   Disappointing. Only works about 1/3 of the time. I usually get an error message. Switched to another recipe organizer and haven't run into any issues with that one.

   Doesn’t work. It stops being able to upload recipes after a very brief period from sources like Instagram. The app is useless if you have to add the recipe manually versus scan and upload. I am so disappointed! It was great while it worked the first couple days.

   Sneaky practices at work here. Finally when I got used to this app and really enjoyed using it, I’m hit with a pop-up that basically tells me “You have to subscribe to continue using this app” with a bunch of subscription options. The pricing is fairly cheap, but had I of know this was a subscription based app when I first downloaded it, I would’ve never downloaded it in the first place. I’m so sick of the most simple apps being subscriptions. Everything’s gotta be a subscription.

   It doesn’t work. I could import only a recipe. It doesn’t recognize any of the recipes I stored on my Instagram account. Useless for me unfortunately. I will go back to ReciMe.

   Import function not operational. I downloaded this because the one time fee was nice instead of subscription base, but it can’t import recipes from social media or web browser. Seems broken and if you happen to get it to import it’s the article, the full article and not the recipe. I’d try the free trial before jumping in.

   Paid app disguised as free. As a few other reviews have stated the fact that this is a paid app with a 30-day trial is buried on the app download page. No pop ups in app stating this until the 30-day trial is over and you can no longer use the app without paying. Slimy marketing tactic by the developer which has not been addressed even though they are aware of the issue.

   Disgusted. I am so furious, I have been using this app for about two months. I wouldn’t say I love the app but it met the minimum requirement of allowing my sisters and I to share recipes with each other in a relatively easy and accessible way. All the sudden, as of today, we’re getting a pop up to pay for a subscription to continue to use it. There was no mention of a subscription when we signed up or that we would eventually need one to continue to use the app. We thought, maybe we reached the maximum number of “free” recipes. So we deleted some… NOPE! Now our recipes are deleted AND we can’t add more because it’s requiring a subscription. THANKS A LOT. Maybe warn your users you’re switching to a subscription to continue to use your app. All of us are so furious, we will no longer be using the app and will find a new (and hopefully better) way to share recipes with each other.

    Doesn’t import well. I downloaded several recipe organizers to try and this is the one that has had the most problems. I tried to import from url 3 recipes from different sites and every one said a recipe couldn’t be found or was blocked from import (Paprika and Recipe Keeper had no problem with any of them). The 4th and 5th url imports worked, so I hesitate to say it’s user error. I tried importing from photo and it was definitely more time consuming and clunky than others. This app has great reviews all over, but it doesn’t appear to be for me.

    Subscription terms unclear. You have to dig for the fact that to use this app after 30 days you need a subscription, the price for which is buried. So it’s a good app with lots of potential but you are going to be disappointed to learn - after adding many recipes- that the pricing is far more than more developed and capable competing apps.

    Import didn’t add details. The first recipe I imported was from instagram. It didn’t have the ingredients or directions in the caption and so it showed up blank in the Umami app. When I imported the same recipe into Recime app, it took the ingredients and instructions from the audio of the video and added the text automatically. Needless to say I’ve decided to go with Recime instead, even if it’s a bit more expensive because it just has better features that actually do what I need it to do.

    Pretty good but a bit behind Paprika still. Pretty good app. Has a nice modern UI and mostly works well. The one issue that makes it not a Paprika replacement is that when shopping if you check off items they still show up on the list until you do “clear checked”. If you have many items to shop for this is pretty annoying since your list is cluttered with stuff you’ve already bought and otherwise you need two extra taps for each purchase.

    Only Paid Option Available Now. I do like this app, but I would’ve liked to know before downloading that it was actually a paid app with a tiny window to trial the app’s features. No upload capability without paid services, which would’ve been fine had not all of the app reviews mentioned how amazing it was that this app was free 😅 Wish the trial period could’ve been longer bc I don’t use recipe apps everyday, so the trial period closed before I got to try it much.

    Loving this app. I love how easy it is to add and organize recipes! My one complaint is the grocery list. The only options for sorting are by aisle, by recipe or ungrouped. I need to be able to put the groceries in a custom order to match my grocery store. It’s really frustrating that I can’t. If I could, this would be 5 stars!

    Almost Perfect. Love the lifetime membership and quick recipe conversions. My one wish is that the app would work in the landscape orientation when cooking so it’d be easier to look at on a tablet or iPad. Otherwise, it’s great!

    Good App, Great Customer Service. I researched recipe apps and this one came highly recommended for its import feature not only for URLs but also social media apps/sites. Unfortunately with the ever changing app environment, I am finding that not all social media sites allow you to import the recipes as easily as the app use to be able to. Great news is that Jeff, the owner, has been incredibly responsive to all of my emails. For now, I just need to spend a little more time ensuring my recipes are imported correctly…while not ideal, Jeff is working on updating the app for easy of use. When the import feature does work…it works flawlessly and the app is very simple to use. It has great features that brings a lot of value add. If you are like me and like to customize recipes you find online, this app easily lets you edit recipes as you see fit. I hope Umami sticks around for a long time.

    Really good recipe app wish NYT export was more reliable. The recipe app is great. It’s quite good for managing your own recipes alongside others. I use NYT a lot as a source of recipes and sharing from NYT to umami fails 9/10 times which is pretty frustrating. I’m working around it, otherwise the app is great

    So good! minor tweaks and it would be *perfect*. I’ve been using Umami for almost a year and I’m somewhat evangelical about it. I love being able to access recipes on any device, the import from photo function works really well, and importing from a url has been flawless. I’ve been able to digitize my cookbook collection, and I can’t tell you how valuable it is to be able to see recipes from every source (print, family recipes, and from online sources) in one place. I also love using the app while I’m cooking, especially on the iPad! Overall very very pleased :) Minor tweaks that I think would make this app perfect: - the ability to select a “cover” photo for the cookbooks (it’s just the most recent recipe pic right now…I’ve been adding dummy recipes with the cover I want but I hate using a workaround when this seems simple enough to implement) - a “ratings” category. I have a lot of recipes I haven’t tried yet, and I’d love to be able to rate them as I try them. There’s a notes section, but I would love to see this be a separate section so that I could search recipes based on rating. - the tagging system is a little strange? Tags are created for each book individually, but then you can search your entire collection using tags. So if you’re not careful to use the exact same tags each time for each book, you could have slight variations in tags that may prevent all the results you’d like to see from appearing. It also causes some redundancy in tags that annoys me (like if I don’t remember I used “veg mains” instead of “veg main” or “vegetarian entree.”) there needs to be an option to have a selection of tags that apply to every book that can then be chosen from instead of needing to type in each tag fresh each time.

    Almost perfect. I love this app and bought the lifetime subscription after Samsung bought Whisk (which was the best). I wish Umami did a few more things that Whisk could do: -I used Whisk because it would automatically calculate nutrition facts based on ingredients, Umami does not do this (but you can import facts) -I REALLY wish I could drag and drop recipes on the meal plan to rearrange -the web allows you to manage your recipes and view/add to your meal plan but doesn’t let you rearrange meals on your plan -I’d love to have Alexa add to my grocery list like Whisk did once upon a time

    Great!. Great app and just what I was looking for. Only 4 stars because I wish you could see the whole photo uploaded instead of a cropped view and that you could upload more than three pics at a time and rearrange them after uploading. Mine upload out of order and I don’t see a way to fix it so that’s kind of annoying. Otherwise love the functionality and hopefully someday the photo control will be improved.

    Amazing app + feature request. Hi, I really like this app and use it daily for sharing recipes and grocery lists with my partner. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature that allows to move checked items from one list to another. This will make it easier to create a list that serves as a food inventory since once food is bought it can be checked off the grocery list and easily be added to the pantry list and viceversa when the pantry food is used up. In general I was wondering if adding features that would allow you to keep track of your current items is possible. Other features could include a ‘best by date’ that items can be sorted by. Thanks!

    Best I’ve found. Absolutely love this app. It basically made everything so much simpler in my daily life that it’s wild. Features and being able to import recipes are great but I even started adding simple things like hotdog night because it’s makes planning so simple. I bought the lifetime plan and have no regrets. Keep up the great work!!

    Amazing app!. Great app! Super helpful for managing recipes. I also like the groceries list imported from recipes, and I can also choose what ingredients to import in. Hopefully there will be a Safari extension for MacOS in the future for occasions that I find via Safari. I also am grateful for the affordable subscription prices, as a college student with limited income. Keep up the great work!
