A journal with a one-entry-per-day format. Users keep coming back to it for a decade. Keyword search finds entries from any year. Backup only happens once a month: without a manual backup before a phone reset, you can lose several weeks of entries.

What people use it for

People who want to journal every day without complex structure and do not need to sync entries across different services.

What reviews praise

  • The one-entry-per-date format keeps the habit going: you can see every day you missed.
  • Full-text search finds entries from any year instantly. iCloud sync has worked for years without data loss for most users.

What reviews complain about

  • Backup only runs once a month: if your phone resets without a manual backup, you can lose weeks of entries.
  • The interface is small and has not been updated for modern screens.
  • You cannot insert a photo directly into the body of an entry.

What users experience

I did the latest update and all my notes got deleted from the last SEVEN years. If you have backups on in the app you can restore from there. BUT they only backup the first of every month. So I had lost one month of (important) entries.
I don't write reviews usually but—in my opinion, this app deserves some public commendation. TEN YEARS I've been using this app now; I just checked. (Strangely, to the month! So call this my 'decade anniversary' review.) I always just used it simply and relied on it.
I've been using this app since I had an iphone 4! I love it, I can search certain words and it will show me every entry that contained that word. It even does throwbacks, shows you what you wrote on the same day a year ago.
I haven't kept a regular journal in years before MWD. Now it's simple and delightful to write about the good, not-so-good, inspiring and trying events in my life. It's truly a wonderful app.
