products, however the app sucks so bad. It logs you out all the time, then even when I save my passwords it tells me it’s wrong, when I try to reset my password I go through the whole process then go back to log in and it says “request cancelled” ?? Then I try to input my new password and it’s “incorrect”. Nothing works to get back into this app. And when I’m lucky enough to get in, I set my biometrics to use my face but it tells me it’s expired and I have to log back in and then logs me out again. It’s incredibly frustrating.

   💲All they want is MONEY ❗️. I have had various unexplained rashes and itchy patches since I was a teen. I am almost 70 now! Told to try numerous tactics to try and alleviate them. Everything from OTC dandruff ‘remedies’ to various prescriptions along the way. I finally had a ALLERGY PATCH TEST done by a dermatologist and it identified 4 skin ingredients that irritate my skin. The dermatologist recommended this website for checking products’ ingredients so I can avoid my allergies. WONDERFUL! Finally on the right track, or so I thought. I was scanning multiple products at the store and the many things that I already owned. Only had been on this site for about 2 weeks when a pop up said that I had reached their limit for the number of scans, and that I was now limited to 1scan per day☹️ Of course I was ‘encouraged’ of get the premium version of the app, for a fee. Now, a few days later, I can’t even view the products that I have already scanned without ‘upgrading’ to the paid version of the app❗️. 😡 The Dermatologist did not mention that the “FREE” app only works for a small amount of time. Nor does the App Store site provide any sort of information except “IN APP PURCHASES”. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS APP❗️❗️(Especially now that it’s holding my already scanned product searches hostage unless I pay up)

   Lacks any value in free mode. I just want a basic app to help me compare a small list of allergies to products. That’s not available without a subscription. I might consider paying for value-add if the base app wasn’t bait.

   Customer service non-existent. I’ve attempted to contact them three times for a code. No response. It’s been a month and a half.

   Don’t buy premium. This would be a fantastic app for people with skin allergies, but unfortunately you have to buy premium to see what specific ingredients the product contains that you may be allergic too, at least I think that’s how it works. I wouldn’t know because I purchased premium but nothing has changed as far as what I could see when I had the free version and it still prompts me to purchase premium when I try to go deeper into the app. And don’t bother with CS, they will reply once and then forget you ever existed without resolving the problem.

   Really bad info. Be very careful with this. The information is very limited and does not educate users about the negative aspects of ingredients. There are so many missing capabilities that it certainly shouldn’t cost what the app developer charges. Simple examples is to let the user scan the ingredients on the product label and provide an immediate analysis of the known ingredients and flag those that are unknown. Elementary solution, it’s not there. Just an overpriced, poorly designed app.

    Celiac disease persons night. I downloaded this app to see if my products I’m using have gluten in them. I have celiac disease so I’m very allergic to gluten. I trusted this app and turns out that it doesn’t accurately tell you whether products are gluten-free or not. I highly suggest you doing your own research as I have done because this app absolutely is lying and misleading. seems to me that these are just opinion based reviews instead of science based reviews or accurate safety of products. if I could give zero stars, I would. Response to skinsafes response: let me get this straight, your solution is for me to pay more for your app that isn’t accurate? Your app says Monday hair care products are all gluten-free. Your app also specifically is advertised as helping people with allergies. Cross-contamination was never the issue. I understand those risks. The Monday hair care product that I used said wheat protein on the front of it and your app said differently. Do yourself a favor and do not use this app!!!

    Inaccurate info, glitchy. If you look on their website vs. the app, the information is different, rendering it worthless if you have severe skin allergies like I do. Also, if I hadn’t double-checked their work, I would’ve continued to have a horrible reaction because I trusted their site. It’s embarrassing that this comes from the Mayo Clinic and there are potentially life-threatening discrepancies on here. I even have the paid version! Also, right now you can’t scroll down in the app, at all! Worthless.

    App touch sensitivity. Can’t navigate through products. Touch sensitivity is too high and does not allow for scrolling through lists of products. Please update app with either a scroll bar or lower touch sensitivity for scrolling rather than selecting the item. In addition, when browsing categories I cannot choose a refined category. Example: I pick sunscreen, then cannot choose any of the five further categories(lips, facial, body, etc).

    So buggy I can’t believe I wasted $50. This app is so buggy. I can’t believe no longer log in. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app. I’ve updated it and reached out to customer service and they just keep telling me to delete and reinstall again. Don’t waste your money.

    Yuck. I used this when it was web based. It was very helpful. I really need to find clean products, but I deleted this app after 5 minutes. I don’t want to stand and scan products. I want to search a database and have choices appear. It’s not intuitive. It needs less of an ad and more actual instructions under “how does this work”. I have no patience for this.

    Used to work well. This app has gone downhill. It used to work but now the explore page is empty, no products show up when searching, and the home page is empty. It’s like it’s been gutted out. What a disappointment.

    Horrible glitches. Every time I search, it will not show any results. I try closing and restarting the app and nothing helps. Very few items are listed and it takes FOREVER to find out if your submission is finished. This could be an AMAZING resource for those of us with horrible skin allergies!! Mayo Clinic, DO BETTER! Especially since I had to pay for non-existent content! I won’t purchase again!

    Do not pay for a subscription!!. Was great until I paid for the subscription. The free version worked fine but I decided to see what the subscription was like. Now that I upgraded, it will not let me turn on the Safe For Me filter and nothing will load when I search. This feels like such a scam and I am incredibly disappointed.

    App not working for months. App is not functional at all. Hasn’t worked in months, just blank. I paid for the subscription, so I’m rather annoyed about this.

    Code and search not working, support vanished after I paid. I’m not a person who writes 1 star reviews lightly, but I have been pretty baffled by how frustrating this experience ended up being. I had high hopes for this site, but I’ve had issues since day 1. The “personal allergy code” doesn’t actually appear to be truly personalized (at least not for my allergies). I was told my code (for sodium benzoate) automatically included fragrances but could be modified to remove the extra things it was filtering out and I said yes, I ONLY needed that ingredient filtered. Some stuff is now marked safe but there are still a wide variety of ingredients that have nothing to do with my allergies being marked not safe for me?? (Agave? Salicylic acid? Neither of these are alternate forms of sodium benzoate!) On top of that, search DOES NOT WORK. I can go directly to a product page (via a google search) and see that a product is “safe for me” yet it won’t appear in my search results on the site or in the category it belongs to. Between this and all the extra ingredients being excluded from my results, the site is basically useless. I can barely find any products. During my free trial, support was responsive (though I had to send a few messages multiple times) and I was told my issues were being looked into. A week later (once my free trial ended) I asked for an update and got no reply. Another week passed, and another. It has now been AN ENTIRE MONTH with no reply, despite my sending multiple messages using the contact form, the support email, even commenting on the IG page. It feels like they just ghosted me once my card was charged. I’ve paid for a year’s sub for a service I apparently can’t use and can’t get ANY help with. I tried to be patient and understanding, but this is ridiculous. At this point I’ve just assumed my issues won’t be fixed and tried asking for a refund on my subscription, but of course can’t get a reply on that either. At this point I honestly wonder if I’ve just been scammed. Or at the very least, something is preventing them from receiving and/or replying to customer emails, which is just totally unacceptable for a paid service, especially when customers encounter significant bugs from the start. It has been stressful enough trying to replace most of the products I own due to a severe allergy, and this app that was supposed to make it easier instead caused additional stress. I wanted so badly for this to work out but as-is I do not recommend it.

    Stopped working. I relied on this and it completely stopped working. My dermatologist switched from ACDS to this. It worked fine for awhile, but now I can’t search for anything, apply filters and no products are showing up at all. I even updated, but nothing was fixed. I also don’t understand the subscription model, seems ways too pricey. Monthly subscription really add up.

    I used to love this app. I used to love this app and I would recommend it to everyone! I even got my dermatologist to recommend it to other patients. But now it’s pretty terrible. Features that used to be free are now behind a subscription paywall. I understand that the app needs to make money, but you should add new features instead of screwing over loyal users. Additionally, it is now IMPOSSIBLE to search for products. I tried to search for my shampoo, Biolage Ultra Hydrosource, a well known and popular brand, and the app found zero results in the search. I know for a fact that this product is in the SkinSafe database because I have looked up its ingredients on the app before. Unfortunately, given the many negative changes to this app, I will probably stop using it and stop recommending it to other people.

    Monetized now and crappy. This used to be free and it would tell you why something wasn’t safe for you for free, you could search or request to add as many products as you needed to search in a month for free (and they’d get back to you within 2-3 days). It was the BEST app for checking things against my allergies. Now, like everything, they want you to subscribe. There’s no option for a lifetime plan, just stupid subscription services in order to see which ingredients are unsafe for you in a product (helpful since some ingredients can go by dozens of different names), and to check more than 3 items they don’t have listed per month. I am SOOOO sick of subscription culture and people trying to monetize things on a monthly basis, but when it’s healthcare-related, it’s especially disgusting/despicable.

    AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. If I could give this app a zero I would. I have had this app for over three months and I still can’t use it because the customer service is so terrible. I’ve sent 8 emails. The only way you can get in touch with somebody is to fill out their submittal form, it’s the only time I get a response. My last email I told them I want a refund, she told me she hasn’t received any of my emails. I’m responding to THEIR emails! I asked if there was a different email to respond to. No response. If ur doctor does not subscribe to their app basically it’s useless. You need a special code, but they say that they can add your allergies in if your dr isn’t affiliated. That’s all I need. But after three months of dealing with this, I just want my money back.

    They are now paywalling your health. The app was already clunky before and now they are charging you every month just to see what ingredient is not safe for you. A feature that was previously free and how they created their initial user base in the first place. Dermatologists need to start recommending different apps.

    deceptive. at startup, the app tries to trick you into signing up for a subscription. sure, there's a small 'x' on the corner. still feels dirty. any worthwhile feature is behind a paywall, even while in "trial period". the point of a trial period is to give the consumer the ability to gauge whether the product is worth their money.

    Updated app to find I don’t have the same features. I recently updated the application and noticed that a lot of the features I depended upon are now behind a paywall. These features used to be free! I'm curious about the reason for this change as I feel the Mayo Clinic should not promote this to patients anymore. I also visited the website and they are promoting the Mayo Clinic as a developer for the pay subscription. I will be talking to my dermatologist and the Mayo Clinic. This is simply bait and switch or the application/Mayo Clinic should have been upfront about the fact that what they were recommending to patients was only a promotional offer.

    Premium subscription model makes it useless. I just switched to an iPhone and re-downloaded this app, only to find that the iOS version has this subscription model, which renders the app absolutely useless. You literally can’t see the allergen markers AT ALL. I’m not paying a subscription fee for something I previously used for free. This is ridiculous. It’s also way too expensive for what it is and what you’re offering. I’m so done with this app
