The best free open-source password manager for the price-to-features ratio, but recent updates introduced serious bugs: the master password sometimes refuses to work, TOTP behind a paywall feels greedy, and cross-device sync is slow.

What people use it for
Technically minded users who want a solid free manager and can tolerate occasional bugs.
What reviews praise
Completely free with no ads, open-source, works on all platforms, no upsell pressure.
What reviews complain about
Master password periodically fails for no apparent reason, TOTP is paid-only, slow sync, a bug shows phantom TOTP codes on entries that don't have one.
What users experience
4 excerpts from the breakdown. These are individual cases, not a verdict on all users.
I like using Bitwarden, but sometimes it's buggy on picking out the password for websites and it's very slow to sync between different devices
Master password sometimes flat out fails. App will not accept it but same pass on desktop works, or desktop doesn't but website does. Website frequently also goes into a login loop on mobile and is correct but will not proceed to the actual vault.
It doesn't make sense you would charge to use a feature so common such as 2FA.
Normally pretty good password manager. Lately it's had some weird bugs. For example, it is showing TOTP codes for entries that don't have one, even the recent fix didn't change this.
