   Apple Notes Clone. This is basically an Apple Notes clone that you have to pay to use. The utter absurdity of this would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

   Used to really like this. I used to really like this app but the new liquid glass update looks terrible and feels awful to use. There's no good way to properly customize the look or the settings so that it doesn't take you back to the library page every single time and it's really solidifying my contemplating jumping ship as its about the only reason I was considering hanging on to apple

   No thank u... I did the trial and just didn’t get to use it enough in the 7 days to know I really don’t like it. It’s not user friendly and I totally forgot to cancel. Now I got charged the 39.99 for something I can’t use. My fault but I desperately need a refund!😫 The app frustrates me more than helps.

   Not for a Formatted Output. I understand the premise of “distraction free” writing. On the other hand, at some point you still need to print or publish a document, no matter the complexity. However, Ulysses obscures or makes it frustratingly lengthy to perform any kind of formatting. For example, there is no right-click contextual menu allowing you to format a character, or a selection, or a sheet. If it is possible, then you must go to the Markup menu, or select from one or two seemingly random options at the foot of the sheet. While I see the overall idea of what the app is trying to do, it needlessly complicates any kind of normal expectation when it comes to producing a final output. The integrated look of the editor where it confusingly commingles regular text and an approximation of the rendered output is of no real help and only complicates the display. Either leave the text as straight text with the markdown characters embedded or produce a rendered view in another window or simply switch between the two. There are better options available that are easier to use, less ambiguous interfaces, and much less expensive. Try Highland or Typora as more intuitive options.

   A Paid App Disguised as Free. I don’t know why some companies think it’s a good move to hide the fact this is a paid subscription, but you cannot use the app despite it being ‘free’. It is locked in ‘read only’ mode so you can only view their sales pitches while prompting you to either pick a free trial or pay to edit files. If you want to pay gate content, at least sell the app upfront.

   Horrible App. This is the most ridiculous app I’ve ever seen. Absolutely useless if you have to produce a formatted document. Seriously this is a waste of time and effort. Avoid at all cost!

   Deceptive Pricing. Shows in app purchases but that’s not the case you can’t use the app unless you start a 7 day trial which isn’t long enough to evaluate something like this, or pay $39.99 a year. Couldn’t tell you if this is a functional app or not.

    Prevents Restart While Selling Subscriptions. So, I was trying for so long to understand why I couldn’t restart my Mac, and why it wouldn’t go to sleep. Then I discovered that Ulysses was open and had a blocking modal dialog that was offering me an honestly pretty good offer that I totally would have taken, but I needed to restart my Mac, not be opening my wallet in this state. So I try closing Ulysses, but I can’t. I have to respond to the offer: do I want to open my wallet on a system with a compromised state or do I want to reject this offer? Well, I guess I had to reject the offer, but Not So Fast! Why would I reject that offer, you ask? Well, I try to tell you that there was a technical problem with the offer, that even if I had wanted to accept it I could not because my system was not in a place where I _could_ accept it. But you didn’t supply any way for me to do that, any way to respond. You said, email our support. Really? You asked me a question but didn’t want the answer, apparently. Would this be the last time this happened? No. Apparently Ulysses starts on every system start and makes _some_ offer every time now. That’s great and kind, but I really need it to not be blocking administrative things on my machine, such as restart when there are no documents open. It is for this reason that I conclude that the app must not have been designed very well and did not undergo basic usability testing, so it gets 1 star. I was considering subscribing, but now I am not. It’s back to Notes.app for me. I guess nothing can really beat the simplicity of system apps, at least you know they undergo testing.

    Terrible installation experience. Was eager to try Ulysses and had a terrible installer experience from App Store. The app hung, never completed, so I rebooted. On reboot it opened up but was acting flaky. So I completely removed the app and reinstalled, now none of the ‘getting started’ docs that were there on the original install, are present. This app is unlikely to make it beyond the 7 day trial on my machine.

    Not Free. Looks like Apple Notes App. Title says it all. I downloaded this app, excited to try it out. Its not free and you can't you any functions at all. You can see the app. I saw it and it looks exactly like the apple Notes App. And it looks like it has some markdown capability. $40.00 a year

    Not worth it. I have been a journalist for big city newspapers for more than 50 years. It doesn't deliver. I want to replace Word. This is not it. Now I have to worry about it charging me every year because there is no easy way to cancel the subscription. They discourage that.

    paywall. got this app and immediately there was a paywall shoved in my face. you have to pay in order to use basic writing tools rather than just reading, and a vast majority of people who download this app are probably looking to write, as it is literally displayed in the app store as a "writing app". immediately no.

    Insane bug, unable to subscribe.. I trialed Ulysses last year. I enjoyed it but didn’t renew for other reasons. I’m now coming back to it and wanted to subscribe, except I’m completely unable to. When I try to purchase, it prompts me to start a free trial but then I get a notification that it’s not available for my account. That’s fine, but there’s no option for continuing to payment and subscribing. Like whaaat?! Yall don’t want my money?

    Can’t copy and paste any more. Ever since I Updated the new iOS on that phone, I can no longer highlight a section and copy and cut and paste on my phone. It’s completely annoying. Also, I can’t even select a large section anymore. It will drop off part of the highlighted section at the top or bottom. This app has been amazing until now. It’s almost useles.

    Basic functionality for a subscription.. I bought Ulysses many years ago for a one-time payment of $30. Unfortunately, the company behind change for a subscription model forcing original customers onto this model by force. After trying the app recently, I’ve noticed how basic its functions are compared to other writing apps. To be honest, the app's high price tag doesn’t reflect its functionality. Most apps with the same functions as Ulysses offer a single payment, without a subscription. And for users like me, who paid full price for an app that was never advertised as a subscription, it is really disappointing. I do hope that the company behind Ulysses provides more functions than similar apps to justify a subscription model.

    Sayonara Ulysses. Writing this review/feedback breaks my heart. I love(d) this application. Its feel, its look, its functionality. It’s been the tool I’ve been using for all my permanent and semi-permanent writing. I loved it. But, then... About a week ago, working on a (n admittedly long, about 250 pages?) document, doing anything with the sidebar or window view would lock up the application. Numerous restarts and Safe Boot incantations haven’t helped. Re-downloading and re-installing the app from the Mac App Store, no help. TWICE I have reached out to support, detailing the problem, with crash logs attached. Not even an acknowledgement of the support requests. Nada. Zip. So, this relationship isn’t working, Ulysses. Time to say goodbye. Hoping I can keep the application running long enough to export all my writing to .md files - which won’t be a problem in the future if iA Writer ever craps out on me in a similar way. I have a new appreciation for why so many fellow writers balk at having their writing stored in a proprietary database. Proceed with caution, all.

    Absolutely horrible.. I got the yearly subscription because I wanted a place to write my book and organize. This was so confusing to use and it was all over the place and not good. This app is terrible don’t waste your money.

    Unable to cancel before 7-day trial is up. I downloaded the app but to use it even for the free seven days, I had to agree to pay $39+ per year, except there’s no way to stop this. I’ve gone to the Apple Store and deleted the app, but it looks like I’ll have to pay for it regardless. Not cool. There must be a way to stop the payment. The app does not do what I want it to do.

    No functionality without paying.. I downloaded the app thinking there would be some basic functionality for free with additional paid features. This is not the case. The free version is strictly "look but don't touch" as it says in the opening screen. I don't know how long the trial period is or if it requires a credit card, I didn't get that far. I couldn't even use the interface without jumping through more hoops.
