An editorial reading of the saved reviews

The app runs the Seestar smart telescope and gets praised for making quality shots easy for any beginner, an intuitive interface, and an alpaca driver for advanced users to connect other software. What breaks it is the forced firmware update in the middle of an observing session in the cold, it eats time and battery and cannot be postponed. There are also in-app ads to buy a Seestar shown to Seestar owners, and the version 3 update that broke tracking, frame stacking and WiFi.

What reviews praise

Quality shots right out of the box for a beginner, very simple and intuitive interface, running several S50 and S30 telescopes at once, alpaca driver for advanced users, easy to learn

What reviews complain about

Forced firmware update in the middle of observing that eats time and battery and cannot be postponed, in-app ads to buy a Seestar shown to Seestar owners, version 3 broke tracking, frame stacking and WiFi, no way to enter RA and Dec coordinates to go to an object, no landscape orientation on iPad

What users experience

2 excerpts from the breakdown. These are individual cases, not a verdict on all users.

nothing like standing in the cold ready to go, only to be FORCED to do a firmware update. Why not have the option to update later??? Now you have to stand in the cold and drain battery doing a firmware update cutting into imaging time and length of imaging time!

Ver 3.0 needed more testing before release. Wasted an evening with relatives excited to see the SeeStar work trying to get past an erroneous voice prompt to upgrade the already upgraded firmware. Very embarrassing situation and teen kids unable to have a good first experience with Astronomy.
