   No longer works after update. I was using the app daily, and then they updated it and now I can’t access features like the reviews/quizzes. I emailed their support a couple of days ago and haven’t heard back.

   1 like and others dislikes (better app recommend). I like that it gives you steps but I don't like that you have to pay just to learn and if anyone anyone else doesn't want to pay every month I recommend Teuida you can use it for free and your actually learning Korean, Spanish, Japanese and ect with real people

   Started good but got bad. I have been using it to learn Japanese. At first it was decent but in basic N5 it gives a ton of random words and kanji I didn't learn and does a terrible job at teaching Japanese with literally a brief description and tons of near impossible questions with info the app hasn't taught you yet.

   App is not free. The app makes it seem like you can use it for free but you cannot. I already know some Japanese but wanted to switch to it to try it out. It gave me about 5 minutes of lessons before it’s asking me for money. Those lessons didn’t teach me anything or give me a taste of how the app will go. I don’t want to pay 10 dollars a month and I read in the comments that the lifetime subscription is not the same as the monthly so I’m not going to risk it. You must pay to learn anything.

   Just make the app a pay app. Can’t do more than two 2 minute lessons before being asked to upgrade to premium for a price. Also it kept telling me that I was saying SUSHI wrong. Sushi.

   Used this app years ago. I remember when the lessons used to be for free. Now it’s only three free lessons for the language I wish to learn. It’s a good app, and explains how to pronounce the letters well, but I’m too broke to pay for this aha.

    Great structured lessons, horrible practice. I’ve been using Bunpo probably since it first launched on the App Store. I’ve paid for the lifetime membership and it’s part of the reason I’ve stuck around for so long. The app was a fantastic way to learn grammar and nuances for Japanese and I definitely improved my understanding of the language thanks to them. Unfortunately, one issue they have never solved is the abysmal practice portion of the app. Routinely, Bunpo will have you review lessons to maintain your knowledge. Unfortunately, the way these are structured are horrible. When I open the app I will sometimes see a review of 10 items jump to 70. And sometimes, there will be 50 more lessons to complete after that same lessons. Furthermore, it’s not unusual to answer the same problem multiple times in a lesson; I had a problem get presented to me 7 times in row. That’s not helpful and I’m not learning anything. And this is a huge problem because continual review is how you learn a language. I’ve sent an email about the poor review system but no changes have been made. I cannot in good faith recommend anyone to use this app unless you want to learn just the lessons they teach and ignore the practice lessons. But even in that regard I would recommend a different app or sticking to a structured textbook.

    Great until they added leagues. I really enjoy using Bunpo as a way to learn, however like other apps I dislike the forced addition of leagues and XP as a way to learn. It is irrelevant to me as I do not wish to compete or compare my progress to others. Just let me focus on my own progress without the unnecessary need to compete or compare to others. It should at bare minimum be an opt in feature and not something that everyone should be doing as it may not be a feature that is relevant to a person’s learning experience.

    Ruined. Bunpo used to be better than its competitors in the sense that its language learning model wasn’t marketed as a competitive game to artificially help motivate learners. The developers threw that out the window in an attempt to fit in with everyone else. Nobody asked for leagues and EXP. I’m learning French for MYSELF, not to seek validation from fake people. The app wasn’t broken, and now it is. I’ll find a different medium to learn. One that doesn’t distract me from what really matters.

    Disappointed to see an AI tutor in platinum. I was recommended this app because I was looking for something AI free, but am so sad to see a “revolutionary AI tutor” in the platinum version. Really sad how many apps are relying on ai slop to try to teach the nuances of a language when really there is no replacement for practice with human beings or human tutors.

    Why bother pretending there is a free version for trial. It gives the impression there is a free version to try out but it’s only about 10 min of lessons. So no ability to really give it a chance to see if you like it. No way I’m committing to paying for something I can’t test out in a meaningful way. Waste of my time.

    everything you have to pay for.. was trying to learn Japanese. i got through three lessons on hiragana. then it was locked and said i need to pay to do more. waited a day and it said i needed to pay still.

    Kanji, Hiragana, and Furigana too tiny to read!. I’m on a 8 day Japanese language streak. I would love to do more lessons per day but the font is just too tiny to read. Some of the kanji is just a blur on the page. I sent an email with screenshots to the developer but no response yet.

    Not actually free. The app seems nice, but I was only able to do 3 lessons before being gated off. If I had known it was a paid app, I would not have downloaded it at all. It's 9.99$ per month or 79.99$ per year.

    Not Ready. It's just not ready yet. Plain and simple. The dev team should have waited until all basic features were ready before putting this out. I bought on ipad and my progress isn't synced with other platforms. In my mind this is baseline functionality. I reached out to them about it and they admitted that this is the case. I don't think an app that isn't ready for public use should be charging as if it is. Smaller nit, it only has landscape view, which is crazy, because the content takes up like 20% of the screen max. This also makes it kind of a pain to use, and is also a pretty low hanging fruit feature imo. So yeah, until it's actually fully ready for use, 1 star.

    Cannot go past lesson 3. It costs hella money to learn with this app after they advertise themselves as better than Duolingo. Honestly a waste of money you’re better off just using Duo cause it’s formatted the same. Although I wouldn’t know any differences since I had to pay money to learn more than 3 lessons on the alphabet. Not even the full alphabet.

    Fun at first but after you complete 3/4 in chapter one it’s no longer free which is sad I loved it. As I said in the title I am currently learning Spanish and I was hoping even without paying but you can keep learning but sadly that is not the case. After doing 3 of 4 in nouns and articles you have to pay for the rest of the courses which I don’t want to do so sadly I will have to delete the app because it’s no longer free

    No free version. They say you can do it without purchasing Bunpo plus, but whenever I try to do the fourth lesson it asks me to purchase Bunpo plus. When I click on the x to get off the screen, it brings me back to the lesson choice screen. So basically it looks like you can only do 3 lessons. You can replay those lessons, but that is it.

    What was I expecting. I was so excited after finally convincing my mom that I could get this app. I’m currently trying to study Japanese and Spanish due to my future trip to Japan and my Puerto Rican religion. Everything was going fine so far as I learned a couple of lessons but was soon as a couple lessons had gone by, what do I get hit with? You guessed it, you have to pay in order to continue using the app. I thought this app was supposed to be pay friendly but boy was I wrong, no hate towards the app

    paywalls. i liked it at first and was enjoying the hiragana lesson, until i got to the fourth one and discovered i couldn’t continue unless i paid. this app doesn't even teach you the alphabet unless you pay :/ very disappointed

    Restrictive if using free. I got this app to learn Japanese, it's fun to use until I found out I could only get 2 lessons. 2 lessons is not enough to get me to think about a subscription because I won't know how affective it will be until i've tried it for a while. It feels very restrictive and it would be much better if it was this many lessons a day or ads to get a lesson like how Busuu does.
