An editorial reading of the saved reviews

A single-teacher meditation path with Zen master Henry Shukman, no library to choose from. The app guides users along a fixed path step by step. Experienced practitioners from Vipassana, TM, and Waking Up call it the best thing they've tried.

What people use it for

Experienced meditators who need a real teacher, not a playlist. Ideal for Zen practitioners and anyone tired of a 'meditation menu.'

What reviews praise

  • One path, no paralysis of choice.
  • Henry's voice is warm, precise, and exceptional.
  • The structure builds: each session builds on the previous one.

What reviews complain about

  • Not suitable for complete beginners as the first sessions assume basic familiarity with practice.
  • Less content than Calm or Headspace.
  • The strict linearity frustrates those who want to choose.

What users experience

3 excerpts from the breakdown. These are individual cases, not a verdict on all users.

I have used many of the major apps like Waking Up, HeadSpace, and Happier and while I've loved all those platforms and in many ways they introduced me to so many parts of the practice, what I found myself yearning for was more directed guidance from a single teacher.
I came across The Way in a similar fashion to the other meditation apps I've leveraged previously. In each case in the past, the initial scaffolding was helpful in keeping me on the intended path, but I lost motivation when it ran out. The Way keeps delivering.
I have come to absolutely love this app. What immediately struck me was how it guided me step by step through physical senses. I've tried to meditate solo on and off for 15 years but always drifted. Here there's just one path forward.
