   Constant Crashes. Since the June update, the app crashes constantly for me on my iPhone 16 Pro. It is unusable. I switched over to a different off-road software and it’s working better.

   Ads built into map!. Toyota sponsored ads in the app. They show up as marked trails. It gets in the way of using the map! Totally unacceptable.

   Tutorial?. No instructions. No way to find maps. I tried to get instructions off the Gaia website, 404 error. Was looking for an app for doing the triple crown of long trails but I’d be better with paper maps than an app with high ratings that doesn’t have maps and download to the app doesn’t work.

   Bought by Outside and now way overpriced.. This was the best mapping option back when you could buy a lifetime (not really) membership. Now it’s its $60 a year! Just get AllTrails for $36 a year or better yet find something free.

   Attempting to charge everyday. Lost access to my account for a while and it kept charging me and was unable to cancel and once direct deposit hit the company immediately took the cash.. not cool.

    So sad. Bumping your price by 50% is totally unacceptable to me. Gaia is one of the few apps I’ve been willing to pay a significant amount for, due to its functionality. That being said, $59.90/year is unacceptable. Looks like corporate mergers have destroyed another valuable thing. After years of using Gaia, I’m really sad to have to use something else, but it looks like that’s where we’re at. Bye. PS: developer responses like “write to our support team” in response to this sort of complaint, is telling. Additionally, data mining paid users is super lame. Gaia and Outside Inc will not get any money from me.

    Too Expensive. Paywalling features is understandable, to a point, but kneecapping the app and then incessantly popping up upgrade prompts is unforgivable. Combined with the price hike to $60/yr? Get wrecked.

    Not recommended. Prior to being purchased by Outside Inc., Gaia was amazing. The support was top-notch and the mapping layer options were the best. Now, unfortunately, the support is lacking and the removal of the National Geographic Maps layer has really degraded the overall quality of Gaia GPS. The base map selections are not even remotely as close in quality to the National Geographic maps. And the satellite imagery layers are quite terrible as well. The only reason Gaia still exists is because they do not have any real competition.

    Features not working offline … where you need it. Snap to trail doesn’t work when you’re offline. Despite downloading all maps and layers, wouldn’t work. Incredibly frustrating in backcountry. From reading Reddit this has been an issue for years and Gaia refuses to fix. Just tested it at home and wouldn’t work either. Most experienced backpackers recommending Caltopo instead.

    Off Trail in the High Sierra’s. I was backpacking in the high sierras and got off trail. That moment you hear about being lost and turned around… never thought it’d happen to me. Well it did. However, thankfully I turned on my Gaia maps and was able to get back on trail, even in the dense tree cover. I use multiple mapping apps but Gaia is one I can always count on.

    Updates change what you knew. Gaia has gotten so bad! Do not buy it! Updates remove or change functionality, automatically publish your private tracks, and require purchases when you’ve already purchased items. It takes customer service FOREVER to restore maps and layers you’ve already bought. Find another app.

    A shadow of its former self. Since Outside purchased Gaia, its quality has steadily gone down hill. Bugs have remained unfixed for years while they keep introducing new features to extract more money out of their users. It’s such a shame; Gaia used to be the pinnacle of outdoor tracking and planning apps.

    Lost my hike after tracking me. I paid for the premium version and when I hiked today using the app it completely lost the record of my hike. Why bother with this app ??

    Lost my recorded tracks, deverloper is no help. I used to like the Gaia app, and I had recorded a lot of tracks. Then, the did some sort of "upgrade" the locked me out of the app and the tracks I had recorded on my phone. Despite at least half a dozen attempts to contact support, I never got a response. So my tracks are just lost. Pitiful piece of #%*%# app. That was a year or two ago. Apparently, nothing has changed. Protect your data, choose a different GPS app.

    Nope, sorry Gaia…. Been a Gaia user for a long time but ever since they were bought, price has continually increased and privacy has become an issue. If I wanted to subscribe to an online magazine, I would. Just like everything else, this has become profit over people and there are too many comparable products out there to feed this machine any longer. It’s just not that good.

    Crashing continuously. I have been using this app for years and i never had problems. Now clicking anywhere on the map results in the app crashing. Several back-and-forth with customer support led to nowhere. I have 10+ years of data in this app. The last communication our customer support said that the engineering team is aware of a bug and they’re working on a resolution, but didn’t provide an ETA or a work around. I am so terribly disappointed.

    Great for navigating; terrible privacy. My go to app for planning and navigating (in addition to paper maps) but gets 1 star because during an update a while ago it defaulted my tracks to publicly viewable. Just realized that I can go into settings and change that but until the default is private, it gets 1 star from me.

    Disappointed. Gaia gps has never really intuitive to use but for the occasional user the free version was usable. Now that Outside has taken over it’s gotten much worse. Previously there were several “free” maps available but now you are limited to one. If I’m going to have to pay I will get a really good app like onX. So so disappointed 😩

    Once great, now a disaster steals your data and won’t load off-line. I’ve used this app for many years, and when it sold out to Outdoor, it went downhill. All of your tracks are published to their open and public map system unless you go through multiple layers to disable that “feature”. So much for hiking to your favorite secret fishing spot. It really struggles to load without cellular service. A total failure for off-grid exploration. I historically used this app to record all of my back-country or world wide travel, but the app is basically unusable except with perfect cell coverage. I miss the old Gaia.

    Now a Sad App. Gaia was once top notch, now it’s just sad since being acquired by Outside. Offline map downloading and map data management is amateurish at best. The app is buggy.

    Screen too busy. There's too much unnecessary stuff on the screen while I'm trying to navigate. The HUGE free trial button takes up half the bottom. And the record function takes up the entire top. The former should not be on the screen at all, and the latter should be optional and able to hide from main screen. Nothing like draining my battery during an ultra by accidentally hitting that record button. Almost makes me want to delete the app. Also when I try to zoom in to see the name of the trail I'm on, everything gets larger but the letters stay tiny! The more I use it, the less I like it. But I have all my race routes saved on it, so I've a vested interest in keeping it. If it's a plot to make me buy the premium version, it's making me not even want to use the app.

    Used to be…. This app used to be great! A lot of useful features were free. Now that it has been “sold”, it sucks! Useful features are hidden behind a paywall now and even if you do pay, it’s buggy and useless! DO NOT USE THIS APP!
