Seestar

authentic rating

The app runs the Seestar smart telescope and gets praised for making quality shots easy for any beginner, an intuitive interface, and an alpaca driver for advanced users to connect other software. What breaks it is the forced firmware update in the middle of an observing session in the cold, it eats time and battery and cannot be postponed. There are also in-app ads to buy a Seestar shown to Seestar owners, and the version 3 update that broke tracking, frame stacking and WiFi.

About the rating

Reviews are full of concrete use: shooting Mercury from a balcony, photometry of variable stars and AGN, three S50 and S30 telescopes in three locations, the alpaca driver. The gap of 4.16 versus 3.16 is explained by real anger at forced firmware updates in the field, not by templated five star reviews.
