   Unusable after 3 days on trail. The app is fine for planning while you have internet, but BEWARE of using it as your sole source for navigation on trail. My experience is it just stops working after about 3 days. It opens then freezes. The fix is to reinstall which isn’t going to happen easily on a thru hike. I know. I had backups for navigation and luckily I was in the Sierras where water is plentiful. Be safe out there and DO NOT DEPEND ON THIS APP AS A NAVIGATION APP it will stop working just when you need it.

   Stranded on Eagle Rock Loop. I assumed I could access the downloaded map when I had no signal, but evidently not. Am grateful my buddy had Garmin app. Please let me know if the fine print said I do not have access when there is not a signal & I will update my rating.

   Worthless app. This app sucks, waste of money. I bought the PA NCT map and it didn’t work well in areas with limited service.

   Epic trail failure. I’ve used farout for several years now on a few trails. In July I hiked the wonderland trail and my app wouldn’t respond, the screen would freeze, and it wouldn’t record my route. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, same problem. Luckily my hiking partner also had the app and was having no issues. I meant to contact farout back then and ask for a refund for that trail since it wasn’t cheap and was totally useless. I forgot. Now I’m preparing to hike another section of the Appalachian Trail and the app is having the same issue. My screen is frozen and there’s nothing that I can do about it. Not only that, but FarOut has not even made it easy for you to contact Support. There are a bunch of tutorial and frequently ask questions but no way it seems to contact the developer to get help directly. This is obviously case in point why you can’t rely on technology alone and should always have a backup. I’ve loved this app for years but this glitch that seems impossible to fix is ruining it. Please make support easier to contact.

   Expensive, update sucks. Update sucks. Difficult to navigate. Too expensive. Profiting off of community sourced, public land data is super slimy. Use a free app like opentrails

   Not user friendly.. Not sure how it even works. Type in great Smokey mountains national park and nothing comes up. If I’m combining trails or making my own route how does it work.

    Grand Canyon Whitewater. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS APP! It’s a complete waste of money. It will provide you with the maps but does not update the current GPS location. I just spent the last 25 days on the river laughing at how useless this app is. CalTopo worked, AllTrails worked, FarOut Grand Canyon Whitewater did not. Total garbage.

    buckeye trail issue. map works real good but rest is unreliable for example there is issue on water location when i contact support the reject to help because my ios was not supported. When i tested the app on ios supported by farout the issue was there , i guess they prefer to reject help instead to do sone work to investigate! dangerous to on true-hike with unreliable water source location as usual tech company sale something, get paid, and make support optional

    Now a Worthless App. I originally got the FarOut app (previously Guthook when it was a good app) to hike the PCT. Worked well, despite being convoluted with poor instructions. Now I’m getting ready to hike the Arizona Trail, so I purchased the map and, Lo and behold, I no longer have the PCT maps nor do I have the Arizona Trail?!? Clicking “Restore purchases” gives me the reply of “No previous purchases”?!? This app is completely worthless, it is a rip-off and scam!! Don’t download or make the mistake of purchasing anything. I’m going back to AllTrails - definitely more reliable! 👎👎

    Poor resolution offline. The whole point of an app like this is to have good quality off-line maps when cell service is not available. User’s can manage space on their own device… we don’t need help. Only allow allowing poor quality, low resolution downloads of off-line maps is ridiculous.

    Full of Errors, can purchase but can view maps. Both my wife and I were able to purchase and were charged for a map but we were never able to open the map. We are using an iPhone 12 and iPhone 14. The error message we got ‘process app store recipe’

    Not letting me use the features. I’m continually getting an error that says Invalid Function: “processAppStoreReceipt.” Doesn’t matter which trail/area, or that I’ve logged out and back in and redownloaded the app. Simply wonderful when I want to use the app and the maps it provides but I can’t get access to anything.

    Can’t even create an account. Got stuck at the very first step when trying to create an account with a “normalize for key is not defined” error, whatever that means… Hardly inspires confidence

    App not working anymore. I have relied on this app for years for my long distance hikes but it no longer works. Constant freezing and unable to load maps/comments. Really disappointed. Looks like other users have had the same issues for at least a couple weeks and there is still no fix. Ya’ll should revert to the last working version of the app while you fix the issues with the update.

    Comments not showing up anymore. This app was great but now all of the comments are gone. The comments are one of the best features. Seems like the app has gone downhill.

    With new comment filter all comments disappeared. With the new update all comments on my PCT far out are gone. Really stupid since we are relying on the comments especially for water, etc.

    Failed us when we needed it most.. On a four day backpacking trip this app failed after the first. I had my route paid for in downloaded as well as every map underlay option downloaded prior to leaving for the trip. Unfortunately, on day two it stopped working properly. I could open the application and pan around the map. But anytime I activated the GPS or interacted with the map it would freeze up. At that point it was totally unusable. Restarting the app and restarting the phone did not fix the problem. After returning to Wi-Fi and cell service, it still was broken. Do not rely on this application as your only way finding method!!!

    app arbitrarily blocks access. Do not spend money on this app! They arbitrarily block access to purchased content by preventing you from logging in by falsely claiming your password is incorrect. I changed my password 7 times, and each time the app continued to falsely claim the password was incorrect. I spent $75 on a trail guide that I cannot access now.

    Terrible UX. I really wanted this to be easy to understand and use and it is neither. Feels like it’s easier to navigate the Appalachian trail with a walnut shell and a wish than this thing.

    App freezes. Was hiking the PCT when far out just started freezing up; even updated the app, to no avail. Love the app when it works, but counting on it during a backpack trip is now open to question. Fix this problem!
